thing that i don't like about natures claim is it gives my opponent 4 life. atleast in the control version having to attack and widdle my opponent down to 18 life, or go beyond 7 lands, is steps I would rather avoid if possible. so a card that would add life to my opponent is not something i'm seeing much value in right off the bat, despite how cheap it is cc wise.
One of the reason why I use Naturalize, it's a "decent" replacement. I can see Nature's Claim in TitanShift tho. How many Bolts are you guys running? I used to run 4, but thinking of cutting 1/2. I mean, it's bolt, its great. But it hasn't really been that impressive, except for killing cats. And ideas for replacements? Upping Electrolyze to 2 seems good. (running 3 firesprout maindeck due to meta). For reference:
i'm still running 4 bolts, knocks out everything that matters except deciever exarch and spellskite.
if your running only 1 naturalize why not just go for krosan grip?

Im going with Krosan Grip, thanks for suggestions! Not really familiar with the color green, haha
i'm only suggesting krosan grip cause your only setting aside 1 space for that sort of card, if you were setting aside more spaces, i think cheaper mana cost options would be the way to go.

Hi there folks. Been interested in CrypticShift, since I was given a playset of Cryptic Commands a LONG time ago (before Modern was a format) and want to find a home for them. I've been reading some of the more current lists, and this is what I've settled on:
My meta is mostly filled with Affinity, Jund/BG decks, and Merfolk. Yeah, this deck seems to be PERFECT for the meta, but the problem I'm having is my GF is using my Misty Rainforests for Zoo, and it's going to be a while before I can replace them with Verdant Catacombs. Should I just run more basics in their spot, or should I run something like Painlands or Checklands in their place?
Also, SB advice for the meta would be appreciated. Just been playing some goldfish runs/practice rounds against the GF so I can get a feel for it.
I've always loved Destructive Revelry. Super relevant against Affinity and Tron where they don't have a mana base that damages itself. I guess against Tron you can just aim bolts at their face but against Affinity those are probably going to be holding back swarms of artifact creatures.
Playtested around. Sometimes I flooded with lands, and sometimes missing one land before casting Scapeshift. I found this to be a problem quite often. Is running 8 mana ramp enough? Should I up it to 10 like others? Peer helps digging SfT/STE, tho it doesn't help us hitting land drops. Any tips with this? Coming from UWR Control, I wanted to run Think Twice, but honestly, it seems so bad in this deck. Thoughts about Explore in this case? Perhaps Serum Visions is the way to go?

Fetchlands are pretty irreplaceable, that's why they're so expensive. You probably just run some mix of dual lands instead. I don't think the 10 Mountains changes since you rarely fetch them anyway.
Also, be wary of Mana Leak. It isn't bad, but Remand is much more in sync with our game plan, and you can always sideboard harder counters.

Do you like Green midrange decks? Check out my My Magic Blog!
all of the other threads are having the "god talk" I haven't seen much faith from the users in this thread, so i'll step up to the plate lets talk about god!
first question: have you accepted god into the heart of your magic deck yet?
jokes aside, the gods from the new set that match are colors are
given how things work, we can write off xenagos as does nothing for us.
kruphix keeps mana in the mana pool I wanna say it might not be of any use, but perhaps theres something to pair with it that might make it viable, since we are a deck that ramps a lot of mana, accumulating mana might do something, but already if I have to say we might have to pair it with something, i'm getting the feeling we can just write this one off as well.
Keranos I think shows the most potential, reveal the cards we draw each turn for a "or" effect. if its land we draw a card, we got lots of land, if its not a land card we bolt our opponent or a pesky creature. both of those effects we might like.
biggest problem with the gods, were a land deck and we can't really get devotion high enough to turn these guys into creatures as alternative kills. but thats up for debate, which is why were having the "god talk". keranos is the only winner I see so far.

would it make any sense to run a single kessig wolf run in the blue control version for pumping things like vendilion clique and baloth? or any other few creature you might be running?

I actually like Keranos, though I think he has the same issue as Kiora for us. The effect seems pretty good, but in effect I think it will be lackluster. Normally when we get to 5 we want to be holding up mana for a counterspell, not tapping out. After sideboard there are some matches where we're fine to tap out for a big threat, like an Inferno Titan or some such, but I don't think Keranos is what we want there either....
I think Keranos might be a decent fit in the deck but I'm really not sure what I'd cut for him or if he's even worth it. There are a lot of situations where he's way too slow. I do like that he allows us to draw lands and spells though, which is something that this deck really wants. Kiora kind of does that too but unlike her, he can't be killed by attacking and most decks can't deal with him since he will never become a creature, which is pretty good. Overall, I think he might be worth testing as a 1-of.
Kruphix seems terrible in this deck for sure though. We have no way to turn him on, he comes down very late and his effect does basically nothing at all.
vendilion clique is a decent input, and upping your counter spells. dunno if you'd use spell snare for other match ups but it is the bane of them, stopping the ritual spells. definitely keep bolts in you don't want them landing a goblinmancer, keep maybe a firespout or equivilent in as well, if they did combo out sometimes they use empty the warrens.

Wow. Just tried this deck out. It's amazing. I am currently looking for URsomething control but has a combo win, and I think RUG CryptShift is better that UWR Twin to do so, since twin is easier to stop.
Gonna tested it a few times more, if the results is positive, I may change into this from UWR control.
===============
@TheRogue : kessig seems fine. But I think somewhat not quite optimal.
@Everyone : ever tried using Tarmogoyf here? (Just throwing out topic, since I also don't know what to cut)
===============
Newbie question : Which is more susceptible to banhammer? Scapeshift or Twin or neither? Thank you.
You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
I play both UWR and Scapeshift and have to say scapeshift is actually a bit more of where I want to be personally. this deck is really a lot of fun if you like combo-control. And I dont think either is ban-worthy just yet. I also thought about playing a few tarmogoyf but the deck doesnt have too many spots to gamble with.

Yes, I forgot something, why no one plays thrun? Seems auto win against uwr (post board) i think..
and if anyone cares to play kessig, it's wonderful with thrun.
edit : it's even maindeckable, just in case your mountains seems all gone (tec edged or anything), you can scapeshift for 1 kessig. suboptimal i know. but rather than losing?

I got to thinking on my ride home about maybe trying out Font of Fertility.
Yeah, let's let that sink in for a minute. Don't get me wrong, when I first saw this card I was like "that's so horrid". However, what it does let us do is play it on turn 1, then pass on turn 2 with 2 mana up. Now our opponent has to respect our Izzet Charm or Remand, and if we choose we can just crack the Font instead of interact. I'm really curious if it'd be worth it instead of Sakura-Tribe Elder (which, sadly, seems the only card to swap out in this case)....
I like your reasoning, but Font of Fertility doesn't chump block or bring the opponent down to 18 for an emergency 7-land scapeshift win like STE does. Also, though it's a niche case, an opponent's Living End doesn't bring it back like it does STE. It doesn't seem worth it to replace. Maybe include Font of Fertility instead of Farseek, if you run it?

I'd never drop Sakura-Tribe Elder for it. Steve's ability to block is so clutch--he's part of the reason why CrypticShift's pre-board Jund match-up is so good.
I'm more interested in dropping Farseek or Search for Tomorrow for it--Farseek can be clumsy at 2-3 mana when I have Remand in hand, and it effectively has Suspend 1 if I play it on Turn 2 (as opposed to SfT's Suspend 2). The land ETB'ing tapped can blow, though.
I currently run 4 Searches, 4 Tribe Elders, and 2 Farseeks. I really don't want to cut Farseek because I run Vedalken Shackles, only 7 basics, and would love to keep the ability to Farseek for shocklands. I'm wary of switching to 10 things that only search for basics....
