So i m finally done tweaking my deck in spite of some corner cases (:
Is it better to run 4x searing Blood in the side or is it better to use a 2/2 split with anger of the gods?
Also I have to figure my last 3 sideboard slots which should solve storm and the mirror,
but i m questioning if leyline or dragons claw is rly tht useful in the spot or if you know better options?
Very appreciating your help,
A new burn player
I'm a bigger fan of Searing Blaze over Searing Blood. It deals damage to the player regardless of whether or not you actually kill the creature, and will still target the player in cases where the creature is no longer a valid target for the spell. I am currently running 3 main deck, but I have run a 2/2 split between main deck and sideboard in the past.
Beating Storm and the Mirror. Well yeah, Dragon's Claw is a very good card for doing exactly that. I'm currently running 3x in my sideboard. At one point I had 4, but it seemed like I was boarding in too many cards that didn't actually deal damage. I cut it down to 3, which seems fine.
I think it could be good to have a sweeper in the sideboard. I've ran Volcanic Fallout for a long time, and it seemed to be the card seen more at the recent SCG event. There was one deck that did a 1/1 split between Fallout and Anger. I'm sure either would be fine, although lately I haven't felt like I've needed Fallout for the Delver match up (which is why I played it before). It might not be necessary.
Does anyone have thoughts on bloodchief ascension? A friend recommended it as the hotness, but I'm not so sure. I don't see it being played, anyone tried it?

this is the list I am running at the moment to combat the rise of UR delver, burn and perhaps jund or azban midrange in my area. please give feedbackon any poor choice of cards or what can be improve, thanks
I think you need to decided if you want to run hellspark more, or lavamancer more, and cut one or the other, there will be situations where you need to activate lavamancer, and have to eat hellspark.
I would also splash white over green here, with white you get access to boros charm, and lightning helix, which could replace vexing devil, and hellspark elemental, if burn is prevalent in your area its more reason to play helix, this would also make more sense in cutting hellspark, revelry is good, but not at the cost of helix, and boros charm. Just my two cents. You should also rethink blood moon in the side board, its a great card in modern, but it can shut of at least one card in your current build, and multiple cards in your sideboard. If you go with the white splash, you'll hurt yourself even more. I would also suggest a playset of blackcleave cliffs.
From my previous post, I abruptly asked myself why everyone ditched black, other than, perhaps, the gas provided by blue with Treasure Cruise. Assuming that route is not taken, black provides gas in and of itself with Bump in the Night (which, in my opinion, is infinitely better than shard volley.) Ergo, I updated my previous list to a Mardu build:
So far from my tests on MWS, I haven't lost yet. I have beaten hexproof, UWR, Tron, and mirror. As per personal taste, I just could not get sold on Treasure Cruise. Perhaps it is due to nostalgic resistance, but I've always envisioned the deck thriving with just late game gas provided by its own spells (i.e. Bump and Lavamancer.) I am more or less set on 55 cards in the deck. The only change would be, perhaps, removing the Grim Lavamancer for Keldon Marauders. He seems to just die to virtually half the meta that play Lightning Bolt. There are times when he can do damage after only one turn.
Concerns:
- Grim Lavamancer: I am not sure about him. He always just dies whenever he is played. In a sense this is a good thing, as the spell will no longer be pointed at me or a more impactful creature.
- Skullcrack: I want to work this into the deck someone.
Beyond this, everything is great. There is nothing better than having no gas left with 2 Bump in the Nights waiting in your graveyard to kill your oppnent.

Play white. There's no reason in hell to not have white. Also, don't play Vexing Devil. I never want my opponent to make a decision, especially one that will often be in his/her favor. Imagine how bad of a top deck Vexing Devil would be. Remove the Vexing Devils. Hellspark Elemental is anti-synergistic with Grim Lavamancer, which always sucks. If you have had luck with Grim lavamancer I recommend Keldon Marauders instead. Just a few tips.
Why is burn not running 4 leyline of punishment instead of 4 dragon's claw?
It deals with dragon claw as well as hate/lifegain from other decks
We have roughly 40% chance to have one in our opening hand
Am i missing out on something?
Additionally, is kor firewalker better than dragon's claw for RW burn decks? Can we cast it reliably on turn 2 with 12 white sources?
I've always found the sideboard to be the hardest part about building any deck, so any pointers regarding that would really help me out!
Cheers
Against Burn or UR Delver, if they play treasure cruise, side in Hide//Seek rather than Rakdos Charm, you can potentially gain 8 life of a treasure cruise in their deck ! And you can also deal with opposing Leylines.
That is absolutely bonkers, I'm so glad you told me that! Gaining eight life would completely stop them in their tracks imo. I sided rakdos because I expected to see Dragon's claws and Spellskites mainly, Hide//Seek would cover me for all that along with everything else.
I also can't work out why there is so much hype for Molten Rain, I threw one on the SB but it seems like it's only really that good against Tron?
I use Molten Rain and Cryoclasm in my sideboard sometimes. MR is great against UWR control and Esper Control. It hits their manlands and deals 2 damage to them. I really like Cryoclasm cause it's great in the Delver matchup and anybody else who plays islands and plains plus it deals 3 damage, better then the 2 from MR.
Gah, last night at FNM I ended up against Robots and Merfolk, bad matchups and I may not have sideboarded perfectly. I always now what cards to side in, but never what to side out...
Neither of those are bad MUs. Merfolk is a sure fire win and Affinity is essentially a coin toss.
Can i see your list ? I find merfolk really hard with the land hate (spreading seas), the big creatures and the occasional counters.
In general against these creature decks, I don't know what to side out, creatures that will be too small to pass against merfolks or big robots, or spells like boros charm ?
merfolk can play around eidolon with aether vials. and with kira they can protect their first lords from burn. With Cursecatcher they can slow us down. They can manascrew burn and they can vapor snag our creatures. With Master of Waves they have a creature with protection from red mainboard. which stops all our creatures turn 4+. Plus counters. They dont shock themselves with lands. Only good thing, they dont run lifegain.
Maybe you haven't played the match up enough. On Rbg burn, I played maybe 20 rounds against Merrill and never lost one. Lost a game in maybe half of those.

I haven't played Modern in awhile, and I have been wanting to test Swiftspear and Treadure Cruise since they've been spoiled. I will have to dig up my last successful list, but I burn their lords and shoot to the face with everything else. I board out most of my creatures because they will be outclassed, unless I decided to have Grim somewhere in the seventy-five. When I get the chance, I will find my list for you.
Here it is. My last "successful" list I had in Modern. This was PTQ Oakland with over four-hundred players going five and four.
I've abandoned treasure cruise from burn. While there were a couple games it won, there were also games where I would have won if it had been any other card. Part of the problem is that I only have 8 red fetches, and cruise really wants you to run more. So basically its probably more of a "card availability" issue that is making cruise slightly less impressive.
That being said, I ran this 75 at a 5 round -> cut to single elim top 8.
I went 4-1 losing to affinity on the back of a play mistake, making the cut to top 8. The other matches were 2-0 delver, 2-1 JA storm, 2-0 BG rock, 2-0 Blue moon. I lost to (a different) B/G rock in the quarterfinals, losing game 1 on the draw by a wide margin (thanks tarmogoyf) and losing game 3 thanks to not hitting a burn spell 3 draws in a row.
I'm seeing a lot of Monastery Swiftspear but how is it ACTUALLY playing out for people?
She is absolutely stunning in legacy which is why I haven't given her up in modern despite not seeing her much, I haven't had her stick to the battlefield much but when that means Eidolon does or I get a free mountain + 1-3 damage, I don't feel as vindicated as when they kill Lavamancer. She also makes Leylines much less meaningful as she gets big from bolting their blockers.
With the popularity of UR/Mono-U delver decks is there any value to Ricochet trap, Runeflare Trap or Boil in the SB? I don't play much burn and wanted to try the deck out. There is an increase in popularity of the delver decks at my LGS so I wanted to see if anyone had experience with these cards. I would think that no one would expect a trap card in modern
