It looks very resilient, but I question the logic behind no Springleaf drum with 8 colored spells. What do you guys think? Is this the way moving forward?
Hmmm, there are some things I like and things that REALLY confuse me. I've cut 1 springleaf and wonder if that was over the top, but to forego any while playing sets of thoughtcast and blast seems to leave wayyyy too much variance in your mana base. Especially running just 16 lands(no basics) and a bloodmoon in the side...and no whipflare? Though, it seems to have worked here, i'd be very nervous to run that list.
On the other hand, I think now is the time to start experimenting more with Hangarback Walker in the main. With all the hate going around combined with its resilience, it can really screw with opponents removal and hate. Has anyone else been running it, and if so, how many? I'll be piloting affinity tonight for a LGS FNM running mana leak and spell pierce MB. I think the deck is still really viable in the meta, just has to be tuned right...
i usually don't like running too many counters .. let alone mb... being fast in the first game is most important especially when playing against ppl who don't know what you're on.... that alone will net you way more game 1 wins than a counter would...
i like hangarback walker and think it's ok as a one of... it's a really good card against jund where you need as many 2 for 1s as possible... against jeskai it's not so great due to path and anger but i think it's slightly better than steel overseer in that matchup...
I would generally agree, but the current meta is as broad as it has ever been. As long as you're running 25+ creatures (not including manlands), I feel totally fine having a spell pierce or mana leak in hand to throw a wrench in someone's chord, CoCo, some-other-combo-piece, than a 4th overseer- which I think is too slow right now and a giant removal magnet. Plus after the first turn, people will know exactly what you're playing. What they don't generally worry about is tapping out for something pre-board. Right now it feels like it evens out our bad matches game 1 more than it hurts matches we would already be ahead in.

Take States winning lists with a grain of salt. If you go digging through lists you will find all sorts of crap people have put together and gotten on a hot streak. 8 color spells on 8 sources is just 100% wrong and if you play enough games you will find it doesn't work.
What do you guys think of this "white" winning affinity list? Especially thoughts on Ethersworn Cannonist, 2 dispatches + 4 galvanics main and 1 island in MB even though he plays more red and white spells?
I'm not sold on the Red Affinity list. Yes, it would be more explosive than Etched Champions if we get those early casts in the game, but at the same time it makes those openings a lot more vulnerable to Pyroclasm/Anger of the Gods which plenty of people run (even MB) due to aggro-expectations.
Steel Overseer by itself is a glass cannon of sorts and a build around enhancing it turns the entire deck into a more fragile glass cannon than it already is - there's a reason why the higher-cost cards in the deck (Etched Champion and Master of Etherium) are all cards designed to survive as opposed to just aggro (well Master does both, but it's also more vulnerable to removal to in exchange and is why it being a 4-of is almost unthinkable as opposed to 4-of Etched Champions).
Steel Overseer is also one of the components of the deck shut down completely by Stony Silence (the other is Cranial Plating, but it's powerful and fast enough with just 1 creature to warrant the risk). While Pia and Kiran Nalaar isn't affected by Stony Silence, neither is Ghirpur Aether Grid and the later would be largely preferable to the former when it comes to dealing damage (no mana, no sacrifices needed to activate and probably still slightly less susceptible to removal).
If you look back, I've been a proponent of main board counters for a while. I agree that running a few galvanic in the side helps keep your opponent off and switch up the tempo of the deck. Have you tried running spell pierce rather than dispel in the main?
I have a question for all of you affinity players..
I have a extra budget list for affinity without the Opal, Inkmoth or Ravager.. What do you think is the most important cards to buy first because I love the deck and I think I want the "full" version but don't know where to start

Think of it like this. Opal is what lets you go faster, Ravager is what lets you win games. Depending on how much you can spend at a time, I would look to try and get 2 of each before finishing off one of the playsets. The reason being there is no point in going fast if you can't kill them and you can't kill them if you can't go fast.
Inkmoth is the thing you get last since it is generally our back up plan.
I'll gradually pick up ravagers, then glimmervoids, then inkmoths and steel overseers, etc. The tricky part is knowing when to give up on Tempered Steel and go full robots.

How many games have you played against Merfolk? It tends to be one of our best matchups. Vault Skirge is one of the key cards when it comes to racing the Merfolk opponent whether he is getting pumped by Arcbound Ravager modular, Steel Overseer or Cranial Plating. I would side board in any extra removal that you have( Dismember, Galvanic Blast, or Dispatch). Be sure to always focus down the lords with the spot removal too. If you run Whipflare in your SB, that card can be amazing as well.

Against merfolk, board out steel overseer, it is too slow. Bring in spell pierce, whipflare, dismember and maybe 1 or ancient grudge. Their sb cards are hurky's recall, spellskite and those that splash white, stony silence.avoid playing land pre combat unless you can counter their recall. Inkmoth nexus, vault skirge are key here to gain tempo against them. Be careful of vapour snag. Do not sac ravager easily. Key play is they will bounce the creature you target. Many build now avoid playing island as their sole basic but rather mountain to stop them from island walking. You can animate and sac the land they target with spreading sea to ravager to stop them from giving you island. Flyers and 0 cost cards are you best friend in this match-up.
steel overseer is really good against merfolk... it basically excels against any deck running less than 4 removal spells.... you need to hit your big cards and if you're taking out overseer without replacing it with something you're going to be very threat light... i would say ravager is arguably the weakest esp if they have harbinger but gutshot, vapor snag and hurkyl's blowout all the best ravager draws...
spellskite is pretty good as well as stubborn denial/thoughtseize although some may or may not board out cursecatcher....
i disagree, after hurkyl's recall, steel overseern takes too long to rebuild the board state. i do agree ravager is risky in this match-up, but nevertheless still more effective than steel overseer.

2. Arcbound Ravager is a very important card.
3. Inkmoth Nexus is primarily an alternate win condition although it can add to the artifact count to boost Cranial Plating or Master of Etherium.
That's the order I would suggest.
