Also, Path to Exile is more effective against things we must deal with, like Spellskite. The Command is not a solid removal as we may find ourselves in a situation where our bogle is not big enough to fight the opponent's one.
I guess Dromoka's Command is Modern Playable, but her home is elsewhere (GW Stompy or Abzan Liege perhaps?)
Hey guys,
For the longest time, I was running boggles with 20 lands, including a Dryad Arbor. It was fine, but I found that my curve was lower then I wanted it to be and I often was screwed at one or no mana. I decided to move up to 21 mana, taking out a Brushland and a Keen Sense for two off color fetch lands I had lying around. Ever since then, I've been running out of gas early like nobody's business. It's weird -- I will keep an opening hand with a few lands, a bogle and a couple auras, play the bogle turn 1, auras turn two, and then just get flooded with dead cards after that, whether they are lands or extra bogles. This had happened before but now it's happening at a far higher rate and I'm very confused. Am I doing something wrong? This is my deck list -- please note there's only one Horizon Canopy due to budget reasons -- I managed to trade for that at the last FNM but I can't bring myself to shell out $35 for a nonessential card (read: not Daybreak Coronet.

I too once shared your views with regards to Horizon Canopy of not being an essential card but when I was able to borrow a set for a whole month, I immediately decided to buy my own set. The draw ability of the card really helps, I was able to get out of losing situation due to being able to either filter the topdeck or get the card I need to win that turn. Try it out first, before you judge.

Okay thanks. I did find the one Horizon Canopy I had very helpful. Does increasing your amount of Canopies lead to running 21 lands instead of 20?
I run 21 lands, but with 8 fetches to fetch 2 Dryad Arbor, 1 Forest, and 4 Temple Garden.
Horizon Canopy is very good, but at least recently for me, I have just drawn more lands off them.

You will not be able to experimentally tell the difference between 20 and 21 lands without playing hundreds if not thousands of games. The difference you feel after going to 21 lands is probably due to variance rather than the actual difference in land count. So how many lands should we run? It's hard to know for sure. I personally feel that 21 is better than 20, but I don't really have any evidence to offer. As for what lands to play, if you want to play at a competitive level these lands are mandatory IMO:
This is 17 lands so you need 3-4 more. Personally I would recommend just adding 4 Wooded Foothills or other green fetches, but you could certainly make a case for replacing some of them for an extra Dryad Arbor or Temple Garden. White fetches are not recommended at all since they cannot get Dryad Arbor, and green fetches can get you a Temple Garden anyway if you're desperate. Cathedral of War should not be considered for a land slot but rather a spell slot since it doesn't really cast enough of the spells in the deck.
If you cannot get hold of Horizon Canopy I would stay at 20 lands (not including Cathedral of War) since you have less mana sinks.
Hi, I just put together my first modern deck and decided on trying Bogles. I have the main deck now complete or atleast I think I do. lol I need help for sure with my side board and any possible suggestions or changes to anything in the main. I havent played it anywhere yet so I am not sure of the local meta game but Im sure it is strong as I live near a big city with lots of players.
I think your list and the SB look pretty good. The only thing I would change is a very slight change. I would change 1 Unflinching Courage to another Spirit Mantle. Spirit Mantle puts the opponent at a huge disadvantage in game 1. Also I would change 1 more Unflinching Courage to a Spirit Link. It gives another low cost life gain and this one can be put on an opponent's creature to stop it from killing you or help one of your lifelink creatures to make you gain the life twice. It will lower your curve and in my experience, Unflinching Courage is a bit slow.

Your deck looks great! Funnily enough our sideboards are identical, save for one card (you have an extra Spirit Mantle, I have a Kataki). I agree that 3 Unflinchings is too much though, I would take one out for a Keen Sense, and then another out for either a Spirit Link, if your local meta is heavily aggro, or Mantle if it isn't. Good luck!
Hey guys, after going 1-2 and 2-1 at my last two modern FNMs, I managed to go 3-0 last night! Here's a tournament report:
First round was against this godawful white weenie deck. It wasn't even good white weenie -- you'd think he just threw whatever cheap white cards he had into the deck. Needless to say, it was an easy victory for me, though I also got some great hands, turn 4 killing him each time.
2-0
1-0 total
Second round was much harder. It was against this discard heavy B/W Midrange deck. It is somewhat similar to the classic Deadguy Ale deck, but more control-y, and more Black heavy, running 4 Phyrexian Obliterators. Game one I kept a ballsy hand with no bogle but a Dryad Arbor and Kor Spiritdancer. He inquisitioned the Spiritdancer away, and after I suited up the Arbor, he Path to Exiled it. I got more creatures but he found someway of removing them. I eventually scooped after I sacced my Bogle at 5 or so life. Game two I kept a pretty good hand with a PTE, Bogle, Ethereal Armor, Coronet, and a few lands. I played around his sac effects, keeping one fetch uncracked at all times. My bogle steadily grew, and he couldn't remove it before I killed him on turn 5 or 6. He showed me a double Liliana of the Veil hand, which he could have used next turn to make me sac my Arbor, then my Bogle. Game 3, he was on the play, and I was prepared to mull down to however low it took to get into one of the four Leyline of Sancitys I boarded in against him. Luckily I didn't need to, as I got one in my otherwise good opening hand. He couldn't deal with it and I cruised to an easy game two victory.
2-1
2-0 total
Third round was Merfolk. I know we have a crappy matchup against them and I was already mentally kicking myself for not putting Chokes in my sideboard. I decided to hope for the best and see what happened. Game one he had a pretty slow hand and I had another great one, with a turn 3 Coronet. That proved to me an MVP against him, allowing me to swing, gain life, and block his creatures. The turn before I won, he swung for about 20 with Islandwalk (he Spreading Seas one of my lands the turn before) but by that point I was at 35 life an it was too late for him. My bogle had Spirit Mantle on it, so he couldn't block, and I swung for easily lethal. Between game 1 and 2, he asked me if I want to split packs. I said sure, but I wasn't sure what the pack ratio was. He went to check and reported back that it was 3 for 3-0, and 2 for 2-1, with the promo for the winner as well. I said that in that case, I wasn't very interested in splitting packs, but he persisted, saying that we already agreed to it. I said whatever, agreeing that the winner would get 2 packs and the promo, and the loser would get 3 packs. I figured I probably wouldn't win anyways. Game two was pretty similar. I got another early Coronet, which he had trouble coming back from. However turn 4 or so, when he had two Merfolk out (the tap/untap lord and something else) he swung into my coronetted bogle that could easily block and kill one of them, and then gain more life off that then the other one was swinging for. I blocked the lord, thinking he may have some trick up his sleeve, but he didn't. I won a few turns later, but I'm still not 100% sure he didn't intentionally throw that game for the extra pack. I pulled some moderately good stuff in my packs, but the guy pulled a Sarkhan, supposedly in the pack I gave him. That's the last time that I'm splitting packs.
Overall though it was a very satisfying night. Nice to know my deck still can get it done. Right before the tournament I tweaked my deck a little, taking out a Cathedral of War for another aura (Keen Sense) and an Unflinching Courage for another Spirit Mantle. I don't know how much different it made, but I found myself getting mana flooded a lot less with the new setup. I'm gonna pick up a third Spider Umbra and replace a Keen Sense with it, as well as taking out a Flooded Strand for a second Wooded Foothills but after that I like shape my deck is in. Now it's just a matter of getting more Horizon Canopys...
Congratulations on your 3-0. I know it sucks about the prize split, but the wins are more important. At least that's how I feel. I truly believe that the small changes that you made helped you a bit.

Thanks! Yeah I care a lot more about victories then prize packs. I'm just annoyed because I think he may have thrown the second round, in which case it doesn't feel like a real win. But I may have won anyways (aside from that suicide swing, it looked like he didn't make any misplays or anything) so it doesn't bother me that much.
And why aren't Spiritdancers that great in this meta? We could replace them with ledgewalkers but imo they're still worth running.
Congrats on your wins! That is very encouraging you are doing well against Merfolk as my buddy I play runs that deck and we went about 50/50 last time we played, I noticed that when I could get a coronet out that was a major major difference obviously. I am going to be playing some later tonight against his deck so hope I do okay.

He may just have really had no outs other than to bluff with the creature and hope that you don't block. I have often done odd moves at the end of a game that I can't win no matter what (like having 4 lands in hand) just to see what my opponent will do in this situation. Then I board and play accordingly.
Would it be considerable to run 2 ledgewalkers and 2 Kor's instead of 4 kor's? I was thinking of trying that out.
It's not advisable. I have played Ledgewalker in Pauper and he's even weak there. Well, at least compared with a 1 mana Bogle or Gladecover Scout. But it's unavoidable in Pauper because there's no better choice. It's just too slow and doesn't have the explosiveness that Kor Spiritdancer has. Imagine playing against Affinity. You have a Kor Spiritdancer and some Auras. If they don't kill you turn 3 or have the timely Galvanic Blast, they straight up lose, assuming you have Lifelink, Trample, or Pro Creature. Kor Spiritdancer is good because an opponent can't keep removal out because he will beat them. If they draw removal and you don't draw Spiritdancer, they also probably lose. Also, remember that Spider Umbra and Daybreak Coronet on Kor Spiritdancer automatically beats Affinity, although 1 guy told me that they sometimes have 2 Dispatch in the side.
Why have bogles decks dropped Keen Sense from their decklists?
I admit that I've never tried Keen Sense before, but sometimes when I don't draw too many Auras, I can't imagine drawing an Aura that won't make my guy bigger. It would be a death sentence. Now I know that drawing 1 early gives you the gas that you need and helps you draw into more Auras. That part is good, but I didn't want to include it. I guess I could possibly take out Unflinching Courage altogether and put in 1 Keen Sense to play test.
I am playing in my Store Invitational this coming Saturday. It will be 3 rounds of Modern and then 3 rounds of Standard. They just changed the top 8 to 3 rounds of Modern, so I hope to compete this time (instead of losing my win-and-in in the final round of the Swiss like last time because I had to play with poor tiebreakers). Last time, it was 6 rounds of Standard...
*I am making 1 change and currently play testing it. Now I have 3 Temple Garden and 1 Plains instead of 4 Temple Garden. This will help me not to lose as much life and also have something to fetch when Path to Exile or Ghost Quarter hits, while the main reason is Blood Moon.

Round 1: Affinity: 1-2: I thought I was more or less an par with the opposing deck. I would have had game 3 if I did not go 6 turns in a row without drawing land.
Round 2: Infect: 0-2: I just did not get the draws I needed to deal with the threats.
Round 3: Affinity: 0-2: Again, the draws were killer, and my opponent got everything they needed to overwhelm me. Didn't help that I had to mulligan to 4 in game 2.
Round 4: American Kiki Twin: 2-1: I feel that control/burn related decks are one of our best match-ups. This one was control heavy, but I was able to manoeuvre around the counters. Leyline in game 2 and 3 did wonders.
Day 2
Round 1: Ad Nauseam: 0-2: In all honesty, I have very few responses to this deck. I need to bring my life to around 35-38 to be able to survive the combo going off.
Round 2: RW Burn: 2-0: Fun matchup. Game 1 is pretty bad for them, and game 2 got worse with leyline. He got me down to sub-10 life in both games, but it was never enough.
Round 3: UW Gifts: 2-1: Weird deck. Didn't expect it. Its typical UW control, with the addition of Gifts Ungiven to fetch some nasty creatures (like Tron). Game 1 went in my favor, while game 2 was no contest after a wrath and a subsequent Elish.
Round 4: WGR Elves/Beltcher: 1-2: Deck came out of nowhere. I had no idea it even had bletcher until game 3, where it was too late to side-in the proper hate. I also hardcore mana flooded in game 3.

Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/
Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander -
Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Here is my report from two nights of play:
Day 1
Round 1: Affinity: 1-2: I thought I was more or less an par with the opposing deck.
