I played All Is Dust instead of the 2nd World Breaker, plus one Relic and one Emrakul, the Promised End main.
ROUND 1 vs. 5color Tribal Zoo - 2:1
I loose first game quite quickly.
SB:
-1 Emrakul
-1 Ulamog
-2 Karn Liberated
-2 Sylvan Scrying
-1 Chromatic Sphere
+3 Nature's Claim
+1 Engineered Explosives
+1 Relic of Progenitus
+2 Thragtusk
Game 2, I get natural Tron with a Wurmcoil Engine in my opening 7, and draw a second one on T2. My opponent has no Path to Exile, and I win.
Third Game, I start with one Tron piece and an Expedition Map in my Opener. First draw is the second Tron piece, so I can again cast Wurmcoil Engine on T3. Oblivion Stone and Ulamog close the game.
ROUND 2 vs. UR Storm - 1:2
First game, I loose without anything to do.
SB:
-2 Pyroclasm
-2 Ugin
-1 Oblivion Stone
-2 Wurmcoil Engine
-2 Sylvan Scrying
-1 Chromatic Sphere
+1 Engineered Explosives
+3 Nature's Claim
+2 Autumn's Veil
+1 Relic of Progenitus
+1 Grafdigger's Cage
+2 Warping Wail
Game 2, I have 3 SB cards in my opener, and can steal a victory.
Game 3 I mulligan to 5, and loose.
ROUND 3 vs. Abzan Vizier CoCo - 2:1
First game, I have T2 Pyroclasm, T3 All Is Dust followed by T4 Ugin.
SB:
-1 Wurmcoil Engine
-1 Karn Liberated
-2 Sylvan Scrying
-1 Chromatic Sphere
+1 Engineered Explosives
+2 Warping Wail
+1 Pithing Needle
+1 Grafdigger's Cage
Game 2, I mulligan to 5 and loose.
Game 3 I have T4 Tron with 2 O-Stones followed by Ugin and Emrakul. GG
ROUND 4 vs. UWR Tempo - 2:0
First game, I resolve a T3 Karn Liberated and win.
SB:
-1 Oblivion Stone
-2 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
-1 Wurmcoil Engine
-2 Karn Liberated
-2 Sylvan Scrying
-1 Chromatic Sphere
+3 Nature's Claim
+2 Autumn's Veil
+1 Relic of Progenitus
+1 Pithing Needle
+2 Warping Wail
I suggested my opponent would be on Jeskai Saheeli Control, that' s the reasoning behind my Boarding.
Game 2, I have T4 Tron with T5 Karn (countered) followed by T6 Emrakul. Fetching his turn shows me a Library with 0 answers to Emmy. So I win 2:0.
Finally, my opponent's win percentage granted me 1st place and a Cavern of Souls as my price.
Towards the Humans MU: the Humans Player also needs a somewhat aggressive Opener, because otherwise that deck has a rather slow Clock. Always remember the 3drop with flying and haste. Of course, running the best version of Tron (GR with Pyroclasm) improves the MU significantly.
Finally bit the bullet, sold my Groves, and built GB Tron. Couldn't be happier. Hopeful for tomorrow's local tourney and crossing my fingers for some good matchups.
good on you! i honestly love gb tron. i'm still playing some standard until after christmas since i've been doing well with it but come january, i'll be back in the tron drivers seat. got 2 gps in my area in 2018 and they are both modern (hartford and providence) and i'm going to be tronning it up there.
what list are you running? i'm on hoogland's current one. sideboard is not the same but other than that, i love it.
I would love it if you updated the primer. It looks pretty dated. I'm planning to run this deck at this weekend's RPTQ and could use any help I can get. I think the biggest questions I have are around sideboarding.
Can anyone share or link me to good sideboarding info for GB Tron?

If you can stand Jeff... I cant!
i get it. he is very hard to handle. i disagree with certain things but he is one of the few who plays GB tron online so i just usually suffer through it.
ANYWAY! today was fnm. i was gonna play standard but a buddy of mine convinced me to play modern. luckily, i had my tron deck on me. here's what i was playing.
I finished 2-0-1 and tied for first. my store gives out a card and packs for winning so i got a gifts ungiven and 2 packs of ixalan (pulled a foil vraska!) so here are my matchups.
R1: Scapeshift. Won in 2. This should be a tough matchup (at least personally, not sure if it is for the deck itself). Game 1, I assembled tron on turn 3 and was able to just exile his lands like crazy. he eventually scapeshifted (dealing 3 to my karn and 9 to me) but i was at 20. so it only brought me to 11. i was able to karn next turn and get his valakut and win. Game 2 was very similar but he was stuck on 3 lands for a few turns. Ugin and Karn won.
R2: GB Zombies. Won in 3. G1 he was only on 2 lands so I just kept exiling them. Easy. Game 2 I drew my opener (2 tron pieces, 2 karns, 1 wurmcoil, 1 ugin and 2 other cards) but mulled. Mistake. I would have had tron turn 3 and probably won. Game 3 I got an Ugin out and just was exiling their stuff.
R3: Merfolk. We decided to split before the game since we were both the only 2 undefeated. He didn't care about what he got so we just played anyway. Game 1, I ran away with Karn and Wurmcoil Engine. Game 2 I cast Emrakul.
Overall, this deck was the nutterbutters. I loved it. I'm really excited to play again. I might go next week and try it out again.
I'm getting so sick of Humans, company decks and that new mardu token shenanigans going around on mtgo, I'm almost voting we all got back to GR until we hate them out of the meta, kozilek's return ftw!!! GB is the tron de jour, and is probably the best but I have been having so much fun with mono green. I saw a list with the flex slots being 3x Wall of Roots and 2x Explore. It sounds bonkers but it is the worlds most consistent tron. It runs 2xGQ and 2x Sanctum with 4 forests and the 12 tron lands. Also now that horizon canopies and groves are so down I bought four of each so I know have all trons in paper :)(and if you like testing all variants now is the perfect time). Happy Tronning!
Since when does GW Tron play Horizon Canopy? My last info was 3/1 on Razorverge Thicket/Brushland? Playing 4 lands that are basically worse painlands does not seem appealing to me.
I am aware that they can cycle away for a mana but we already have 8 eggs and 4 stirrings to find our threats...?

Tom Ross popularized Canopy some months ago, IIRC. I think it has its place as a 1- or 2-of in place of Brushland. The ability to cycle should not be underestimated - do we not play Relics main, knowing that we can cycle them in irrelevant matchups?

I don't consider Humans a bad matchup for the GB variant at all, pretty even but most of my wins come from Ugin of course. Not sure about tokens as I only play in paper. While playing GB Tron, I believe a few of the top decks (E-Tron, GDS, BGx, etc.) are quite good matches for us. Made mincemeat of the aforementioned decks in tonight's tourney but lost against Affinity in Round 1: I blanked on a Stirring after O-Stoning his board and proceed to draw seven lands+nonaction cards in a row. In retrospect I oversideboarded, so if anyone can offer some insight into this matchup I would appreciate it.
I'm not saying its a particularly bad matchup. I'm just saying as a deck it annoys me and it seems like everyone on mtgo is playing it lol

Yes but in most games the cycling ability does end up having quite a bit relevance. I really like them in tron, but you don't need to use them. Also I don't think there is a point to having 3 fastlands in any tron deck. Just doesn't have a good flow Imo and if you have a shot at tron in the first few turns you usually aren't playing a colored land till later on in the game (since you have 8 colored mana rocks) so having the majority of your dual colored lands come into play tapped can be quite detrimental. I prefer to run more basics or more painlands (for example in GB I run 1 Blooming Marsh, 2 Llanawar Wastes as my dual lands). That of course is my personal opinion but I would say test canopies out online or at fnm just to see before you write them off
I'm playing GB Tron currently and seem to be struggling against UW Control lately. Any ideas on how I can tackle this matchup?
Been having the same problem... seems that the UW builds are now running up to 4 Field of Ruins and 4 Spreading Seas mainboard. That match up has gone from steamroll to nightmare reallll quick
So the general consensus for GB builds is 2 blooming marsh, 1 llanowar wastes? My testing on mtgo have shown the painland feels more right the the fastland. I'm probably wrong though
I am planning to dive into Modern right now. Never played Modern before - i only followed some streams here and there. But my deck of choice will be Tron.
When i check several lists and tournament results, i see different kind of Tron Builds but i can't really figure out what's the best version as a starting point. I don't know my local meta yet, so i would like to be well suited for all kind of decks (i know thats not possible :)).
Do you have any advice which kind of list is a good starting point in general?
the easiest would probably be mono green. it has everything the GW and GB lists run. there's a decent list that top 4'd the GP that was this weekend you should check out.
i like GB a lot. fatal pushes and collective brutalities are a lot of fun. i am, however, thinking of going to mono green mainly for consistency but i'm not really sure. i'm really liking GB tron.
but for a first timer, go with mono green. it'll give you the feel of how tron should run and then decide if you want to go white or black or just stay with green. i'm sure others will probably disagree with me.
I honestly really like it. Seems very good. Definitely wanted the mainboard hate against storm and GDS. I can see the 3/2 split between relics/push. Not having brutality in the main seems so weird but if you want to win game 1 against storm and death shadow, i can see putting them in the side for better interaction.
of note: 2 other tron decks were top 8 but both were just mono green. i'm not scared of a ban because there were other big mana decks top 8 as well (jeskai breach and scapeshift, who wound up winning the event). i fear that ponza is going to start getting more popular to try and put a stop to big mana.
Is anyone still on G/W? I'm finally buying into the deck, and the possible sideboard options look amazing with GW, but every resource I've seen seems to be really high on Collective Brutality.
Red should be burn, Goblins, Dragons, draw/discard, and Standard-unplayable 5CMC cards with insane, lengthy effects that take 10 minutes to figure out what they do and another 20 to actually make their effects work on the field.
Everyone was sick of just auto-losing to burn and brutality gives you a fighting chance. If you don't have any burn in your meta, G/W is perfectly fine. Path is an amazing removal spell. And RiP and Rule of Law are baller sideboard options.
