I still love the idea of MB cryptics and mana leak in place of remand. Also the white splash is great as protection for fast aggro decks or decks that throw pretty big creatures at you.
If you're cutting remand and Cryptic why are you even playing btl instead of Titanshift. I am trying Wall of Omens in place of Remand currently but cutting Cryptic makes 0 sense. Replacing remand with mana leak seems counter intuitive as I am trying out not playing remand because counterspells that aren't flexible like charm or cryptic have become alot worse.
I went 5-4 this weekend in Dallas. Considering it was my first GP I am pretty happy with the result. My list is at the top of this page; the only differences being an extra Anger in the board and a Spellskite replacing the Krosan Grip and Izzet Staticaster. After a lot of testing I have been very happy with the 2-2 split of Remands and Explores. I dont want to entirely cut Remands, but I have won a number of games purely because my topdeck was explore instead of remand. To those discussing cutting Cryptic, Im pretty sure thats crazy talk- turn 3 Cryptic will always be good. On to the report...
Match 1 vs Hatebears win 2-1
I am very familiar with this matchup due to one of my friends playing the deck and being very good with it. I won in 3- Game 1 off a scapeshift, game 2 He aven mindcensored my scapeshift and then played an enchantment (I forget what its called, but it prevents all non-combat damage that would be dealt to creatures you control) and that was good enough for him to beat me down. Game 3 I was on the Omen land drop plan with 2 Valakuts in play and that got him on turn 6.
Match 2 vs Bant Spirits loss 1-2
He won game 1 with 4 Drogskol Captains on the board. yuck. Game 2 he swings in with Geist, rattlechains and selfless spirit. I flash in an ambushcaster to block geist and he spell quells it as i hoped. I izzet charm his selfless and take a bunch, untap anger his board and use my returning snapcaster to flashback a serum and find the win. Game 3 he has a very aggressive start and I get stuck on mana. oh well.
Match 3 vs Bushwacker Zoo win 2-0
Game 1 I keep a very risky hand with 2 Cryptics, 4 blue sources, and Scapeshift. He leads with Kird Ape and I think im toast. However he gets stuck on 1 land and cant beat me before I get to Cryptic- I fog him 3 turns in a row, then Anger, then Scapshift. Game 2 I drew all the sideboard and got off 3 Baloths and an Anger. The Baloth beatdowns won.
Match 4 vs Zoo again loss 0-2
I used up my luck vs this deck in my previous match as I drew no Angers game 1 and no sideboard game 2. I got crushed.
Match 5 vs Jeskai Nahiri loss 0-2
Both games I had an absurd amount of time to find and resolve a scapehift or Titan and ended both games with a hand of land. Felt really bad getting my 3rd loss vs a pretty good matchup.
Match 6 vs BW Eldrazi hatebears win 2-0
Once agin being extremely familiar with the gameplan of a hatebears style deck payed off and I won pretty handily.
7 vs Jeskai Nahiri win 2-0
Staying alive in the dreamcrusher bracket. This time the games played out better and I had no issue finding my wincons and smooshed him pretty hard.
8 vs mono blue taking turns loss 1-2
I am completely unfamiliar with this deck outside of the knowledge that it exists. In both my games 1 and 3 losses I misplayed badly leading directly to the loss. The dream is dead.
9 vs zooicide not really win 2-0
So I sit down, my opponent shows up and we start playing. The guy next to us is watching our game as his opponent hasnt showed. As I lose game 1 a judge stops by to hand out match slips and take care of the guy next to us. Turns out my opponent was in the wrong seat. He was a little tilted to begin with but this took him to full on a-hole. So I won my last game because my opponent didnt show. I would have like to play but oh well.
So, like I said, first GP. It was an awesome experience and although I feel I could have done better, I realize I did win some tough matchups so I couldve done a lot worse as well.
So why aren't most decks running primeval titans? Is bring to light just better because for 5 mana we tutor for, and cast our win con? Honestly I'd keep in cryptic because it's so good. I'd cut remands for leaks

I played the btl version for a while and it was fine, but it just folds to hate. I really enjoy the RUG Omen titanshift that ive been playing, as it is very versatile and resiliant, and for me is just way more rewarding to play well than the btl version ever was.

I think you take out the Scapeshifts for Breaches. Commune with Lava for Summoner's Pact. Khalni Heart Expedition for Simian Spirit Guide/Oath of Nissa or something.
That's because the deck is dead. If you want to play a Valakut deck, choose between TitanShift and Breach. No reason to play this deck anymore. I say that as a person who played RUGShift since the day it was unbanned in modern. It hurts (a lot), but it's the truth.
That's what we get for trying to play blue and be interactive.

Classic RUG Scapeshift is definitely still a good deck. Scapeshift is the best Cryptic Command fueled deck by a large margin, and as long as Cryptic Command is good Scapeshift will be viable.

Playing such a high-cost interactive spell as the crux of your deck is very dangerous right now.
Maybe not unplayably bad, but its certainly not popular.

Just because it's not popular doesn't mean it's not good.

I saw that list a week ago and its been great. Got to the top 8 of a 45 person event and went 3-1-0 (intentional draw last match) twice during the last two modern nights at card kingdom Bellevue.
Hello everyone, I wonder if there's any way I can deal with Eldrazi decks if I'm running RUG scapeshift (no bring to light)
I feel all my kill spell are for toughness 3 or less....Any suggestion? Thanks
Hey guys, I've been playing RGu Titanshift for a few years now. I do rather like my list (although it could use some work) and would love some suggestions. I noticed earlier some stuff about RUG Omenshift, which was essentially what my list was based off of, albeit a 2014 version. My shop doesn't have any Omens though so I've not actually been playing with them. Instead, I've got an extra land and 3 Khalni Heart Expedition. However, running 4 Omen seems like it would make it a dead card a lot. Admittedly, it's a nice backup against decks running Reclamation Sage and Qasali Pridemage. So, what does having Prismatic Omen do to the deck and how it operates? How does it change the card values in the deck and how it plays? I'd really like some advice, as I'm planning on taking this deck (or a similar version) to SCG Charlotte and Baltimore this coming summer. My list: https://deckbox.org/sets/14351
I know that it's not nearly as much of a controlling deck as the rest on this thread (although it can side into it g2-3 for the most part), but I feel like it's more related to this deck than the RG version. There are a few adjustments I'd like to make if I had money, like sideboard Chalice/Spellskite, better lands, and such. I've gone 3-1 with the list almost every FNM I've taken it to, with generally a loss to Infect, Affinity, Dredge, or Ad Nauseaum, with the occasional oddball deck like Abzan CoCo, 8 Rack, etc. If I could get some pointers on how to try to deal with the Infect/Affinity/Dredge matchups that would be absolutely fantastic, as well as decklist advice.
Omen is a great card. A lot of people play with the thought of "OK, I'm safe as long as they don't get their 7th land drop". Omen lets you combo out on your sixth land drop, and it does quite a lot more damage. Omen also makes a topdeck valakut much better, and also gives us more value with our fetches (and of course, it fixes mana!). if you have an active valakut with omen out, a fetch land is essentially a double bolt.
In short, omen fixes our mana, lets us combo out a turn faster than usual for over 70 damage, and also gives us a lot of extra percentage points in grindy matchups. Definitely pick them up!
P.S, sorry for not going too much into detail, I'm very tired. If you haven any more questions about RUG Scapeshift without BTL, I'd be happy to help!

All brutal they can do is pretty much turn two Thought-Knot Seer. Outside of that you just Remand Cryptic tempo them out and slam Scapeshift. You can board out Bolts for Roasts + Baloths, Roasting Reality Smasher with Baloth in hand is quite sweet. Roasts are also good against Tasigurs and Anglers.
But overall the matchup should be in your favor because they don't interact with stack or hand too hard.
Against Bant Eldrazi the way I have been approaching it is this. If they go turn 2 thought knot its just something they do; and Im probably not going to win when that happens. Otherwise the matchup is pretty good for us. Cryptic really shines here being able to tap their team or even counter a spell and bounce thought knot to draw a card and slow them down (although that is a pretty situational play). Really though just being able to Cryptic turn 3 onwards is really good vs them. In my experience the games are always very close, but we can normally win a turn before they kill us.
On Prismatic Omen- I run 4 after trying 3 for a little while. Although the 2nd copy is almost always dead the card is so good I want to see it every game. To mitigate the extra copies it is a good idea to run a couple izzet charms to occasionally use the draw/discard mode. Prismatic gives us a fantastic late game in those games where scapeshift or Prime Time just isnt coming up. I cannot count how many games ive won just by playing land drops and bolting my opponent. It is also very good for keeping the opponents board clear of important creatures. I always enjoy pointing a valakut trigger at a master of waves or etched champion and then explaining to my opponent that valakut is colorless and pro anything doesnt help. It also makes Blood Moon far easier to work around- the last played enchantment is the one that affects us so an omen after a Blood Moon gives us perfect mana again, even if its the other way around we can still tap basics for any color. Also as previously stated, the omen makes us consistently faster, increasing the number of turn 4 kills that come up. And one more use- jamming a turn 2 omen vs any control deck means we win, as long as a valakut comes up. Resolving a 4 mana spell against control can sometimes be pretty tricky, but they have no way to interact with every land drop being a bolt.
