Hey guys, visiting from Boggles here. Had to play 5 twin decks at a gp, disliked it ever sense. That said, sorry to see it go. Keep playing magic, and maybe I'll see you around.
No one is happy to see Boggles, it's one of the most goldfish decks in the format
Turn 1: hex proof guy
turn 2: rancor/totem armor and swing
turn 3: Ignore everything you do and do the same stuff I did on turn 2 and swing
Don't have a board wipe or EE? Ok.
This is exactly the type of Magic I don't want to see running around rampant
Hey guys just wanna say that this ban really isnt as bad for you former twin players as a lot of you are making it out to be. Because of the ban you now have 10 or so cards that are now useless garbange (4 twin, 4 deciever, 2 pestermite), but all the money cards and the core power of the deck is still legal and in tact. Perhaps the best method to deal with this ban is to construct a U/R/X tempo/control deck, as twin decks often just turn into this type of strategy after game 1 anyways against certain matchups/ At the end of the day you still have snapcasters, lightning bolts and other amazing cards that are capable of becoming a tier 1 strategy, its just gonna take some adaptation to fill the empty slots that the combo left. I mean the power behind the splinter twin deck was never just the combo in my personal opinion but instead the strong tempo plays that the deck was capable of doing.

There's no 2 mana spell, RG Tron Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger now makes the long game VERY inevitable for us
Hyper aggro will happen
Our expensive core shell will drop dramatically without a good control deck
They didn't unban a single control card with the ban announcement

It doesn't leave anyone feeling very confident
Adapt or perish.
People will adapt, by moving to an aggro-linear deck/combo

The deck was good because it worked on the fear of combo. Without that fear, it's an extremely mediocre tempo deck that will hover in T2-T3 until new cards are printed or new ideas found. The shell is NOT that good without Twin.

And I hate seeing Twin as my opponent whenever I use my Bogles deck, will now move my Suppression Field to the SB and switch them up with MB Leyline of Sanctity since I fear a BGx and Bx Eldarazi decks increase. I really hate this ban, when I finally invested in a Tier 1 deck and said to myself no more buying a new deck since I have one of the pillars of modern as a deck then they did this, pisses me off. @_@
As a Lantern pilot, I'm sorry about your loss I actually thought the Twin/Lantern matchup was one of the most skill intense matchups I've ever played, and I can understand the amount of monetary loss you all have faced now too. Just wanted to chime in and give my condolences. I wish you all luck in transforming your shells into something that might survive

This is well said and a very valid point. As for monetary value, this ban didn't hut UR too bad, the rest of the cards WILL see play.
Do not be mistaken by my words. I think this ban is going to move the format into an unhealthy direction. But as far a viable deck building goes, UR will survive so don't be butt hurt about it for too long. The twin ban will hurt the format more then the deck itself. I'm sure many will argue and debate, but that's temporary bitterness.
Lets just hope it doest warp the format as much as I'm afraid of. And buy your Crumble to Dust. Its going to be a long year vs torn.
Its a bit early to talk prices, but many of the cards in twin were so expensive because they were in twin. While cards like scalding tarns or snapcaster mages are still played in other shells, we're about to see a lot more people selling them (getting rid of a deck they're no longer playing) than people buying them, since no one will start making twin anymore. If a new u/r based deck springs up and is strong enough, it may keep the prices up, but I suspect a good deal of the pieces will drop a good deal just from everyone selling out before they stabilize near what they currently are.
Nonetheless, we shall see what that new u/r deck will be, I'm sure no shortage of people will try to come up with something new (or something old) but the existance of the combo did a lot of work for this (no longer)current shell. Perhaps jeskai will thrive again, or some sort of tempo-temur, but they will certainly not be the same deck.
Disappointing to say the least that Splinter Twin got banned. One of my all time favorite decks in modern, it's hard to say what the future of control has in modern. I am thinking of just changing my Twin shell to Grixis control with perhaps a little more board hate on G/R Tron and Affinity which will no doubt in my mind be dominating at the Pro Tour in the coming weeks.
I agree with Cody_X in that although the prices for Scalding Tarn & Snapcaster Mage won't plummet a huge amount, they will be nonetheless be hurt until control can find a new deck to compensate for the loss of Splinter Twin. Heck at my LGS I've already seen people dumping their twin and other key pieces to the deck.
im on kiki chord now. rip blue. rip modern. this format is a joke noow

Sorry for you guys. As a former kiki pod player, I know the feeling. Now you can leave this here or try to make something with what you have. The last option is how I started the kiki chord thread
I don't think jamming kikis instead of twins will work: by threatening the combo a full turn later we lose the tempo advantage that the twin gave us. For instance, an opponent with 3 mana, liliana and decay in hand might choose to not play his lili facing 3 mana for fear of the combo. With kiki instead of twin, our opponent turn 3 on the draw is now threatened anymore. So we will have to deal with styff like lili, knight of the reliquary or other strong 3 drops way earlier than we had to.
The abimity to threaten combo early in the game to help develop our control plan was what I felt was the steongest in twin. I personnaly think im going towards either URx blue moon or full patriot control (no kiki, maybe team geist).
Good luck to those trying out stuff with kiki though
