The reason a lot of people like bolt is that during the combo turn it only costs R and it adds a storm plus reduces the amount of spells to kill your opponent by 3, and 6 if you have an active ascension.

I've been told the the copies from ascension don't count towards storm count.
If i'm been told wrongly that wold be great.
Also "Anger of the gods" is a good card, if you see a lot of wide decks. Likewise for "pyroclasm" .
What I am saying is when you cast a bolt it is a spell you have cast, thus adding a spell towards storm count. A bolt to the face reduces the amount of storm by 3 since that is now 3 less storm required to kill with grapeshot, a bolt cast with a active ascension copies and if both are sent to the face then that is 6 damage i.e 6 less copies of grapeshot needed to kill.
Copies off ascension in fact do not get cast, so it is correct that they do not add to the storm count.
I would definitely say that anger of the gods is better as exiling can be relevant and the 3rd damage can be relevant, vs affinity it will handle all of their creatures and also costs 1 less than shatterstorm which can be fine.
It would be pretty similar to the normal board but I would go up to four copies of Empty. Both eldrazi and jund are very soft to empty. Against infect there isn't a ton we can do. You could try playing some number of sweepers like Anger of the gods or pyroclasm or electrickery (probably this one). If there is actually no affinity then a board like this is probably best:
I would also like to make room for a single copy of Echoing Truth but it isn't always necessary. The best cut for Truth is probably the 4th empty because it can be difficult to actually get 4 copies in afterboard.
I use pithing needle to shut down Grishoalbrand, normally, and some times planeswalker (liliana vs jund, jace vs grixis, ajani vs wur etc)but I never put it in G2 and G3 if I didnt see a valid enough target.
It is doable but really hard. Especially against anything with the clock of eldrazi.
I managed to beat merfolk when they cast chalice on 1. They spent thier second turn to cast it and not a lord. Then I got asscention online by casting 1 cmc spells into the chalice. Rituals, manamorphose desperate ravings, past in flames grapeshot. You can still cast the cards just for storm once you go off like that. Still I'd say I really was lucky that game.
Alright. Was thinking this deck might be the secret tech against Eldrazi, but if it's that hard to beat their maindeck hate against you it probably isn't.
How soft is this deck to Chalice of the Void for 1? Half the deck costs 2, could it sustain itself off that?
I think if i used my version of Gift Storm, there's a chance. But the fast clock the eldrazi decks present is gonna be a problem too.. The 1-mana cantrips are just for redundancy, once u found enough rituals and your win con, it's good to go.
Even without ascension chalice on one is beatable, it is just trivial with ascension. Our pif loop part of the combo is usually all 2CMC spells, and the only reason chalice on one usually hurts is because of our cantrips. If we don't have the combo it delays us getting it, if we already have it, it does nothing. You can still cast spells into chalice for storm as well.

Why is Shivan Reef better than Sulfur Falls for this deck? Won't you usually be fetching an island or a mountain the first turn, after which Sulfur Falls will come into play untapped?

at worst case scenario, with only shivan reef in your opening hand as a land, u can still reliably cast your cantrips and Faithless Looting.
On the other hand, if Sulfur Falls is the only land in your opening hand, u can't do anything.
The deck runs on very little lands already. So chances of hitting a 1-land hand is relatively high compared to other decks

And the deck is built so, that you have to keep one landers with a cantrip (if the rest of the hand isn't bad).
Just to introduce myself, I´ve been playing storm for a bit less than a year now, always running Finkel´s stock list. I´ve just started to make some SB modifications, so it can fit better my local meta. I have also been reading this thread for a long time, always trying to learn new things, such more optmal plays and new trends.
So, some days ago I found this deck: http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=11485&d=265246&f=MO
The guy maindecks 2 Blood Moons and a Simian Spirit Guide, so he can cast a Blood Moon on one. In a match against most of the meta, it is a free win, especially agains the Eldrazi.
I have not tested it, and ofc it may be very inconsistent. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it
So I'm playing a modern tournament tomorrow and I plan on playing Storm. But I can't find my Blood Moon's. I know I'm at a huge disadvantage not having this card, but I don't have any other deck readily available so I'm just gonna deal with it. Is there any other sideboard cards you would recommend, not necessarily to replace Blood Moon, cause there's nothing that can replace it, but to help out with matches that Blood Moon is good in.
Any thoughts?

Generally in this deck empty is better than young pyromancer.
Personally I would play anger if I played either, if you have a heavy creature meta it is fine in the sideboard.
