I feel that the issue with bob and lavaman is simple, they aren't haste creatures that do damage at once. I think lavaman is much better for a burn deck to give it reach, but lavaman is just a bad draw, if you need a burn spell, and I can see bob having that same issue. As a burn player, I feel that every card in our deck should deal damage at once.
I agree, proactive cards are best for this deck. It's easy to get sucked into playing cards that are generally good for other decks, but our deck's strategy is very particular.
I always think of Lavamancer as being a pre-boarded sideboard card, since it is extremely good in the matchups you want (and those matchups are common), but versatile enough that it isn't a dead card in the weaker matchups.
Interesting side note: Lavamancer vs Bob is a pretty apt comparison. Lavamancer essentially "draws" you extra burn spells if you get to untap with him. If we did a statistical breakdown of average damage drawn from Bob, I wouldn't be surprised if 2 damage was about on par (given some draws will be lands). Except Lavamancer is guaranteed live "draw" on untap, can get around counter magic, can always hit creatures, is not going to help people race you, doesn't require a splash, and costs 1 less mana to cast.
lol you know who I miss? Lavaman's evil twin, Deathrite. I wish he was still around to play with, I used him on my burn deck back when he was legal and I liked his versatility, and additional reach. Also he would help against the mirror by just gaining back some life if needed.
Also I wanted to know what you guys think about this card for Side boarding, Dash Hopes. How about Murderous Cut, as an alternative to white's Path to Exile.
I might be remembering wrong, and I'll take any advice I can get on SBing, as I know it's a weak part of my game.
Seems solid. I like your choices for the most part. I'd probably not board in helix vs infect, as generally damage is irrelevant. Also, not sure I like bringing in Grace vs Twin, but I can see the reasoning. I think vs them I'd rather have the Blazes to clear our random Snapcasters blocking my Goblins. I think Li Shi Tian said he boarded in his Molten Rains in PT Fate to try to keep twin off combo longer. Not sure I like that plan, but he's a much better player than me. Thanks for the info.
I don't neccesarily disagree with bringing in helix off the board vs infect. It's a could switch for boros charm since its one more targeted burn spell to snipe their creatures.

Murderous cut only if you arent running lavamancer. And it still might be questionable because it needs fuel. Ask yourself how fast you need the kill spell. Vs infect you need it right away. Vs twin time is not as important. If you were going to use black you could even consider a doomblade. It costs one more but all of your targets are non black anyways (same goes for ultimate price, nothing you need to kill is multicolored). Those are really just more budget options compared with path. If you have the path I would say use it.
General question for the forum. Is SB in your path to exile wise in the mirror? Its my only way to interact with kor firewalker.
Actually, against Infect we have Lightning Bolt, Searing Blaze, etc... Murderous Cut is, in my opinion, a fine replacement for PtE in the black splash. It kills Kor firewalkers, and by the time twin can go off it's most likely that we have more than 4 cards in our GY. The only disadvantage of MC is to get rid off a Wurmcoil Engine.
Using MC it's not budget, it just respond to a especific splash, if you're using black and not white, you can't use PtE, and vicerversa. I play Jund Burn, becouse i like it more, but i have all the cards to make the white splash. Saying that the use of one card over other it's just a budget options seems a little narrow without a context. I use MC all the time and it works fine against most decks. Just fails the Wurmcoil test, as i sayd before.
sorry for my inglish.

the best 2cc kill is go for the throat, since spellskite cant redirect them.
against mirror i play the control role, so i take out damage to the player, and bring more creature kill, so yes, i bring path in the mirror.
Is it even worth running Kor Firewalker in the 75? Burn doesn't play any basic plains, so you're basically going to be fetching into shock for WW, which is very detrimental in the mirror.
I'd suggest that it is not, but others disagree. What colours to run is a point of contention, and may be a playstyle preference thing. I prefer Jund burn, to frame my opinion. Others that prefer Naya etc likely prefer it based partially on this disagreement.

So I just watched the Magic Show with Brad and Evan going over the set review stating Atarka's Command is meh even in regards to modern. I wish I could make pie bets with them. I am so glad there are people doubting how great this card is.

It is just another skullcrack, one where you have to splash a color for but since Burn is already splashing green, why not test it out and try it? I have been trying it out with proxys and its been great so far. I think it could be a great sideboard card. Its not the best for burn, but fast zoo will benefit from the card more. Besides that, I like how the command can help pump your swiftspears when needed. If you have an extra land in your had or draw one, you can always put another on the field, and cast another burn spell, that will also pump your swiftspear. Its just better then skullcrack when needed. I am just not sure if a 3 color splash would be good and balanced for burn.
Turn 1: Swiftspear= 1 Damage
Turn 2: Atarka's Command Option: Buff Swiftspear with reach or Land Drop + Burn Spell or Creature = 6 Damage or 8 Damage

yes yes and 1000 times yes.
I can understand disagreeing on this "in theory", but in practice?? kor firewalker own the mirror, i insist, in dailies i have a 6/2 record against mirror, and the loses where to not seing kor firewalker once, and to a perfect draw for the oponent being on the play.
if opponent dont play a t1 creature, then you go tapped shock, doing 4 damage to yourself with kor firewalker, that not that bad, but even 6 damage to yourself is still good, kor firewalker is the best card in the mirror (i believe better than leyline).
dont take my word, look the best burn decklist, they all are RWg and run firewalker for a reason, results speak for themselves.
pd: when you have kor firewalker you take the control role of the match, so you dont shock yourself that much.
seem pretty good, but a couple of personal choices:
-searing blaze is nuts, is a double lightning bolt in one card!! you want 4 between main and SB.
-4 kor firewalker seems overkill, i would take out 1
-not sold on shattering spree, yes owns the affinity match, but i dont know if is playable against something else.
-torpor orb is great choice against twin and soul sister, i need a couple XD.
i would made the following changes in the SB.
-1 kor firewalker
-1 shattering spree
+2 searing blaze (they are good against the mirror/affinity/infect/merfolk...)
pd: if you can, add 2 more red fetchs and drop 2 mountain in main.

I agree with what's been said, and I also noticed Atarka's Command doesn't require a target, so it can ignore leyline of sanctity. I think it's totally worth the splash.
Here's my new decklist in preparation for DTK! I've found 10 fetches to be perfect along with 5 basics to mitigate land damage. Still haven't figured out if i should do a 2/2 split with Stomping ground and sacred foundry, or just remove a basic mountain for a single basic Forest. Also might take out lavamancer for a 3'ed Skullcrack MB. Overall Thoughts/Suggestion??
