Went 2-2 at last nights FNM with the list I posted on the previous page. Had a cracking time, misplayed a fair bit, but not that fussed as first time playing the deck and learnt a lot.
Round 1 vs Mono-white weenies Game 1 - We both managed to stick a lot of creatures on the board, but a timely meddling Mage naming path to exile, before dumping two mantis riders tipped the balance in my favour. Game 2 - had a much faster clock than my opponent and a turn 2 mantis rider with exalted triggers got me there very quickly.
Round 2 vs Bant Delver Game 1 - had an opening hand of land and 4 meddling Mage. Didn’t know what the opponent was playing so mulled, keeping a much more reasonable hand. However there was nothing I could do against several Goyfs, cryptic command and tamiyo, field researcher. Game 2 - opponent managed to flip two delvers very early, then Goyfs then cryptic command. Felt on the back foot in both games, although my opponent felt it would be a bad match up for them - assuming I played pretty badly...
Round 3 vs Dredge Game 1 - very close game, but found myself in a tricky situation... named conflagarate with meddling Mage, but hadn’t noticed scourge devil in the graveyard with my opponents better board state. Game 2 - got a few creatures down early, followed by some timely mantis rider and reflector Mage, bouncing narcomoeba to ensure no blockers. Game 3 - as we started time on the round run out. Felt I had a very explosive hand, but my opponents turn 3 Conflagrate took out all my humans. Never recovered and lost on turn 5.
Round 4 vs E-Tron Game 1 - a turn 2 thalia, heretic cathar, really hurt my opponent. Followed swiftly by two meddling mages naming; Ugin and Karn (lucky guesses as both in my opponents hand). Game 2 - can’t remember the beginning of the game, but I know I won with 2 mantis rider and 2 reflector Mage and 2 noble Hierarch on the board.
Will continue to play the deck, but think I may drop the auriok Champion from the list for either something more explosive, or more disruptive. I felt that 3 thalia, guardian of thraben was the right number and probably won’t look to get the fourth.
As for other comments, as I’ve only tested the deck once I will wait until I get more games under my belt before making further suggestions/changes. Overall - great fun!

Been fiddling around with the manabase some more and to be short, I did not like how the whole Reflecting Pool idea worked out. Felt less consistent and had to mull hands I would normally have kept with other lands.
I'm back to 3 Ziggurat, 3 Fetches, 2 shocks and 2 canopies alongside our tribal lands and one basic.
Chalice of the Void stays as a sideboard card as it has proven to be quite good versus Jeskai and Grixis specifically. Having it Thoughtseized instead of Vial, Champion or Lieutenant in the same hand says it all.
How is Dark Confidant working out for you all? I see lists with 2 main, 1 main and 1 side and lists without. Mine included. In what matches is it really good? The bad matches are pretty obvious to me.
Only thing I know for sure is I hate being in topdeck mode too fast after a mulligan or two.
I played this deck at GP Madrid in team main event.
Team record is 8-6, not as expected but personnal record is 9-0 day 1 and 3-2 day 2.
I haven't played the deck elsewhere (IRL).
I haven't played Phantasmal Image in Madrid so I don't have personnal thoughts on this card. (Use to play 2 Mayor and 1 Thalia V2 more)
I've lent my deck to a friend this friday for FNM and he went 4-0 and very excited about Phantasmal Image.
Otherwise, Dark Confident is a blast, I play 2 MD and 2 SB and it's really good.
Opponent have to deal with it and it permit you to stay more on the aggro side and if he can't, you get an edge in the game that's really relevant (to me).

I'm also testing two descendants' path for some card advantage in my build. I love what the card does for top deck mode and it is a T2 play off an Heirarch that rivals mantis rider in some matchups. And emphasizing what you mentioned in your post: DP not only casts creatures for you, it also filters lands and vials to the bottom, a huge boost to our game plan once we have 3-4 Mana sources and/or a vial in play.
However, I've found DP can increase Mulligans when one of my lands is an ancient ziggurat with it's creatures-only mana. DP is way too slow on turn 4 in my meta. What's your experience with casting DP on curve vs. having to Mulligan or cast it later? I'm trying -2 ancient ziggurat and +2 City of brass, and so far (in a handful of matches not extensively tested) it seems like the self inflicted pings from City are not a big deal with no dark confidant and no fetch/shock. Thoughts?
Descendants' Path seems decent, however I find the W for Stony Silence sometimes hard to get and I don't like having uncastable card in my hand. Dark Confident come on board easier and can be here one turn earlier on a more regular basis.
Control-ish MU are the harder and on an empty board, BoB seems as well better, even if it's easier to remove it too.
The life loss is relevant though you are the aggro one most of the time.
Canopy really is a must have to me, it makes you draw almost all the time and the deck need it to be more consistant and regular. Seachrome Coast because obviously even if you want to cast your Noble Hierarch, Phantasmal Image is the harder card to cast in this deck (with Stony Silence)
It feel more important to be able to cast Champion of the Parish as well. I rarely played Noble before Champion unless I'm short on land.
And last but not least, you have with 4 Canopy and the rest of the classic manabase more ways to cast Noble than to cast Image.
Quote from "TheBlueOne37" »
How would you finish out the mana base on a budget not wanting to get the other Cavern or Canopies. I have access to all of the fastlands.
M_witte, I like the way you're set up and explain. I fully understand your choices, especially regarding G for Descendant's Path
When I count the sources between a fetch/shock and a fastland manabase I can get equals on W and G (and R, but not that important) but I lose on U and B. 1 and 3 respectively.
I think it won't hurt much since I only run one Phantasmal Image at this moment,
so I will give the following a go in order to run Dark Confidant.
In theory, I lose a little consistency and deck thinnig, but gain life (Burn, Affinity?), Card draw (Grindy Matches) and the Island landtype (Merfolk). I'll see how this works out.
But it doesn't matter if Hanweir Garrison is outclassed. As I said, if you attack once, that's two bodies to pump with Lieutenant and Mayor, two counters on Champion and Lietenant, and two bodies to block affinity creatures. Don't get me wrong, I TOTALLY get that Mantis Rider is better on the turn cycle you play it. In such a fast format, immediate value is king. Still, I would think that I would see SOMEONE brewing with it. It's just weird to me.
it is obvious that for the same colored mana sources count DP is more consistent as it hits the board a turn later and hence offers you to play an additional mana source. DP is not uncastable, but you will never be able to cast a non-creature spell in this deck with the same consistency than you will be able to cast a creature (also because of Aether Vial).
Obviously.
About DP and creature on the board : It depends in which kind of MU you want DP. I think they're about the same as Bob, Control, Midrange (DS, Jund, Mardu) to create some advantage. In these MU, particularly Jeskai Control, it's not rare no to have a single creature on the board.
I will only cast either BOB or DP before I enter topdeck mode when I am not able to cast anything that helps me to follow my main plan: being aggressive.
It will depend, in some MU it's turn 1 Champion into Bob T2 (midranges one most of the time), just because if the opponent doesn't deal with the Bob It will give you a massive edge.
But because we play aggressively, we rarely block but rather attack if possible. Due to that "every little counts", especially life. Hence, I don't understand your conclusion that life loss is relevant but the 5c Humans player is the aggressive player.
Yes, I think the meaning of my thoughts is lost in my poor use of the english language
I will try to explain it more clearly.
The life loss is relevant, it's a fair argument, but in my mind only VS burn/Aggro zoo MU where you will be less aggressive than your opponent.
In almost every other MU the edge gained with Bob is so big that it will crush your opponent if not dealt with. (Maybe I put to much emphasis but you may have understand now how much I'm fond of this card )
Has Bloodlust Inciter ever been considered for Humans?
No because it's really not good. (That is the easy answer)
It's a 1/1 for R. That doesn't have EtB, that doesn't have haste, that doesn't grow.
The "Giving haste" ability isn't relevant in this deck because we don't play threats that we want to attack directly when EtB (like a big Emrakul or look alike)
Assuming that we are most likely to be the aggressor and want lots of creatures on the board, can we be exceptionally greedy and play both; dark Confidant and descendants path?
That logic in the argument above, would it be worth considering combat celebrant? I appreciate that it seems “win-more” but it may have some advantages. Can be played as early as turn 2 (admittedly slightly more taxing on mana - but we already play mantis rider) and if left unchecked could be a game ender, or enable us to apply really strong early game pressure. What are people’s thoughts?
I realise the chance of achieving the above are slim and rely on a good number of creatures and no removal. However, is 1-2 worth consideration?! Happy to be shot down but want some sound justification.

I beleive the CoCo version is best in 3 or 4 color lists. This also allows for better sideboard answers.
Vial has a stronger main deck, and can be more disruptive while also consistently cast mantis rider and be really aggro.
I've been looking over lists lately and practicing the different versions. I have a few questions:
What is everyone's opinion on Mayor vs Phantasmal? Phantasmal seems more tricky and explosive in testing but Mayor stretches the opponents removal and is a lot more consistent.
vial or avacyns pilgrim? Against grindy matchups I like the pilgrim because people either don't remove the dorks and they grow with Mayor and or remove them and I'm happy, but vial is much better with Phantasmal.
Finally, for the sideboard what graveyard hate are you running? Currently I have 2 anafenza and 1 grafdiggers cage.
Also I just wanted to say how great Gaddock Teeg has been for me. It hits every card I care about except for anger of the gods.
I realise the chance of achieving the above are slim and rely on a good number of creatures and no removal. However, is 1-2 worth consideration?! Happy to be shot down but want some sound justification.
I had considered builds and math with Combat Celebrant when the card was released (you can do some 60+ damage by turn 3 !). The new Warkite Marauder would be super interesting to test in such a build, in place of Lyev Skyknight, so you don't lose your Garrison or Celebrant in combat, and you're sure to attack again with it.
Could be sthg like :
Combat Celebrant has no EtB, 1 thoughness and don't have haste. Not good for an "aggro side" card.
AND his CCM is 3.
A lot of things to consider.
Even the flex spots seems better than him because he is something that's just "win more".
Doesn't improve consistancy of the deck neither disruption.
And in the latest list I see, make you play bad cards. (Lightning Mauler, Warkite Marauder, Hanweir Garnison)
In classic list, it's not better that any other random slots for a random effect in random games
Finally, for the sideboard what graveyard hate are you running? Currently I have 2 anafenza and 1 grafdiggers cage.
2 cages, 2 Anafenza does improve a lot of MU even if we're still negative against Dredge I think.
Also I just wanted to say how great Gaddock Teeg has been for me. It hits every card I care about except for anger of the gods.
His only problem in this deck is : "kithin advisor" otherwise it maybe can see play.
If you don't play Phantasmal Image, you maybe can play him and change a Seachrome Coast(or 2) for razorverge thicket
What is everyone's opinion on Mayor vs Phantasmal? Phantasmal seems more tricky and explosive in testing but Mayor stretches the opponents removal and is a lot more consistent.
I use to play mayor, always was somehow disappointed to have him (that's a lie, I can remember some mirror game where he shine because it gave me an edge on my opponent board BUT Phantasmal Image would have done pretty much the same in these configuration without the risk of being flipped off)
Combat Celebrant has no EtB, 1 thoughness and don't have haste. Not good for an "aggro side" card.

It's a card you may compare to Become Immense in Infect or Temur Battle Rage in Traverse Death's Shadow, in the sense that it looks "winmore" on paper, but is actually closer to what I'd call a "blowout play" irl.
It doesn't have anything to do with consistency, it's the top curve that lets you deal a ton of damage through the air, and potentially on the ground after the second attack step.
You're right though, it doesn't disrupt anything, because it's not the goal of such variant of the archetype.
What you see as bad cards are actually powerful in an aggro list. Mauler is by no means bad, but you might not remember GR Zoo in Modern, that has a variant playing Burning-Tree Emissary into Mauler and had moderate success. You can see Mauler as a synergistic card as well as Meddling Mage + Kitesail Freebooter play along nicely. Here it lets you give Celebrant, Garrison and Marauder Haste, which turns those slow cards into "ETB blow outs".
Marauder blocks Affinity and Infect, and lets our grounders run into any grounder, that's rather good in my book for a 2-drop.
Wesste asked a fair question, I replied as correctly as I can, and you come out of nowhere judging cards and synergies you have no experience with (how much experience do you have with a Coco variant btw ?), while I've been brewing Human decks for more than 18 months now, and if I did let that variant down after testing it, I can still see its merits and it could actually be a viable option as time gives us new Humans to fit with Celebrant.
Please keep your mind open with cards players are discussing.
