@lamghost, did you find that your aggressiveness have reduced after the change by cutting steel overseer and include spellskite and galvanic blast? did you play any cards to buff up your critters like master of etherium and such? could you share your list and the meta that you face that lead to such a change and perhaps how your overall testing goes.
Whats the most competitive version of Affinity I can run?
Do some readings on the deck (the Karsten crash course and the SCG primer are good starts) and then tune based on your local meta. There is no universal best list.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
This list has been working wooooonders for me. Only lost once to TRON and that was based on me misplaying that match and keeping a bad hand. In my eyes it's undefeated. The academy ruins I was thinking of switching for a swamp as path/ghost quarter insurance. So far didn't get a chance to use its ability, but I am just waiting for a good opportunity in a grindy matchup. Any questions feel free! Love you my fellow affinity brothers and sisters, Good luck!
How do you find academy ruin working for you? is it too slow? what are some of the common cards you take back? how is ghostfire blade working for you? do you find that you need galvanic blast?
Looking at the MM2 spoiler, seems like they are trying to attract us to play UW affinity. a lot of good stuff. i am even contemplating if living weapon can be a thing for us. there seems to be quite a few way to go about it, but definitely it wouldn't be the traditional affinity that w are used to.
Academy ruins seems slow never got a chance to activate it so I can see a Swamp in its place as an alternative option for path/ghost quarter search. However I feel the position of Jund, Junk, and Delver the metagame is at, we need consistent threats so I can see ho it could compensate.
I was thinking of switching Dismember for Dispatch
The Blade is like a miniature plating. The toughness helps against lingering souls, mirror matches, and electrolyze. It keeps a continuous threat with memnites to etched
champions of the top.
Galvanic blast for me is counterintuitive. I find the deck to be most consistent when it doesn't interact with the opponent game 1. It forces them to stop you which is impossible if you have 16 big threats 5 small threats with spinal pests and blade. Then thoughtcasts to draw more threats. So galvanic blasts slows me down from one mana to use whatever turn it is.
In addition, galvanic blast is badly positioned against abzan & jund and good against delver & twin. Thoughtcast is good against abzan & Jund and alright against delver & twin. So I'll take the latter.
Went for another GPT singapore.
it is 6 round swiss.
round 1 Ad nauseam 2-1
game 1 , i hit fast, win
Game 2 , hit by a hurkyl's recall. i tried to spell pierce, he pact of negation me and wasted a lotus bloom. loae when he combo off while i rebuild boardstate.
game 3 , i have a lot of land, get a plating and go for infect win. draw a rule of law which i sideboarded, win via infect despite being hurkyl's recall once.
Round 2 UWR Control 1-2
game 1 , lose as he out resource me.
game 2, won via 2 etched champion after he enginered explosive for 2
game 3, lose as he out resource me again with tons of removal.
round 3 Naya burn 2-0
game 1, nut draw with master of etherium
game 2, win via ensoul artifact and spell pierce
round 4 Doran treefolk 2-1
game 1, i win with fast infect
game 2, hit by doran, slow draw and plating nullify due to doran, lose the game
game 3, win via infect, dispatch his doran and go for the kill.
round 5, U-tron 1-2
game 1, win via infect
game 2, mulligan to 6, mindslavered by him and draw an arcbound ravager, he sacrifice everything. lose from there
game 3, bring him down to negative life. platinum angel stall the game. misplay on my part by using galvanic blast before it is lethal, allowing him to cast the angel.
round 6, grixis control 1-2
game 1, lose to veldaken shackles
game 2, win with etched champion
game 3, lose to grim lavamancer.
Seems to have very bad game against control. any tips and trick to play around them? too much removal. overall, felt i did my best. lavamancer , path to exile, shackles and such are a pain. lavamancer basically eat all our creatures. bring in all the correct sideboard cards. make me think that blood moon is a necessary evil in such match up to mana denial them.
looking through some of my cards, is defense grid good against control? i am looking for cards against control for sideboard as i find that it is usually my worst match-up. or are there style of play that can help me play around their removal?

did you play yesterday in GX? lol
I have a lot of trouble against UR Twin. I think that my mistake against them is I always over prepare and most of the Twin players I talked to always said that they take out they combo in Game 2.
the more i play, the more i prefer master of etherium and spellskite over steel overseer. i might take out all my steel overseer for addition master of etherium and maybe additional galvanic blast or ensoul artifact. most of the time, it is the small creatures that got killed and they tried to counter ensoul. which really prove how strong ensoul really is over overseer and against lavamancer and such.
Same here. I like Master of Etherium better than Steel Overseer. Overseer is amazing if it survives long enough for you to activate its ability, sadly it almost always gets removed before I have the chance to activate it.

Steel overseer is your best turn one play and the best card in the mirror. The whole it dies to removal argument is weak. If they bolt a skirge with a plating on it and that clears the way for overseer than cool. Or a top decked overseer with one land and a ink moth is 9 poison over 3 turns. The list goes on. Play Master and Overseer, spellskite is only good with certain draws (ones with plenty of action already.)
my main problem is with lavamancer. that guy literally kill all my creature on sight, other than master and champion....a few match-up when i saw it , it ia just simply 'oh no' in my head. running ensoul means i have lesser removal, same for thoughtcast. keeping the coloured spells to max of 8 is really though with so many cards to choose from.
@Alix. Yes I agree with you, and I still run both Overseer and Master in MD with Spellskite in SB. I used to run 3 Overseer and 1 Master split. In this configuration, there were plenty of times where I top decked an Overseer and wished it was a Master instead. Now I'm running 2 Overseer and 2 Master split and the deck feels much smoother. Both cards are great. However, depending on the meta, one card is going to perform better than the other. There are a lot of burn players in my meta (including myself), and from my experience, burn seems to have a hard time dealing with Master while it has no problem removing Overseer.
Regarding Ensoul Artifact: I love that card! Turn one Skirge into turn two ensoul into turn three plating is just obnoxious.

I was curious about the thoughts of the affo community at the Collected Company match.
How is the matchup?
Which cards do you side in? (aside from cage, whipflare...spell pierce?)
Thanks in advance!
