Okay guys, I've been a major advocate of Mono Blue Tron for a friend of mine who's getting back into the game and he's now building the deck. However, I'm concerned about ways for Mono Blue Tron to stand up against decks such as Affinity or Infect in the first two or three turns, because I don't have that much experience with the deck (especially in the recent meta). Any thoughts? Here's what he'd run.
Dismember seems so much better. Think about all the things Dismember will hit that Oona's Gatewarden can't:
Pestermite/Exarch/Resto/etc + Twin
Young Pyro
Dark Confidant
Thalia (or any other first strike)
Azusa
and basically everything else that is useful enough to be held back. I am not saying you shouldn't test it, I played Steel Wall for a while and it was okay-ish, this might be strictly better.
so I've been keeping up with this thread for a while, and have been piloting Blue Tron moderately for several months now. This weekend, I went out to a 30 player modern event, and took it down 4-0-1 with a split for first. Figured that it'd be about time to start posting on these forums, and what better way than with a little gloating.
First off, here's my list. It's a bit out of the ordinary in some regards, but I chalk them up to meta choices and / or experimentation. (I personally use AutocardAnywhere, and assume that anyone else who reads these forums does as well. If this is not the case, sorry, but there aren't any links)

To recap how the night went down:
Round one - Boggles 2-0
This turned out to be super easy. Cyclonic Rift was an MVP here, as I was able to overload it both games to get the win. The first couple of turns were a bit scary because he took me down to ~7 both games by turn 3, but I had turn three tron into wurmcoil game one which then turned into turn four Rift Wurm beatdown. Game two, I played a turn three Trading Post which kept me alive until I could rift him and tutor for the MindLock. It was very straightforward as he didn't offer any sort of resistance in path or whatever else that deck has.
Holy Cannolis, is this deck hard to beat. Game one I got pooped on by a turn 4 win. Couldn't do anything about it. Turn one Goblin Guide into turn two Double Lava Spike into more burn spells turn three, I just couldn't keep up. Game two, the real MVP was my test subject of Monastery Siege. He had a rather slow start with a Turn one Goblin Guide Turn two no play. Siege on Dragons gave me enough time to set up some lands and tutor for a Platinum Angel. Game three was rather similar, though I had a chalice on one Turn two, and he just scooped. I was a bit confused, but understanding after he told me that round one he tried playing through a Chalice on one and went to time, and he wasn't having any part of that gain.
Sideboard: +3 Chalice of the Void, +2 Monastery Siege, -2 Treasure Mage, -1 Sundering Titan, -1 Foresee, -1 Oblivion Stone
Round Three: The Actual, Factual Modern Event Deck 2-0
I honestly couldn't tell if this was a joke or if this guy was serious, but he sits down at the table with no playmat, no life pad, just the event deck box. Opens it up, the deck has those foil sleeves and everything, and I'm just like "This is going to be fantastic". Game one, he plays a bunch of tokens with zero forms of disruption, and Cyclonic rift is the hero wiping his stuff away. I went to 1 that game because I couldn't find a win condition until a turn after the rift, but Sundering Titan eventually got there when I drew it that turn. I was able to counter his flashbacked Lingering Souls to keep the Titan chugging uncontested. Game two I had a turn three Platinum Angel which got pathed, Turn four Mindslaver which got Stony Silence'd (His only modification to the deck, apparently.), and turn five Titan which also met the path. It then turned into a super grindy game of Trading Post and Vault of the Archangel just gaining a ton of life for both sides that finished with Treasure Mage beats and a score of Me - 3, Him - 0. He probably should have been using the vault to block and kill my mages, but apparently he thought it'd be better to go for consecutive beats.
Game one we both started kind of slow and I ended up being able to bounce all of his twin targets in response to twin being cast, then proceed to win the counter war (happened twice). Platinum angel beats got there. Game two, He turn four's me because I mulligan to a super sketchy hand of Island, Tower, 3x Thirst for Knoledge, 1x fabricate. I never drew the third mana source. Game three was another very grindy ordeal because I had to slog my way through Goyfs and Huntmaster of the fells trying to beat me down. Trading post was once again used to gain just enough life to let me live, and I was able to pull out the MindLock, which according to him he had never seen, and use his spellskite to kill him. It was glorious. Not sure why he kept in the skites, but hey, whatever works.
Round Five: Jund, I think. We split here and didn't end up playing, but I remember him casting a lightning bolt with a liliana on the field.
Overall, I feel like the tournament went well, though I played a lot of people who just didn't know how to play against me (or how to play modern in general). To address the Oddballs in my list and how they did, Wayfarer's Bauble was amazing as a fifth turn one play. It's no map, but if you're locked with Tron pieces only in your hand, finding the blue source without using a map is just great. I don't think I prefer it over all of the talismans, but having one is an awesome include, and I feel like 1-2 is the right split here. Trading Post was an MVP every time I played it. I don't think that i'd go up to more than 1 copy because it can be a dead draw sometimes, but it's amazing at keeping you alive, or playing the attrition game. I didn't play up against any control decks, so Foresee wasn't too terribly relevant, but I still think that it's a great include in those sorts of late game matches. Having a bunch of cyclonic rifts, I feel, just gives me better utility than loading up on counterspells, but that's because a great majority of what I plan to play against is permanent based. If that changes, the rifts will be some of the first to go. Finally, Monastery siege is an allstar in the side. It acts as both a Leyline of Sanctity in the burn / 8rack matchup or just more filtering in the control matchup. I feel that this is a good sideboard fill because of the multi-purpose utility it offers. It's not always relevant, but it can put some real work in.

Well, there's my tournament recap. Hope I was able to give some insight into the possibilities with this deck. I may not be an expert, but I do very much enjoy this build because it allows me to just troll people super hard. It's definitely not optimal, but it is the most fun that i've had with the archetype.
Hey guys, so I want to build this deck, but I have no idea what decklist I should look into or just buy the basic one and customize it later down the road. I did some research and I wanted to ask the Mono U Tron community here if this build is any good.
So I got this list, by looking at various MTGO and other decklists online. I wanted to know if I need the 1 Fabricate and 1 Gifts Ungiven vs 2 Treasure Mage. I also added 1 Tolaria West + 1 Pact of Negation, as a fail-safe for the deck. I was considering also adding 1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, to make the 4 Dismembers easier to cast. I will add Snapcaster Mage, once I have a little more money.
If you guys have more recommendations please feel free to response. I also wanted to know whats the ideal sideboard for a meta like this:

Thank you for all your help in advance.
I don't think you have enough artifact search, I'd like to see one more. Apart from that, the only glaring flaw is the 1 Pact of Negation.
So another Treasure Mage? Why is Pact of Negation a flaw? I thought it could work out when you need a fail-safe counter, that could end the game. Also I like how you can use it with Platinum Angel.

Most lists run 3 artifact tutors: either 3 Treasure Mage, or 2 Mage and 1 Fabricate. It helps with the consistency, which is one of this deck's strengths.
Pact of Negation can only be cast reliably after turn 4, because that's probably the earliest you can meet the mana requirements even with a Talisman. There is a "Protect the Queen" Tron variant that relies on Angel as the win-con, protected with a full playset of Pacts, but consider that it is a seriously dead card until turn 4 onwards.
Ok I will cut of the Pact. Just one question, isn't 1 Treasure Mage, 1 Fabricate and 1 Gifts Ungivin good enough for tutoring? Also I lot of decklists I have seen run two Snow-Covered Island, any reason behind it?
Snow-Covered Islands are for use with Gifts. If you've sided out Talismans it's the only way to guarantee getting blue source when casting gifts. Island, Snow-covered Island and Map.

Bottle gnomes in my opinion.
Gnomesy can chump block, and can be brought back with academy ruins in a pinch.

But it has nothing to do with this deck or other interactions with the Modern format.
