Game 1, I actually ran into a problem, I was on the draw with facing a turn 2 ooze. Ooze ate a conflag (my mana was red and dakmor, whomp whomp) so this ooze was going to stop all dredging, but luckally on my only dredge three that was left on turn 4, I hit a conflag, and managed to stop the bleeding. After that I got the ball rolling again, and won in short order.
Sided in 2 decay, 2 axes, 1 collected brutality. I liked how brutality can kill an ooze, and stop anger. Sided out a hug, a narc, 2 neonate
Game 2 I opened a bad hand, mulled, and opened a worse hand, so I kept on 6. It was still ok. didnt hit a land, and he turn 1 caged. So I scooped.
Game 3, I hit the turn 1 cage again, but I had alot of draw in my hand, so it was ok. He had removal, and a goyf, which were pretty ok with cage, and I kept drawing cards, and hitting my land drops because of loam. I cast a turn 5 troll that was 7/7 and he didnt have terminate, then followed it with a turn 6 troll, and just started attacking, I hard casted a stinkweed to sure up defences, and I just won from there. I did get to strip a damnation and kill a confidant with brutality. I dunno if it was the correct sided card. Natural state or seize mighta been better there, but I suppose it worked.
1-0
Round 2: Jund
Jund again! Well, just like before, game 1 was not easy peicey. My early dredging was less then kind to me, and eventually ended facing a kalatis with zombies out for it to eat. Great. It took some careful planning, and haunted dead did an amazing job just buying me time, but I played around the kalatis long enough to get the loam thing going, while forcing him to chump trolls. I got to the point where I had him at 7, and he could gain 5 life, so I needed to have lethal. I was at 4 cards left in the library, from really selective dredging, dredged salvage, to hit a rally and ghast, had land fall and won it clean there.
same siding as before.
game 2 was better, even though I played slow. I was conservative, fetching on his turn, leaving a ghast in the yard to dodge anger blowout. I probably could have won the game on turn 5 if I went all out, but I played it safe and won on turn 7 instead. Playing it safe was the correct move anyways. No grave hate this time... I dunno if he had ooze in hand, he only ever got 2 green sources and one of them was late. I think he had ooze based on how he played. Still I managed to beat a late game kalatis twice, so I'm pretty happy with my anti grave counters and play lately.
2-0
Round 3: Burn
I dreaded this... Time to put my money where my mouth is with the new sideboard plan. Basic idea was simple. Race game 1. Game 2, brutality to buy time, win with gnaw. Lets see how it goes.
Lose the die roll... great start. Goblin guide followed by goblin guide and lavamancer. He makes a play error here, he saw the conflag before casting the lavamancer, so he should have burned me instead of playing it. I conflag his whole team, sticking to 10 life and go to race him now. He's playing the nacatl version of burn... which I do think is overall the better burn deck, but lets us block more, meaning its better. I get to 1 life, flip over a rally and get the win at 1 life.
Couple notes on that. Rally won me the game, conflag wouldnt. I was busy conflaging the board to stay alive, that I didnt really have gas in the hand, but my rally got me there. Also, I rightfully should have lost the game, because of the lavamancer would have shocked me twice if he held it. Wasnt like the conflag was in the yard on the goblin guide trigger, but it was easily going to be.
Side in 3 brutality, 1 gnaw, out 1 ghast, 3 mom hug. I could have sided in one more probably but I didnt.
I end up playing a cool game here. The conflag the great revel came into play here, where a judge got called over, so I didnt burn myself, so that was cool. I kept it because I had a turn 2 brutality, and figured this was how it was to go. I turn 2ed it, killing off a swift spear and stripping an atarka's command and draining. I got out a ghast outta the deal, He managed to get me down to 5, and had a swift spear out and a path. I had to think long and hard here. I could try and go for stinkweed block here by casting it, but then I was dead to path the stink, bolt you, attack for 2. I could loot instead for just raw cards, or I could loam for land drops/get closer to conflaging.
I opted for looting. If he drew a bolt I was dead anyway you slice it. If I managed to loot 2 narcs, I could buy a turn. Realistically, I was losing unless I cast a gnaw. So I looted and found a narc and the gnaw. He drew a blank, so I got to block the swiftspear with the narc. I knew it was a blank because otherwise Id be dead. So I casted the gnaw for 20, went to 25, and dredged the good stuff... So game win for me.
3-0
Round 4: Suicide Zoo
Alright... I always get here in the fnm, then just roll over and die... So time to see. Open the first 7 and I have troll, troll, imp, neonate, mom hug. This game is so over.
Game 2 I sided in 2 axes, 3 brutality, 1 gnaw, 1 explosives, taking out 3 mom hugs, 2 neonates, 1 ghast.
I brutality to see a RIP. Crap. I manage to explosives, but I got nothin' and steppe lynx and shadow got me.
Game 3 I take out a rally and darkblast. Darkblast kills a lynx... not a big deal, and its clear I'm not racing. I bring in 2 decay.
Open a pretty good hand. I have brutality and decay. Brutality shows me the Rip... well I got decay this time. He checks my hand with probe and sees the decay... So I stop dreding, and he holds on to the RIP, hoping to bait the decay with big attacks, to free a RIP. I dont take the bait, but I compliment him after the match, it was the correct play. Instead, drawing and dredging when was best for me. (dredging with a land, or something to get stuff back on my turn, drawing when I didnt have that lined up.) We played that dance for a while, til it became clear I was just going to play a troll, or keep defensive stinkweeds up until I eventually out gassed him, and he played the RIP, just for the exile effect. I instant speed cast the gnaw for 10, bringing me to 23. I at this point managed to sculpt a 3 card hand, neonate, troll, and haunted dead. I neonate the huanted dead, just to insure the best hits, draw a imp, haunted dead on upkeep to enable dredge, and leverage haunted dead like lingering souls, to keep back the shadow indiffidently, while refilling the yard. takes longer than I hoped, about 3-4 turns, but hes top decking now. Sure he could pull off the battlerage on me, but I'd be able to live through it at 23 life. I add a stinkweed to defense, and start attacking in with 2 narcs and a soul (score, flying.), preping for the troll to force the chumps, but manage to get conflag online with a lethal attack.
4-0.
Overall and tweeks
This one felt great. I played against grave hate 3 outta the 4 rounds and pulled through. The sideboard worked perfectly as I meant it too and supplements the main deck. Seize maybe could be a 2nd natural state... but I think seize is right... brings my anti combo cards to 4, which is good. The burn matchup fell perfectly to my plan. Collected brutality is the ***** in some matchups, but overall, I am still VERY happy to have haunted dead in the main and no dead cards in the main (no axes, brutality in the main, having darkblast and haunted in the main)
Haunted did its job perfect. Some games it was there as a discard outlet, as I needed it, other times it was just blockers against goyf or zoo creatures. Was it ever broken? No. But I'm not seeing why people want to cut it. Its glue for the deck and is on in the grave, unlike brutality. I'd rather have a consistent main I can side out and bring in stupidly strong but narrow cards. I side out ghast and mom hug often too (which I DO think was the correct calls in those matchups, never felt bad about it.) but that doesnt mean I will cut them from the deck.
I never felt like I didnt have enablers or they were the wrong mana cost. I dont miss shriekhorn at all, or felt I needed tome scour. I missed once on mom hug (dredging 2, drawing 2) but the two cards I drew won me the game. If you all have questions as why I side when I do, feel free to ask. I could probably write a huge thing on it. Overall I dont think Id change a single card. Unless the meta shifts something big, I think I've pretty much settled on the perfect 75 for the blind or big metas.
I literally built this deck 30 mins before FNM. Went 2-2, I need to understand how to sideboard, but enjoyed playing it. Beat Jund, lost to Kiki Chord, lost to Affinity, beat Zoo. I did manage to dredge for 24 on turn 2 once, so Had some fun.
went 3-1 with dredge today placing third just after winning last week. This deck really puts up results, and not just that but people seriously hate this deck lol. I'm going to lose some friends due to this deck ahaha. Still love it though. My built was the same as last week. My only loss today was to merfolk, and that's only because my dredges were horrible. But I was able to beat grixis death shadow, bant eldrazi and grixis delver.
Spells:
4x Faithless Looting
2x Burning Inquiry
2x Cathartic Reunion
3x Conflagrate
3x Life From The Loam
1x Darkblast
Sideboard:
2x Thoughtseize
1x engineered Explosives
1x Leyline of the Void
1x Bajuka Bog
2x Ghost Quarters
2x ancient Grudge
3x Nature's claim
2x Lightning Axe
1x Gnaw to the Bone
Think it's time to take out the two thoughseize for something else like brutality or another EE and gnaw to the bone. Theres a lot of creature decks in my meta. The other side is pure tron, which is why the GQ are there, and trust me, they put in work.

Went 4-2 at a competitive event (Land Grab in Brisbane) today with Dredge. Lost to UWR Thing Ascension feat. Soulfire Grand Master 0-2, lost to the Dredge mirror match (lost the first game then went to time & drew the second game) 0-1-1, won against Jund 2-1, won against Jund 2-0, won against Elves 2-0 and won against Abzan 2-0. Decklist was pretty standard, I swapped the gargadons for leylines, phastasmagorian for haunted dead and shriekhorn for darkblast since last time I posted. Deck felt great all day - any hand that played a turn 2 reunion usually presented lethal by turn 4 so I think 4 of is mandatory for every build of dredge going forward. Also got the mythical win through turn 0 leyline by casting creatures on curve vs Abzan, Tom Ross style so I'm super stoked about that
flea1251 - personally, I think 4 mom hug is better than 2-2, it is more consistent
sideboard should be changed, as you say.. 3 claim seems to much, because in game 2 you are blind on your opponent's sideboarding so you cant risk to have 3 dead cards in your deck. For this reason, you should add 2 Decay, which is very nice. GQ aren't necessary, you can deal with your flyers against nexus, and tron is not a problem. 1 Leyline is too random, if You expext some mirrors, add the 2nd Bog. Brutality is better than thoughtseize 'cause helps a lot against infect burn, scape,ad nauseam and coco, which are your worst machups.
I can see shaving off one ghost quarter, but it saved me a few times expecially from a nahiri deck. It stopped the colonnade that was about to wreck me. what do Abrupt decays usually come in for ?
also youre right about the leyline, ill add another BOG. How many claims should be in there then?
think turn 3 conflag+bog is gg against mirror match, journey only delays the problem.. yeah it is faster than bog, and sometimes is better, but overall I prefer bog for its consistency.
yeah bog is so good, saved me against living end. and when you run greater gargadon you just keep doing it over and over when you get it back with life from the loam.

also what do you think of EE?
Nahiri is just a bye for you, and you can Stinkweed the Colonnade just in case. However, your sideboard can be like this:
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Nature's Claim
2 Abrupt Decay
2 Collective Brutality
2 Bojuka Bog
3 Lightning Axe
2 Graw to the Bone
Decay is great against BGX mainly, because is an answer to Scavenging Ooze,Grafdigger's cage,Anafenza etc.. More in general, you feel more comfortable in Game 2 adding decay to your main if you don't know exactly what your opponent is gonna board in. Decay is also insane against Rest in Peace, a card played by all white decks except Junk and Melira Company.
EE is just like decay, it is slower but feels better against Merfolks, Elves and can get rid of Cage in turn 2, it is ok,but I think 3 Axes are necessary against super aggros, and are also insane against BGx. The second Gnaw is for burn and zoo, you need to see it if you wanna stay alive.
thanks a lot for your input good sir, ill definitely try this new sideboard and see how it goes. I was usually running abrupt decays instead of EE and thoughtseize but lightning axe is good too, itll at least slow down the agro decks.

2 grudges 3 axes 1 darkblast out 4 moms (cursecatcher) 1 haunted (no need flyer) 1 narcomoeba (same reason)
yeah the darkblast is already mainboarded , since theres like three infect decks, and turn one mana dorks in my meta

Hi everyone, I have played more withe the deck and I am wondering if Dakmor Salvage is worth it anymore. I find it is awkward when I draw it because it doesn't Loot or Neonate T1 and doesn't curve into T2 Reunion if you have a 1 mana enabler. I never find myself dredging it back, just Loam if I have the chance. What does everyone think of cutting them for 2 Blackcleave (already on 4 Gorge) or am I just using the card wrong?
Ive been fine with one main board and thats all. I hit it when I need too toolboxing, i probably would run more if there was was like nothing but infect/mana dorks in my area, but since its pretty much a fair mix of all the tier 1/2 decks, I stay with one.
Anyways. Sorta rule of thumb for siding is skimming the package cutting whatz bad in the matchs and replace whats really good, keeping in mind you want to cut enablers for enablers, dredge for dredge, pay off game enders for game enders. So no exsct numbers here, unleas you wanted an exact sideboard guide of my most recent version. Just what works in my experance. This w9nt be bridge versions, theres alot of cases you side out that whole package. This is in cutting order.
Affinity-
Out:ghasts, neonate, mom hug, rally, neonate, mom hug, haunted dead.
In: grudge, darkblast, axe, explosives, gnaw, natural state, decay.
Brutality sucks here. Youll never strip anything. 1 gnaw never any more. Gnaw isnt a way to win, its a way to go back to healthy after securing control of the game. Huanted dead is actually good for blocks, dont side it out if you dont have better cards to bring in. Ghast doent block and you wont win a race.
Jund-
Out: darkblast, neonate, neonate, rally, narc, mom hug
In axe, decay, seize, natural state, grudge brutality
Axe and decay can win this matchup. They have the most split hate on us, so those are the best. Again, haunted dead flys over their stuff (yes its important in grinds) and blocks strong starts from them, gives us more anger protection, and more bodies against removal. People vastly under estimate her. Discard is what id do 5th and 6th add in. Rally is worse because they will use removal often.
Infect-
Out-neonate, mom hug, ghast, mom hug, rally, neonate, ghast.
In: darkblast, brutality, explosives, axe, decay, 1 grudge.
This is one of the times darkblast is basically.broken. blockers all all good hhere since people cut distortion strike and blessing for blooming. Ghasts not so good, narcs and haunted are stupidly good. brutality is huge, because even if they pump. It strips a lot of gas. Explosives set to 1. Axe 5 is usually more than enough but try to aim decay and axe after pumps or on your turn or tapped out. Early conflags MUST be for 3, youll be mutageniced.
Junk-
Same as jund, but they rely on anafenza instead of anger.
Mirror-
Out: darkblast, loam, dakmor
In: void, bog/journey
Its the mirror. Ita a coinflip so race.
Burn-
Out: mom hug, mom hug, rally, dark blast, ghast mom hug.
In: gnaw, brutality... thats probably it. Maybe something like axe.
Conflag buys you a turn or 2, gnaw wins the game. You can kill edilon with conflag for no damage, narcs should block all the time.
Ad nuseam-
Out: darkblast, mom hug, mom hug, haunted dead, narc, mom hug, conflag
In: thoughtseize, collected brutality, natural state, grduge, decay.
Seize and brutality strip away ad nuseam. Brutality kills them with an angels grace too. Natural state kills mana rocks and unlife. Grudge kills mana rocks. Killing lotus in upkeep stops the combo with unlife.
Storm-
Out: darkblast, haunted dead, mom hug, mom hug.
In: seize, brutality, leyline, journy/bog, natural state, decay.
Natural state thoughtsieze, brutality and bog all kill off the enablers (ascention and electromancer) and journey can snag manamorphs.
Sucide zoo-
Out: darkblast, rally, mom hug, neonate, ghast mom hug, ghast, neonate
In: brutaility, explosives, decay, axe, 1 gnaw.
Brutality does all we want it too. Kills lynx or spear, sometimes a nacatl or shadow, strips battle rage or become, and gains life. Explosives and decay just kill every thing. Axe can be bested here, but its passable. Narcs and haunted take blocking duty
Im almost tempted to say dont side anything. Dodge anger and re side game 3 if you see what hate they use. Matchup is basically a free win for us. Hoestly i devote no brain power to planning aideboard cards against control. They have to do so much to even hope to win.
Kiki chord-
Out: rally, huanted dead, mom hug, narc.
In: brutality, axe, decay
Brutality and darkblast will do the bulk of your work, with conflag cleaning up after blocks really well. Axes are good for anafenza ooze or instant speed combo breaking. Too many blockers for rally
Melera combo-
Same as kiki.
Tron-
Out: darkblast, haunted dead,
In: thoughtseize, ghost quarter, grudge.
Not.much you can side in. Grudge hits their rot rocks, and helps with wurmcoil on blocks. If you see ugin you probably lose. Dont over extend into ugin, maybe keep ghasts in the yard.
Bant eldrazi
Out: haunted dead, neonate, neonate, rally
In: darkblast, vengeful pheroah, lightning axe, decay
Its never going to be aa good matchup. Best to just race.
Titanahift
Out: darkblast, haunted, mom hug.
In: brutaility, seize,
Anger is their only real hate for us. Strip it and race
Merfolk-
Out: rally, haunted dead, narc, mom hug, neonate, ghast
In: explosives, decay, grudge, axe
Explosives and decay kill seas as well enabling blocks. Conflag for scaling amounts kill lords and fish. (3/2/1 for example) grudge hits rot rocks and vial
Living end
Out: darkblast
In: leyline, journey/bog, seize/brutality
Its actually pretty easy. Either they go off and you have grave hate so you win. They dont go off and you win. You split your stuff in the yard so living end does nothing when cast, or they buy a turn by wiping and you win after.
Leyline of the void is their only real shot at us and you just accept the leyline beats.

Its one of those peices people argue over, like huanted dead or darkblast. Its just glue for the deck. The pros outweigh the cons. Does it stink as a turns 1 or 2 lands? Yeah. But when you need to dredge sometimes you need every option you can, and dredge 2 is better than nothing. Ive used it a lot. Its best to use when you dont have the extra mana to use for other stuff while recurring ghasts or land dropping to get troll
Hey guys would just like to say thanks for keeping dredge page active and posting your well written play by plays. The meta is evolving and so are the players. I like to see what's been working and why.
Ive seen earlier there's a bridges/gargadon build and was wondering if gargadon is still a thing or a completetely abandoned tech for our meta.
Lantern your sideboard tech was great. Good input.

Good input.
Garg builds are much more explosive, but also much more inconsistent. In general, the most competitive lists have dropped Garg for a while, because we're already explosive enough and consistency is what we need.
The guide I wrote was more about the idea behind it then a cheat sheet. If I have time Ill post up my guide at somepoint, since I gotta write it down for me anyways. Realistically some subs just make sense. Mom hug discards 2 and dredge. Collected brutality discards 2 and does the intended sided effect. Neonate discards and dredges, lightning axe discards and does the side effects. Rally flashes back for game ending effects at 3 mana, so does gnaw to the bone.
They all make sence for subbing one for another. Its better to get why to side rather than siding blindly.
As far as bridge builds, you just cant break it. The problem was never getting it into the yard, its the sac effect. Until we get better versions of those that work in our style, bridge will always be fair not broken.
Legacy has cabal theorpy and dread return and ichicord. Thats 4+4+(4×3) sac effects 20 sacs, 3-4 bridges, thats 60-80 zombies... leathal is basically infinate. Modern best we have is garadon, at 10 which barely makes leathal, and a big dude... but you have to have it in hand.
I personally wont play it until I have a good sac oulet from the yard. Tymaret, the murder king ALMOST gets there... if it recured to play, id be there but it doesnt. Nim devourer doesnt quite cut it
I haven't played it out enough. It looks fragile. Again , I'm used dredging in legacy and try to get your kill shot as quick as possible so rally the peasants is huge. Not sure why we aren't collectively agreeing on more than 2 slots for this. dont give them a chance to see what the deck can do. Just end it.
Also a lot of sideboarding I see lantern has opted to cut momhug altogether. the sideboard tech posted is great. I will tinker more with this suggestions. I'm not crazy about brutality or disruption and would rather react with siding in decay and claims. I won't know until I test it.
Yeah. Dredge is most certainly a combo deck in legacy. In modern its an aggro deck. An unfair one for sure, but its still an aggro deck, and races and needs to play more like affinity than storm

Round 1: Jund

I can see shaving off one ghost quarter, but it saved me a few times expecially from a nahiri deck. It stopped the colonnade that was about to wreck me. what do Abrupt decays usually come in for ?

Its one of those peices people argue over, like huanted dead or darkblast. Its just glue for the deck. The pros outweigh the cons. Does it stink as a turns 1 or 2 lands? Yeah. But when you need to dredge sometimes you need every option you can, and dredge 2 is better than nothing. Ive used it a lot. Its best to use when you dont have the extra mana to use for other stuff while recurring ghasts or land dropping to get troll
