I know it's been talked about, but now that people have had time to play with it, how are you finding Hangarback Walker? I happen to have two and kinda want to trade them into the spike but if it's worth playing then I may hold onto them.
Local players/friends think it's too slow and doesn't do anything better or different than other cards in robots play already, despite the synergies with Overseer and Ravager.
Hangarback walker seems very slow and situational : if you don't have a ravager or an overseer to feed it, it's just a poor 1/1 for 2. I would not run it at all, as it is to slow for what we want to do.
I've been searching for lists that performed using Day's Undoing, but there is only one on mtgtop8. Is there another source where I can fin Undoing Affinity performing builds?
Have you considered building one yourself? #madness
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
I really want to make walker affinity work. I think its possible, though I agree it may slow us down by a turn or so. Maybe some brewing with Shrapnel blast:
Ghostfire Blade seems like at least a 3 of in any of the Day's Undoing lists. You are playing a bunch of really bad creatures and anything to make them at least mildly threatening seems good.
That being said, I am still having good results with a more traditional style list. Been running 4 EC as the 3 drops, 1 Welding Jar, 1 Skite, and 4 blasts main. That said my meta and full of Grixis and I need the extra protection for my threats.
This is what I have been running the last month or so. I had been running a 3/2 split of Masters and EC's, but there has been far too much Grixis in my area. Welding Jar has been an all-star in opening hands. Being able to play a Steel Overseer and force them to have 2 removal spells feels SOOOOOO good. Nevermind being able to save my platings or other key cards.
My list is very similar, except for the creature balance :
The rest is strictly the same except I only have three of each nexuses (duh those price rocketed -_-) so the fourth ones are replaced by an island and a mountain respectively (very fun when someone tries to path your board several times ). My creature choice is a bit heavy, but a play the list in a more midrange approach, due to personal preference and metagame state. I feel there is no need to vomit your hand on the board in two-three turns. Better keep threats in hand and always have a second breath ready (my meta is heavy on removal and G2 hate).
I posted my SB a while ago, it is quite classic but my personal favourite is Spell Pierce which just stole games. In other matches-up, whipflare is bonkers.
As someone who just got 4 FOIL Inkmoths last weekend, how do you think I feel about that price spike :p. For a little bit I was running a 2nd basic when a bunch of people were brewing with Jeskai things, but they have died down.
Alright. So I tested my affinity list and here are my thoughts:
Disciple of the Vault broke the mirror. In half. I didnt realise the card says when "AN" artifact, not when an artifact you control, dies. So ya. Card was nuts and I 2-0'd my 2 matches vs Affinity easily.
I also lost to burn for the first time in a very long time 1-2, but I could have played much better. I was trying a couple different things and it didnt work, I know now. It happens.
I also beat Junk on the back of Disciples saccing to get around Lingering Souls, and Etched Champion being Etched Champion. But after I showed him how to properly board I won 2 games of 10 post board, but the only time he did win was turn 2 Stony Silence. So that wasnt too good, but at the same time Stony Silence just isnt played very much. Regardless, made some tweaks.
As such, this is what I'm trying the next few days:
Need to work on the sideboard a lot, but I think the main board is at the point where if the deck doesnt perform, I'm just going to perfect/tune my stock list, as I dont think Days Undoing is gaining percentage vs Jund and Grixis Control (which is already a favorable matchup) to lose a lot of points vs the mirror and burn.
Because Shrapnel Blast was not impressive, and Atog gives a) Another threat and b) recurring sac outlet for Disciple shenanigans.
5 damage was great, but I felt like I flooded on Burn and fell behind. Maybe its better than Atog, not sure. But gonna try this out and see how it goes (Please feel free to help me out)
One thing I will note: I think Hangarback Walker is going to open up a lot of options for people building Affinity synergies. Specifically, moving away from 8 man lands and maybe going to 6 or 5 with cutting down Inkmoths for more colored sources to play powerful cards like Tezzeret, Tempered Steel or Atog/Disciple, and I think its something people should be on the lookout for in the coming weeks.
I really want to build an affinity deck with focus on walker and using the sack outlet to deal damage, or produce flyers. It will take some playing around.

Me too. Could be interesting to use Disciple of the Vault in such a deck. Has anyone come up with a list yet?

You have 5 inkmoth's in your list. What exactly did you cut?
