Going off even T4 requires quite a draw, and no disruption by your opponent. The idea of this deck is try to survive to t4, t5, and start to go off.
Wooded Foothills can do a passable imitation of mistys or scalding tarns. It fetches all of your dual lands, but leaves you slightly weaker to blood moon since you need islands in order to disrupt an on-board blood moon. But I haven't really seen many blood moons in my meta nor online, its not a card i'd sweat much over. If you don't have the zendi fetches atm, I would probably wait the 6 or so months to get confirmation of no reprints.
DTT is far and above Treasure Cruise. We have so many blanks that TC can be extremely awkward. You could draw 2 combo-pieces and a land when all you want is disruption, or vice versa. DTT has a higher chance of putting the cards you want in your hand. Not to mention its instant, so fits into our counter plan, and fetchable by the scroll, and filters your later draws by putting unwanted cards to the bottom. I almost want to make it a 2-of but with our scrolls and lack of easy cantrips, I'm not convinced its the right move.
Chalice of the Void is rather awkward, to put it lightly. Against delver it blanks a lot of their burn/delver, sure, but forces you to have more mana as you can't use snare/pierce/dispel for counter-wars. Leyline just seems stronger here. Its great against little Zoo, but I'm not sure our matchup is that unfavorable even without chalice. Its dead weight against some of our tougher matchups such as Pod. I'm trashing the idea for Ancient Grudge and Combust.
Not much action in this thread lately. Anyone been playing this at all recently?
What do you guys think about Stormbreath Dragon as an alt win for the board? It seems strong. Dodges Path, Decay, and most red removal, has fying, haste, and can get bigger later. And it's only 5 mana. Is there a reason we haven't tested this already?
What about the new set, anyone see anything that could be interesting for us? Monastery Siege seems like it could be alright as a sideboard card, but could just be too slow. Whisperwood Elemental could maybe be alright as a alt win, but is pretty slow. Atarka, World Render almost looks good, but then you realize it's 7 mana, and really isn't any better than Inferno Titan..
So yeah, really nothing very interesting that I could see unfortunately.
So Dig Through Time got the axe. Didn't actually see that one coming. Dig was probably the best thing to happen to Ritual Gifts since the Seething Song ban, and now it's gone, so that sucks big time... Dig basically single handedly made Merchant Scroll about 100% better.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
You can't kill the opponent with 1 Quicken, you would need 2 at least (you need it 3 times, 1 for PiF, use it again for Grapeshot and now you need another one for the Remand Grapeshot play), which makes it uninteresting. Furthermore, you need more U mana, which you don't have (you would have to play more Manamorphoses). Ideas Unbound is just bad, if you want to play something like this go with Steam Augury, and even that card is just bad.

either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
Id like to play this deck, as i enjoy challenging myself, is their videos to watch? or could someone explain the best lines of play of setting up the combo etc :o?
Holy crap. How have I never heard of this deck before?! I've already sleeved up most of it from my collection. I will be playing this at local tournaments for the forseeable future.
Is there a post-banning MD/sideboard that anyone has been testing recently?

The Primer explains perfectly (Winning with Ritual Gifts), what you need to combo off. Also it explains the early game a little bit. Just take some time and read the whole primer, and then ask open questions. I think, many of your questions, especially on how to play this deck, can be answered with the primer.
Sadly, there are no videos out there of the deck (at least, I didn't find one).

Also, videos would be cool...
First, don't underestimate the complexity of the deck. Knowing what to do is crucial. I would test it first, before playing it at a tournament. For list look in the primer. Lord Hazanko has his most recent list there. Only the Dig has to be kicked and something else has to be included (look at older lists, maybe you find something, which can fill the spot).
Sadly, there are no videos out there of the deck (at least, I didn't find one).
@Thread, I will start testing the Ramp version, then I will try Plasma Capture, since it seems pretty decent in my expected Meta (tons of Junk). The loss of Dig truly hurts, maybe we get another goody (doubt it, but it could happen).
Greetings,
Kathal

Nice to see a little spark of action on the thread. A lot of people have been requesting video. I tried to do the best i could to describe how the combo works, but i can definitely understand why someone would want to see it in action. Unfortunately my labtop isn't capable of running screen cap software. I tried making videos of some cockatrice games, and it seems fine during the process, but the videos ended up super laggy.
My roomate has a ridiculously nice video camera though. There have been so many requests for videos, i might just set up his camera and record myself playing some games.
People have played Mystical Teachings in the past with some success. It can be a bit slow though, and back in the day you used to be able to grab Seething Song with it, which was a huge, but now that you can't grab song, Teachings popularity in Ritual Gifts has plummeted.
I need to figure a few things out, but my initial thought was just to replace Dig with Muddle the Mixture. Muddle can still tutor out some combo pieces, and it doubles as a hard counter. not having access to Dig is anymore is rough though. With Scroll, i swear i cast Dig every single game i played, and it was always amazing. Not having that line in the deck anymore hurts my heart strings.
Jund/Junk is going to come back with a vengeance. Which is good and bad. Never felt delver was that great of a matchup, it wasn't awful, but not great. But dem discards, leyline is very important now.
Still like the creature sideboard plan, and I feel like thragtusk will do even better in this sort of meta. Trades with the rhino, leaving a 3/3 behind. Trades with a naked liliana slam, still leaving a 3/3 behind.
Less gy hate now that pod is out! The less grafdigger's cage I see the better.
Muddle the Mixture might come back in. Its biggest sin was its slowness but perhaps there'll be less aggression, and more hand disruption, in the meta. I would die of laughter if a jun-d/k player thoughtseizes Muddle out of my hand. Maybe Peer Through Depths, we have a high(ish) density of sorceries/instants, so its a consideration.
Does anyone have an updated list of ritual gifts. As a storm player, this deck was brought to my attention by a friend, I fell in love with the gifts combo plan. I only can't figure out what is probably the best version of the deck for this moment.
I do feel like, the unburial rites sideboard is an awesome way to answer burn decks. (Just pick iona)
All the decks we've posted recently are probably fine, save for the one-of Dig Through Time needing a replacement, and it's possible that the Pyroclasm effects are less relevant now that UR Delver is no longer rearing its ugly head.
I badly want to take this to a Modern IQ next week, but I don't have the fetches or anyone who can loan them to me. Oh well!
This deck looks awesome, I'm finishing UR Ascension Storm right now but this is next on my list. Could Epic Experiment be a good 1 of with the amount of mana this deck produces? Still getting my head around all the interactions but from what I can tell it should be able to cast a pretty huge experiment to storm out for the game.
Does the printing of anticipate over peer through depths push this deck significantly in relation to everything else, or is that just me wishing for an actual combo-control deck not-named scapeshift?

Yes, I am a local area mod. WELP. GOOD LIFE CHANGES ALL HAPPEN AT ONCE AND SOME ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE
Primary Decks:
Modern: Esper Draw-Go
Legacy: RUG Lands
EDH: Sidisi turn-3 storm
Anticipate looks alright. I've brewed up a few lists with it, but i can't find anything i'm truly happy with.
Rather than Anticipate, i wish we would have just gotten Impulse. Anticipate just feels kinda meh when you compare it to Impulse. Would it really have been too much just to let us look 1 card deeper???
Still messing around with this deck though, but haven't been able to get a solid list. Anyone else still playing this at all?

I would like to build this deck but unfortunately at this time I simply can't afford the Scalding Tarn/Misty Rainforest.
Are there any budget options for these lands or are they essential to hit the right color mana? With this deck it looks like the manabase really makes or breaks you.
Everything else in the list is bearable except for those lands.
Just curious what does your most current list look like? I haven't been following this thread closely so I haven't seen much of development post DTT/TC bannings. I imagine this deck is a bit more difficult to pilot now without those cards.

First, I am a little surprised that you are not playing a singleton Noxious Revival. I have done some play and a lot of testing with a more standard build and Revival has been crucial in making certain Gifts piles work and making sure I can get Grapeshot when I need it. Has it just been unnecessary for you? Or was it not worth the times it was dead in your hand?
Second, I am struggling somewhat in understanding exactly when the deck should be going off and what your Gifts piles should look like. Clearly in your build the Gifts piles will vary a fair bit based on your hand, field, graveyard, and your opponent's field, but are there any general rules for what you should be fetching in order to go off properly? Or is it really something that is best learned through doing it and getting used to the fluid piles you can build? If at all possible I, like others have said before, would be very interested in seeing any kind of recording you can do of a real game or two to show how the whole thing comes together in a real match.
On noxious revival. Good card is good, but the card is rarely needed. It could replace the epic experiment, but I like that card as a 1 of, but I think revival might be better (getting a fetchland back in a pinch or screwing your opponents draw when you have them dead is so good) Standard fetching order is such that at most one land makes only blue. So Halimar + 2-3 u/r lands. Other you will run into issues since your opponent can cut your red since you are grabbing mana seism with gifts a lot. Which leads me to the piles topic. Normally the play is majorly dependent on your hand, and maybe later in the week I will set up a guide but it took me a few months to get a feel for what the piles needed to be. The easiest piles involve having electromancer in play, then getting pif, ritual, increasing vengeance, and either a mana seism or another ritual depending on land composition will win. Other than than piles with 4 lands look like mana seism/increasing vengeance (depends on lands), pyretic ritual, desperate ritual, pif will be a win. After you have cast your mana you will go crazy with the increasing vengeance (its key here) to make over 11 mana at a time. Then you will flashback the gifts and get pif grapeshot and a ritual.
Basically the general idea is to make a ton of mana with the first gifts and then on flashback get the grapeshot. If you make enough mana you can also flashback the increasing vengeance on gifts which in my experience generates a scoop every time.

If BtL would have been an instant, I would play it immediately but as it is, it is rather weak. You don't want to tap out on turn 5 which doesn't win you the game that turn. If you want to run a hardtutor, look at Merchant Scroll.

Yeah it's actually kind of funny. As soon as Bring to Light was teased, I immediately threw together a list, only to realize the next day the BTL was actually a sorcery, not an instant. So yeah, that throws a giant wrench in my spokes.
Lately i've been messing with a more control focused list, with no ramp, and actually running 2 Mystical Teachings over the original 4 Merchant Scroll I was running. Having alright success with the list, but it's still not feeling perfect.
