@LordAceX Your list is very close to what i'm taking to a PPTQ tomorrow. I will be main boarding both Kiras though to help with the burn that i will be facing. Also I would most defiantly remove one or two caverns. The caverns can screw your casting of Kiras and spell pierce at a crucial time in the match.. Just my 2cents.
Here is my list:
1 Cavern of Souls
14 Island
4 Mutavault
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
4 Aether Vial
4 Cursecatcher
2 Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
2 Master of Waves
4 Merrow Reejerey
2 Phantasmal Image
4 Silvergill Adept
2 Spell Pierce
4 Spreading Seas
4 Vapor Snag
@mx3baker: I don't hate removing a Cavern, but I'm trial running my current list at FNM tonight and I'll change the deck accordingly. That suggestion is definitely one I'll keep in mind.
I noticed no lists are running Pithing Needle, thoughts on why? It hits Walkers, Man lands, equipment, and many various creatures from Tsagiur to Arcbound Ravager and more. Is it there is too much to name in modern, is it deck lists vary so greatly? Is it we have no Probe or way to peek into their hand? Is it too easy to just remove?
I know a few lists run Chalice since it does cover more cards and I have found more success with it...it can be just so mana intensive to get a good pay off against the decks it really hoses (like storm). I've just been mulling over sideboard cards and Needle just sticks out to having such strong possibilities...
I wanted to see what the overall feeling was on it, it really struck me as odd...I have a few from legacy merfolk and was gonna test them out in my SB from now on
On Caverns, 1 or 2 is fine, more than that is greedy unless your meta is saturated with control. I only run 1 and I've done just fine, if control dries up in my meta i'd probably swap them for Tec Edge in the main.
THIS 100X!!! If you don't agree with this then there is no amount of logic that will ever convince you that good, non-oppressive, combos should be allowed. If you don't agree with it then just don't play this game, and you certainly shouldn't feel entitled to make any comment on ban lists ever.
Rd.12 Bloom Titan (Stephen Speck) 1-2
Game 1 he plays a turn 2 Primeval Titan and wins on turn 3 in the face of my Cursecatcher and Silvergill Adepts. Game 2 he got a game loss for writing Firespout instead of Pyroclasm in his sideboard. Game 3 he was on the play and had what he called "Gin". Simian Spirit Guide, Amulet of Vigor, Summer Bloom, Hive Mind, Summoner's Pact...
My scoresheet for this game looks so empty. It seems I accidentally scored the game in my favour for the 3rd out of confusion. I didn't know what hit me. With this loss I was no longer contending for the top 8.
Just curious, did you hear about Stephen's actions today? You may have gotten cheated out of top 8.
Went 3-1 with this list tonight and loved how it played! I will be sticking with it for Sunday. Played vs Tron, Affinity, and Burn and lost to the mirror match (my friend who helped me build the deck). He drew a lot of Master of the Pearl tridents in all of the games while I drew a ton of Lord of Atlantis...and we all know who wins that fight. I also got stuck on 2 lands game 1.
Hope you don't play against them since they are slowly slipping to tier 2, vapor snagging a titan can buy you a turn, spreading seas are useless as they just play bouncelands to get the Seas land back, cursecatch to stop hivemind pacts, swan song or spell pierce to stop hive mind from hitting the table or to counter a pact in the first place. Basically, just hope
Can I ask what happened with Stephen? I know a few other players were caught cheating, but didn't heard about this one.
He would present a deck of 53 cards to be shuffled by the opponent while he palmed a nutted starting hand. He also turn 1 killed my Splinter Twin friend in Vancouver. A lot of turn 1 kills!
Notes:
The mana base looks sort of rough but it feels fine, actually.
The main benefit I feel this list has over a more standard list is that it is significantly more explosive. CC into 2 Lords is VERY strong.
CC is also very useful for digging for certain cards, like, for example, a much needed Tidebinder Mage to tap my opponent's lingering Siege Rhino or a spellskite in response to removal.
I initially added Noble Hierarchs from the fear of consistently needing to hit 4 mana, but it's surpassed my expectations. It helps in early combat, it mana ramps, and even mana-fixes sometimes. Also draws bolts.
The deck gives more of a combo-finish feel, which I find pretty fun.
Root Maze is interesting but it seems like it could be pretty harmful to us if we don't have vial. Whether this disadvantage is less than our opponent's disadvantage, I don't know.
Here is my list:
1 Cavern of Souls
14 Island
4 Mutavault
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
4 Aether Vial
4 Cursecatcher
2 Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
2 Master of Waves
4 Merrow Reejerey
2 Phantasmal Image
4 Silvergill Adept
2 Spell Pierce
4 Spreading Seas
4 Vapor Snag
Sideboard:
2 Dismember
3 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Master of Waves
2 Relic of Progenitus
2 Spell Pierce
2 Tectonic Edge
3 Tidebinder Mage
It is just stupidly good against it and it have upside against other deck too.

In a way this is good news because that means I really made top 8 in GP Omaha

I was shocked to learn that the guy who had 5+ turn 1 Amulet kills at GP Vancouver was DQ'd today for palming his starting 7. Shocked!
