4x Copperline Gorge (best land to play on turns 1 through 3, can cast red enablers or loam with no pain. Def want 4)
7x fetches - 4x Bloodstained Mire and 3x Wooded Foothills
3x fetch targets - 2x Stomping Ground and 1x Blood Crypt (crypt is down to 1 of here because it's the least important colour in pre boarded games, and generally if I mill into it I can also just loam to get it back. Want to find something to cut for the 2nd crypt some time though)
2x Mountain (generally want to grab these off loam and I like having a 2nd basic for path to exile. I want all of my non Dakmor Salvage lands to tap for red as it's the most important colour for the deck, and including 1 forest to loam under blood moon isn't worth diluting the mana base imo)
2x Dakmor Salvage (self explanatory. I think 2 is the correct amount here and I usually go down to 1 post sideboard, 3 definitely feels like too many to me)
2x Mana Confluence (I like 2 of these for general colour fixing and also a way to cast blue creatures under leyline of the void)
Yes lol ,, I wasn't gonna say it Imborj, but we may aswell bring it up. I was thinking it. The explosiveness of just one more mana within first 2 turns is huge.
T1 brutality ....hmmm
SSG seems powerful in this deck, just goldfished it a couple of times and it enabled some very strong starts. Removed 1x Mountain, 1x Copperline Gorge, 1x Haunted Dead and 1x Lightning Axe from my list on the last page, and will try it out at this week's weekly tournament

Dredge (117-70 W/L in games) (Pre-GGT ban: 103-70 W/L in games)
What if we ran Squee, Goblin Nabob as a way to constantly fill our hand for conflagrates? I'd love to play with 4x conflag and have 4 cards in hand plus whatever I dredge every turn. Feels like it would be a pretty powerful addition to the Loam/Conflag plan
How do you play against other graveyard decks? In the meta at my lgs I feel like I really need to play Leyline of the Void. Two mondays in a row I have really wanted to have them in the sideboard, but decided to leave them home. Goryo's Vengeance and some Protean Hulk schenanigan deck really rekt me today.
As Sandcry said, Vengeful Pharaoh is a champ against Grishoalbanned, I personally prefer Bojuka Bog against other gy decks. Its slow, often you'll see it in gy and then have to dredge and cast a life from the loam to get it, but if you want to guarantee you'll see GY hate, that's the most consistent way i've seen. You can keep a solid hand without it and still will likely end up seeing it at some point.
sooooo journey actually does something in that match.
Its kinda like when I was saying, bog is better in the slower for value matches, and journey is better in the fast key card ones. Dredge to journey, flash back, and you are done. Discard is also good at slowing down to get to journey.
But a Pharaoh doesn't do anything versus Borborygmos Enraged and Griselbrand doesn't need to attack ever to draw cards. And even if Griselbrand attacks, doesn't the Vengeful Pharaoh ability go on the stack and in response the opponent can draw with his additional 7 life he got from attacking? Bojuka Bog seems a little too slow. The Protean Hulk deck killed me twice on turn 3. I think it was this exact deck http://magic.wizards.com/en/events/coverage/gppit15/deck-tech-protean-hulk-combo-2015-11-21
The opponent admitted he got extremely good draws and wasn't able to kill anyone else on turn 3 in other games.
If you want to make a hard stop for any gy deck, the go-to is Leyline of the Void. Competitively, you will face both fast and slow gy decks, so bringing in both Bog and Journey into your SB is ineffective. 4 Leylines stop any grave shenanigans T0, which is important to us because any delay in their plan furthers our plan considerably. I used to think Bog was enough until a Goryo's Vengence player beat me in the face T3.
If anyone is testing out ssg..
Let us know how it goes. T1 cathartic or 2 lootings or a brutality... would be great if it were consistent enough
I've been goldfishing/playing versus a UW spirits deck with SSG in my dredge list for the past day or so, and it seems fun. Hands with SSG in them have super explosive turn 1 plays (SSG -> turn 1 Cathartic Reunion, or, land, neonate, discard and dredge, pitch SSG into faithless looting as the two main ways I've gotten three dredges on turn 1). The problem is that card quality in the graveyard has decreased a bit as a result; I went down a land, Haunted Dead, Rally the Peasants, and Lightning Axe. I'm enjoying it enough I'll probably try playing it at FNM this Friday, especially as I know the one person who was on Nahiri Control is/has cashed out of the deck.
So, SSG gives super explosive turn 1/2 plays, but adds extra variance of being in your hand, and can decrease graveyard card quality quite a bit depending on build. My way to try and mitigate this variance was to remove flex spots or SSG-equivalent cards for my opener, hoping that the extra turn 1/2 dredging power would increase my chance of getting to a Life from the Loam.
The problem with leyline is that if you want to play it, you must have 4 copies in the sb, that is more than 25% of your sb! I dont think that you need Leyline 25% of times during your games! Bojuka is mathematically weaker than Leyline, but it occupies only 2 slots and allows you to have a solid response by turn 3-4. Grishoalbrand and combos in general should be shut off with discard and not with grave hate, and these decks remain dredge's worst matchup, whatever sideboard you made. I think this is a right compromise, because I prefer autowin against most of tier one decks of the format (all midrange and control) and be weak to combos, which are less popular decks right now.
For me, my sideboard choices are meta-dependent. If you went to a big event and played Dredge, I'd say SB for the overall meta that you can find online. But for smaller metas, I think Leylines are good since it's a catch all for everything that uses the grave (Grixis Control, Goryo's Vengeance, mirror) that doesn't involve changing up your sideboard drastically. Besides, we only run Thoughtsieze/Duress/Collective Brutality as less than 4 ofs. You're opting for a card that makes a temporary fix some of the time vs 4 of a card that makes a permanent fix.
Again, some of these choices are meta dependent and I think Bog is a better choice vs the entire meta. However, you need to be proactively aware of your sb options and how to fight other decks that are equally as hard to interact with as we are.
Hello!
Ive recently switched over to Dredge (when you can't beat them, join them). And i must say, this deck is amazing. I have no idea how Dredge played out before Momhug, but that card is nuts in Dredge. Ive been jamming a few friendly leagues before going to competitive and my record is: 21 wins, 7 loses. My losses are no suprises, it's vs. infect, tron,(to some BGx decks, but I was unlucky with muligan here), Ad Nauseam, and a "new" deck called Suicide Bloo.
It plays out like infect, and I think it's another bad matchup for us. I sideboarded as i would vs. infect.
Even though my experience isnt much, Id gladly help to start contribute to this thread
As I started out with dredge, I was sceptical to some cards, and i just wanted to share my opinions after playing dredge: a few things to start:
I agree with going at least 20 lands. I started out with 19, but the amount of times I had to muligan due to no/to few lands were to much(even tho we can muligan aggresively)
2 Conflagrate and 2 Life from the loam is the correct amount imho.(i wanted 3 of both since i loved them both) As Lantern already mentioned, we see a lot of cards due to addition of Momhug. I just wanted +1 this.
Rally the Peasants is a neccessary evil. The amount of times this card has saved me is incountable. I honestly can't believe i wanted to cut this card from main.
Vengeful Pharaoh has been very good out of the board, I will continue to use this card.
My questions going forward:
I have one Collective Brutality in main. Is this worth the slot? It has been baws, the time I actually used it, but that's more luck than consistent(i think(?))
Are 2 Gnaw the the bone in sideboard the correct amount. Are these only viable vs. burn. Ive played burn twice and drawing one just means game over since we're pretty fast at beating down as well. Are gnaw viable in other matchups? Are there better cards for flexibility?
Any "dumb" things I've done with my list? Anything for improving? Any questions for me? I deeply apologize if ive said something very obvious or repetitive. These are my initially thoughts on the deck!
2 steam vent
4 stomping ground
