It was mentioned long ago by someone who insisted that a Life From the Loam build was going to be the correct direction for the deck to head in. They never shared their list, but claimed they did very well with it, then stopped posting. Personally, I don't know how well it'd do
I guess that's good enough. I saw another person at my LGS a few days ago playing Crucible, and the card advantage combined with the Ghost Quarter / Inventors' Fair recursion was delicious.I know Loam can't be found with Stirrings/Fair, and it doesn't provide card advantage like Crucible, but it still makes the Ghost Quarter loop possible, which is what i really want.

I don't remember the last time I've seen Emmy in a real tron deck (encountered her as a 2 of in a really bad GR eldrazitron a couple weeks ago but that deck was awful), so Pyxis isn't super important (against Mindslaver tron it is though, because Academy Ruins + Platinum Angel). Thoughtseize and Surgical extraction is key. If you can rip away an ulamog or karn then surgical them that's big. I always bring in a third copy of Surgical against tron, to hit the land base as well.

Standard: GR Pummeler
Modern: Mono-Red Control, Lantern Control, Eldrazi Taxes, Skred Infect
Pauper: Affinity
EDH: Gaddock Teeg Kithkin Tribal, Meren
Legacy: 8 Rack, Omnitell (Both in progress)
I was watching his top 8 tron game.
He was one lucky man. Like inq, tz, tz, lantern double rock in first 3 turns type thing.
Lost legacy is really good vs tron and scapeshift, and you can bring it in vs control for cryptics/snaps, k commands etc.
I'm in awe at how he won. I watched a lot of his games through the night. Things like drawing bridge last possible moment, milling with codex before bell, and
Mill with codex, response draw, response mill with bell. Mill, draw, both players forget the codex mill.
He is by no means a bad player, but this was very much a case of gods smiling on him. He had no business beating tron, but he did it again and again
Regardless of what anyone says you have to draw like a god to win any GP, no matter how skilled you are.

Semi-retired Lantern Player. I try to get out to play every once in awhile!
I don't think i've ever seen so much mainboard graveyard hate in my life.
As a side note: How does Life from the Loam work as a budget Crucible of Worlds replacement? I'm looking to pick one up later today and don't want to waste the ten bucks.
I might be stating the obvious, but you'd likely only be able to take one land on cast, since you can't play multiple lands at a time. Were you thinking of using it as a budget replacement for Crucible?

Yup, i was! I bought a copy but haven't been able to test it too well.

Takahashi played his land and passed it back, only to see Oks cap off his absurd first turn with a second land and an Ensnaring Bridge"

Thanks for dredging up that embarrassing moment mate. Yeah I got pretty lucky in that Tron match up. I was pretty much resolved to finishing my run in the quarterfinals when I realized I had drawn the Tron guy. I'm a little miffed though that you seem to reckon I misplayed that match besides the missed mill trigger.
For those asking, both games I won were by establishing an early lantern soft lock and focusing on keeping him off threats rather than the lands. That's not what you always have to do but that's how it worked out in this match. TBH i should have lost game 3 but he misplayed by playing his worldbreaker too early which ave me the out of drawing into a bridge.
Also Lost Legacy was pure theory for me before the weekend and a last minute addition. The main spec was that most matchups I would want to bring in a 3rd extraction against the legacy would be as good or better (except grixis, but i don't usually board the 3 extraction in anyhow). The Legacy though would also be a reasonable answer the the bane of my existence, ancient grudge.
I didn't keep any notes besides my score pad but I will try and get a small report together of my run if anyone is interested.
That other list that finished 16th looks like the work of a mad genius. I didn't get a chance to see it in action for obvious reasons but if the designer is on hear I'd be keen to hear from them on their card choices.
Congratulations! I can't be a critic, I have plenty video evidence of making play mistakes of my own I know that I'm absolutely interested in any play report that you could muster up, but I'm sure that lots of games probably kind of a blur together.

Hi mindcandy congratulations on your win . Of course any report you could give us would definitely be helpful, reasons for card choices are also nice hehe

I played in the SCG Modern Classic this weekend and also tried out Lost Legacy as a last minute addition. I didn't do so great in the tournament, but I really loved Lost Legacy. There were a lot of match-ups where I found myself bringing it in.
MindCandy, Congrats on the win! I'm curious to get your thoughts on the matchups you played, your card choices, and lantern's place in the current metagame. You just won a GP...stop rolling in your money and share some knowledge!
Life from the loam is more a different crucible than a worse crucible. The upside is you can mill into it fearlessly and have it available, and it can generate enough ghost quarters to accomplish the same effects. However, it can't be tutored or ruined (although it self recurs) and more importantly it forces you to skip your draws to keep up the gq spam, meaning you can't flip yourself into important reactive spells at the same time. I'd rather have crucible than lftl most of the time for the added safety, but the dredge can potentially flip you into more mill rocks faster and find you ruins more easily if you aren't worried about needing to extract/ decay/ thoughtseize or something or you can afford to leave bridge on one or two.
Oh, no, no, no.
I don't think you misplayed those games at all. You drew like a God, and played it out fine.
I was referring to your feature match against eldrazi tron. (The game where you needled the endbringer over the dude you can stack with counters then remove for damage, with.. 3-4? Mill rocks in play at the time) not saying that's a mistake, though it seemed like an odd choice and I'd love to hear feedback on it. Feels like you had about 3 turns to draw a second needle or abrupt or die.
In those games I saw some really weird mill choices. Like both empty hand, you have a tz on top, you double mill with shredders, then use your last bell (which presumably you would have used anyway since you don't want the tz). That's also the game where you both missed a codex mill.
Please please tell me how those games went from your perspective.
Haha! I dont remember that at all. I was so tired by that point. Ill try and write something up after work tonight but my memory may not be good enough to recall why i made those mills.
This is going to soubd stupid but what is 'tz' that you're referring to?

What's everyone's thoughts on lost legacy? Ive noticed a few people playing it but I can't remember if it's been discussed recently.
