With Koopas list at the beginning, it seems that the deck has become more pod kiki combo and less of a deck that can win off the back of its aggro creatures. Has anyone playing this list found it to be consistent enought to win with just the combo? I play naya pod that is aggro first and has 2 kiki as a secondary wincon with my angels and zealous conscripts and it beats down like a dream
I won the modern PE last night with naya pod, and of the 16 games i won, i only comboed off 4 times. These colors have so many silver bullets that i often just locked down the board and bashed with a few angels.
Alright, I've been on this forum for long enough that I think it's about time that I posted a list. I've 4-0ed both the dailies I've done with this version of the deck, and I've been doing pretty well in the 2-man queues with it, so I think it's pretty solid, and it's what I'll be taking to the GP more or less. The only changes I'll be making is that I'll be using bonfires instead of forked bolts and fulminator mages instead of sowing salts, and probably with the fourth fire-lit thicket in the main to support the mages. This is because I own these cards in paper, but they are really pricey on modo. I'd appreciate any feedback or questions about it.
Also, I've never done the deck tags before, so I hope I get it right.
I just got wrecked by your redcap to conscripts podding in the final round of this last DE a few hours ago. Going to be trying conscripts out for a bit and see how i like it.

Def try it out. Like Exarch, you get free wins out of nowhere.
I'll admit that exarch does lead to some awkward mana situations. However, podding into it, or chording into it is amazing. Having the ability to pod up a wall of roots, untap the pod to pod again leads to some wins out of nowhere. After playing with it, I'm very happy to have it as my only blue splash. I have more or less 11 blue sources and 8 ways to cheat it into play, so the times that it's a dead card are rare. In matchups where consistency can be crucial, I do side it out, but I've even won games by just using it to tap something while I beatdown.
I'm currently not running a three-drop combo piece (I'd like to be, but space is tight and I'm already compromising on a lot of slots), but Conscripts I think should be an autoinclude. It lets you Pod from a four-drop into the entire win, and it's also one of the better responses to Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.

When you peer long enough through the depths, the depths peer also through you.
I added conscripts and i will definitely not be cutting it. It allowed me to combo off with just redcap+pod 5 times across the DE i played with it in my list.
I'll give deceiver another shot tonight and see how it goes.
i think if Conscripts helps us get around the issue cards, maybe Bell-Ringer would be better suited as Exarch...
ill try Exarch for sure but i may just go back to bell ringer.
I even think i convinced Jarvis Yu to add it to his deck
Anyway anyone finding a solid sideboard they'd like to share? mine is in my sig if ur curious.
What cards are you finding the best in a general meta?
It's true that Village Bell-Ringer does get around Ghostly Prison, but the number of times that has happened is VASTLY LESS then the number of times I have won out of nowhere with Exarch. For reference, by playing Exarch and Conscripts you can win with these any two of the following CMC and a Pod in play.
You can win if:
You have a two drop and a three drop.
You have a two drop and a four drop.
You have a three drop and a four drop.
You have a four drop and a four drop (even if neither is an Angel) .
And then if you play Conscripts you have the obvious Redcap interaction.
Have people running Exarch had many mana issues? I can't see playing it off just BoP/Hierarch, and just one Steam Vents and 4 Mesas doesn't seem like enough to reliably cast it if you happen to draw it. I really like the idea of it but it really seems like it's often a dead draw. Also our mana is pretty stretched as-is given the RRR on Kiki.
I know it's a one-of and we want to Chord or Pod for it, but is the risk of drawing and not being able to cast it (and its effects on being able to cast other spells like Kiki) worth it just due to the power level? After all Bell-Ringer does some cool tricks as well (beating Ghostly Prison with a dork out, pinging random things with Sparkmage, even just the surprise blocker(s) can be sweet). Basically the question is of the power is worth the loss in consistency.

I never have had problems casting it. 4 Birds, 2 Noble, 4 Mesa, and 1 Steam Vents gives you roughly 8 ways to cast your one of (as, when making manabases, I count creature sources as half a source).
I love the idea of this deck, and have always enjoyed combos that require creatures ala the old Survival/Vengevine engine in Legacy. But that can win fair too.
Any thoughts on cutting one Mirror Breaker (in the lists that run four), and running one Urabrask the Hidden? It can act as a second Linvala against SplinterTwin combos. Sure it's just for a turn, but this deck can combo out too, and if you manage to untap, you can probably rap the game up with or without combo just playing and podding two creatures into play. I have an unnatural love of Urabrask, so it's possible I'm trying to shoehorn him into a spot he doesn't belong, but I think he's a great five drop, and his control aspect makes him a house against tokens and faeries. That 4/4 body is no joke either when Mistbind is around.

Same with me. I cut it down to 2 Kiki's a while ago, and I was happy with that choice. I went up back up to three after a little prodding, but the deck performed noticeably worse, so I went back to 2.
On another note, I'd have to agree that Conscripts is a must include. It gives you so many options and it doesn't die to combust. Plus it allows you to combo through an Elesh Norn (by stealing it first obviously), which had been a big problem card for me when it was cheated into play with gifts shenanigans.
Also, for those of you going to Columbus, what kind of a meta are you expecting? I've only played on modo, where storm and burn are disproportionately represented because they are cheap. Also, I've yet to face a twin deck once, despite doing 5 dailies, 3 8-mans and countless 2-man queues. I got combo-ed by twin once, and that was out of storm's sideboard. Is it really played that seldom, or is that just a fluke/quirk of the modo metagame.

my main reason for playing one copy - i only own one copy.
however, i have worked around this by including protection and versatility to the deck to protect the combo and myself.
this is as follows:
2x spellskite
2x glen elendra archmage
1x loaming shaman (SO useful)
1x reveillark
2x nature's claim
i've been finding this protection/versatility suite to be REALLY powerful. in concert with the usual fair plus a couple of my choices (i.e. restoration angel, kitchen finks, sower of temptation, wall of roots and so on)
i'll give you guys a full list of my current build tomorrow morning. it's very strong.
I won the modern PE last night with naya pod, and of the 16 games i won, i only comboed off 4 times. These colors have so many silver bullets that i often just locked down the board and bashed with a few angels.

2 Kiki-jiki, Mirror Breaker

As for the SB, mine is very close to DXI's:
2x Bonfire of the Damned
2x Combust
2x Fulminator Mage
2x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
1x Ancient Grudge
1x Avalanche Riders
1x Ethersworn Canonist
1x Harmonic Sliver
1x Linvala, Keeper of Silence
1x Qasali Pridemage
1x Sigarda, Host of Herons
I haven't found a deck where I don't have cards to board in against so I do think the SB is well rounded.

Is running the Troll Worship mini-combo a good idea these days?
