Thoughts on 20 lands vs 21? Obviously this deck is mana hungry, needing to cast 5 mana spells, but we do have the lotus blooms and prisms for that
Speaking of a card that stinks as a topdeck: Lotus Bloom. I can definitely envision a version of this deck that foregoes this card for a more consistent mana source, but I believe more work will need to be done. Right now it is necessary in the common build of this archetype
Bottled Cloister seems like trash. Why not Phyrexian Arena for the extra draw?

20-21 lands it doesn't matter, you're only going to cast the combo off of Artifact mana (in almost every game) anyway. Yes, we are mana hungry. Too mana hungry to get there through land drops alone. If we seriously wanted to make our land drop every turn for the first 6 turns we would have to run upwards of 27+ lands (I'm sure there's some Frank Karsten math out there to show this). So, since you have to hit off artifact mana anyway, run 20 lands so that you can fill your deck with the tools you need to assemble and protect the combo and win. If you're really hot on something like Dreadship Reef I could see, maybe, running it as a 21st land in place of a 4th Phyrexian Unlife, but I think it's a bad time to be running less than 4 unlifes in modern.
Lotus Bloom may suck as a top deck but it is essential to the deck's consistent Turn 4 win. Sure, you can combo without it (In fact, our only Turn 3 win is through Pentad Prism and Simian Spirit Guide), but it makes the deck more consistent, which is the key to any combo deck's success.
My advice is to take a stock list and play it--and I mean really play the everloving crap out of it--before tinkering too much. Thousands of players, playing tens of thousands of matches, got us here. The stock lists are brutally efficient at executing our game plan.
And, personally, nothing feels quite as good as suspending a T1 Lotus Bloom. It's like an assassin's calling card. You might as well put a 4-turn hour glass on the table to let the opponent know to really cherish these last few moments they have left.
I don't think this deck will ever move away from Lotus Bloom.
Hey guys, just wondering what everyone body is feeling on the optimal sideboard configuration with the current meta. I have the usual fair in the side myself, but especially with the (re)rise of Death's Shadow, I'm thinking of adding Wall of Shards back in, at least as a 2-of.
Normally I'm not a fan of the wall but against DS jund it seems especially effective on paper. Has anyone gotten to see how well it does in actual games? DS sould side out their removal game 2 so it seems like it could work.
Anyone use grave titan in this match? Seems like it wouldn't work well despite normally being good vs GBx. I really do like the creature out of SB tactic, is there any other creature threat?
i dont like wall, its to specific. just this and the good burn mu. (but havnt played this ne mu yet, only old death zoo without all the discard)
vs death zoo and other decks i am thinking if sun elspeth isnt a good idea. but i am noz sure about all the pro and cons of tizan vs elspeth ( hadnt enough time to work all arguments out and wicj mu who will realy come in)
Nicholas Byrd just popped up on cam on scg at 11-2. He is running a fully foiled deck but he has expedition fetches and shocks, I've never seen steam vents in an Ad Nauseam list before.
I'd love to get hold of his list if anyone can source it?

this one is a year old but the deck doesn't change much i'd guess.

Thoughts on Lingering Souls in the sideboard? Like Ethereal Haze, it is great vs infect. But unlike Haze, it also has applications vs grindy discard decks and makes you less soft to Liliana.
I also think Elspeth Sun's Champion is strong vs Death Shadow. All of their creatures will die to her -, but even just her + should be enough to hold them off.

I feel that the usual fog affects ad nauseam usually runs should be enough along with leylines of sanctity to stop their 8 hand disruption cards.
Deaths Shadow shouldn't be a huge issue for Ad Nauseam, I'd treat it as a more oppressive Jund variant.
However, Elspeth was in a couple of Ad Nauseam lists on mtgo but my slot would be Grave Titan.
Lingering Souls may as well be another fog imo *edit: However, lingering souls for killing liliana would be cool except Tarfires and Bolts probably wouldn't be sided out so I doubt it would kill her*

Man that was great I'm happy to see Ad Nauseam take it. I wasn't expecting to see the Teachings / Peer suite before I saw the decklist but those Timely Reinforcements game 2 were epic.

Is the choice of darkness over Ethereal Haze strictly because of the mana base? I feel like i'm missing something large, Efro ran holy day instead of Ethereal Haze as well.

Edit: looking at efro's list he top 64'd Vancouver with he only has 2x spoils. Anyone else drop this down? Also isn't ethereal haze strictly better then holy day? List here http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/deck-of-the-day-modern-ad-nauseam/

I think Laboratory Maniac loses a lot of value in the main if you run peer through depths/mystical teachings over spoils.

Isn't Ethereal Haze the same effect except that it can also fog Borborygmos Enraged's ability?
