During a board stall when both players life are low, and our creatures are facing blockers.. the revolution gives us an advantage because the opponent can't kill our artifacts without losing health. A memnite with a plating on it is sure to die, an etched champion with a plating that runs into an eldrazi or a mutavault is sure to die. We get those back unless the opponent pays life.. which is hard to do when in low life total. Well, just theorycrafting for now... needs some actual testing.
Seriously thinking if this card should be replacing a thoughtcast or a land in my list. More possibly the land, since I run 17. Cutting a Thoughtcast feels bad... have recovered from some bad situations because of the draw 2.
Seems reasonable, but I think I would not cut a land for this, because Pia's Revolution is a 3 drop which is top of the curve for this deck, and the number of 3 drops to put in the deck is fairly limited, I think.
Not enough dredge hate, and Ravenous trap has proven to be better sideboard against dredge. I played 3 at WMC (dredge was everywhere), I'd play at least 2 now.
And about Pia's Revolution I see it at least as a great sideboard card against BGx and URx, specially Jund and Grixis.
I have to reconsider my first assessment on this card. After some testing it is indeed strong. Creeping Corrosion, Conflagrate.. or any other sweeper that will kill 5 or more artifacts cannot be profitably cast anymore on a developed board presence if this enchantment is around.
It is a bad topdeck after we already got board wiped. However, having it in play before we get board wiped is amazing. Hmm, but still in doubt if Pia's Revolution is a card for the main.. because not every deck out there has sweeper. Maybe have two in the sideaboard? What are other people's experiences in testing the card?
Ravenous Trap seems fine, but isnt it pretty much the same as Crypt, except it doesnt help turn on opals or add to the artifact count, the only advantage i see is that it cant be destroyed by Grudge.
But ill think I may cut a whipflare and throw a trap in there. Do you think 3 hate cards will be enough?
My thoughts on pia revolution is 1 in main board and 1 in sideboard. Main board, it helps with ravager sac. Sideboard, help to improve win rate against grindy match up. Affinity do not block well. Pia revolution helps us to block and potentially deal them damage. A good example will be they are at 7 life, they have a big goyf swinging at us and we are behind in damage race due to a sweeper or removal earlier on.n ow our ornithopter and memnite or even signal pest can keep blocking them and recur which force them to choose to pay life which will be in range of a blast.
Against fast decks, it can be board out for our SB cards or to help us grind till we can come back from behind.
The thing about dredge is that they are just faster than us, we shouldn't really focus on our sinergies. Trap is more powerful against them since it gets harder for a dredge deck to play around it profitably. But as I said, dredge was everywhere at WMC at rotterdam, so it may not be a real example, you can go for crypt since it is viable against other gy strategies.
Yeah seems that Pia's Revolution is some kind of optional tech for grindier metas, but is probably misplaced in a aggro heavy meta. 1 MB and one additional in the side seems like a solid plan for this kind of grindy meta. At least to start testing with.
I feel like Pia's Revolution is to Kataki like what Ghirapur Aether Grid is to Stony Silence.
Effect-wise it is much more explosive and potent than the Grid, but it is also way more reactive than the Grid (4 Ravagers does not instantly make the card active the same way Grid does in the deck), so I feel like those factors balance each other out. They're also 2R nonartifacts.
However that being said, the potency of the card plus the ease of causing it to react (even if it is reactive) does warrant it some major testing in the mainboard. Definitely not more than 1-of, because it's still a 3cmc card (the whole Mox Opal loop only works when it lands, so it's a moot point in terms of casting it). The issue is whether it is either worth raising the overall CMC of the deck (should Blast/Thoughtcast move out for it), or worth the loss of an artifact (if Master/Champion moves out for it). Affinity has always been a delicate balance of artifact-count as well as low-cast cost, so while the card is actually potent, is there a balance in the deck for it to work?
I think it would go in the thoughtcast spot as it doubles in as a threat or card advantage. So far it works in goldfishing...
If it works out, i am swapping overseers for Bomat courriers because that interaction is sexy. Sac courrier, get cards, get courrier back to attack next turn. Or bolt them.
See this strikes me as more the route to go for this card to be good.
A question for those who have faced the Amulet Titan matchup. I know that this it's sort of a fringe deck, and not encountered often but I need a bit of help in this. Most of the time I could handle the titan, but their hive mind is hard to deal with. Do we just try to race this matchup and hope they don't use the hive mind kill?

A neat trick I know against this is using your spell pierce in order to counter your own copy of the pact. Note though that the opponent also gets a copy of Spell Pierce for which you have to be able to pay, so that he can't counter your own spell pierce. However, this is only offsetting hive mind a bit, but if you get to attack for lethal next turn or so its worth it.
With stubborn denial this is a bit more tricky, because it has to be non ferocious for the opponent, which means the opponent mustn't have a titan in play. Otherwise your own stubborn denial will be countered by the copy. But you would only have to pay an extra 1 mana as opposed to spell pierce if it works out.
Other than that, I think Thoughtseize could help, but this is all something I wouldnt bet for. I would try to kill them as fast as possible.
Thanks for the reply. Looks like you have some experience against that deck. On the cards you've recommended, the only one I have on hand is Spell Pierce, so will go with that. My affinity uses 17 land, so will have enough mana to pay the 2 of the pierce created by the hive mind. Sometimes the person I'm playtesting with would have bad hands, and I kill them with no problem. But when he has the good hand.. it's like I'm facing a tier 1 combo deck. Not easy to win with regular damage because of firespout, baloth, and the land that gives life when enter the battlefield.. sorry forgot the name of the land, their deck is made up of many lands that are not often seen in Modern.

You mean radiant fountain. I do have experience playing it but appearantly not with Affinity. I used to play against the deck with Merfolk and pulled this trick off with my Cursecatcher which works awesomely well, as sacrificing the creature will not generate another copy of the counter effect. So by doing so you can easily counter your own copy and not pay the cost. With Spell Pierce its not that convenient but still manageable with enough mana. Its at least something worth having in mind when playing against the deck.
So the RPTQ went well, I top 4ed and got the invite to Dublin.
The list I went with had maindeck 4 Etched Champion, 1 MOE, 1 Spellskite. I can post the entire list later if anyone is interested.
Round 1: R/W Prison 2-0
Game 1, he had some removal such as bolt and helix but I eventually beat his down with an Inkmoth.
Game 2, opponent played Blood moon which isnt very good and I won with Etched Champion.
Round 2: Jeskai Nahiri 2-1
Game 1, I mulled to 6 and he had all the answers, then used Nahiri ult for Emrakul.
Game 2, opponent mulled to 5, T2 Etched, T3 plating and that game was over quickly.
Game 3, opponent mulls to 5 again, appearently keeping a hand with Supreme verdict and drew another. I had 2 Inkmoths with signal pest and won through poison.
Round 3: Grixis Kiki 2-1
Game 1, he mana leaks plating, bolts overseer, then drew too many cantrips and Skirge+Blinkmoth beat him down
Game 2, He K commands, then spell snare, then Izzet charm. He then cast snapcaster on spell snare and Kiki Jiki, for the rest of the game he was copying Spancaster for any answer he need and beat me down with the mages.
Game 3, opponent mulls to 5, I get double ravager and he didnt have enough answers.
Round 4: Eldrazi Tron 2-1
Game 1, T2 Ornithopter swinging with a plating and he couldnt do much.
Game 2, he gets chalice on 0 then chalice on 2. He had multiple dismembers and Endbringers.
Game 3, I get double ravager plus blinkmoth and was too fast for him.
Round 5 and 6 I intentional Draw into Top 8.
Top 8: Jeskai Prowess 2-1
Game 1, he gets stormchaser mage+Mantis Rider and I didnt have enough flying blockers or removal, so he rolls me.
Game 2, I get and early Etched Champion and go plating, plating.
Game 3, I keep a hand of Blinkmoth, Glimmervoid, Vault Skirge, Galvanic Blast, Arcbound Ravager, Steel Overseer, and Cranial Plating. He paths Spellskite and bolts Overseer, Bolts Ravager and Helix on Skirge. It was looking really bad for me when I was at 6 life and oppenent at 11, I had a couple Blinkmoth and an Memnite on Board with Blast in hand. Opponent had a Mantis Rider.
I try to Blast mantis Rider and he saves it with Mutagenic Growth, I swing with Memnite and the 2 Blinkmoth bringing Him to 8. Then cast Etched Champion.
Next turn he attacks with Mantis Rider, im at 3. Next turn I draw Vault Skirge, swing with Etched he goes to 6.
I am at this point dead to many of his draws, he draws goblin guide, I draw a Blinkmoth off of the guide trigger, I block Rider with Skirge and Guide with Blinkmoth, then pump blinkmoth to trade, I go to 4.
Now I am hoping for plating for the win but I draw a Citadel, I swing with Etched he goes to 4. He whiffs again, swings with Rider, I chump with Blinkmoth. Still 4-4.
I draw another Citadel, swing with Champion, he goes to 2. He draws another goblin guide, attacks with guide and Rider, I block Rider with the Blinkmoth and block guide with memnite.
On the last turn I draw Springleaf Drum, swing with Etched Champion 1 more time to deal the final 2 points, and he extends his hand in concession.
Congratulations on the top 4! Please do share your list.

4x Binkmoth Nexus

4x Glimmervoid
1x Mountain
4x Mox Opal
4x Springleaf Drum
4x Cranial Plating
3x Galvanic Blast
1x Welding Jar
4x Vault Skirge
4x Ornithopter
4x Signal Pest
4x Arcbound Ravager
4x Steel Overseer
3x Etched Champion
2x Master of Etherium
2x Memnite
Sideboard:
2x Ancient Grudge
1x Chalice of the Void
1x Etched Champion
1x Tormod's Crypt
1x Grafdigger's Cage
1x Dismember
2x Ghirapur Aether Grid
1x Blood Moon
1x Thoughtsieze
2x Whipflare
2x Spellskite
The meta I am expecting includes, Infect, Dredge, RG Valakut, Eldrazi, Jund.
As for the maindeck, im not sure if welding jar is correct, I also considered a Spellskite or the third Memnite.
For the sideboard, i feel like im forgetting something, maybe 1 Whipflare is enough and maybe 2 Thoughsieze is correct.
What do you all think? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely kidding.
Well, yeah, I am. But it would be fun.
