MTG Salvation

So after playing a great deal of Ken Yukihiro's U/B Heroic deck in Standard, I though I might want to test out how it could be tuned for modern.



Sideboard

• 2 Spellskite
  
• 2 Doom Blade
  
• 2 Engineered Explosives
  
• 2 Spell Pierce
  
• 1 ratchet bomb
  
• 2 Thoughtseize
  
• 4 Phyrexian Crusader

This is the shell I have made so far I want to test it and see how it does, it doesn't seem like it'd be horrible, but might be underwhelming.

Jace-Time Warp-Mine deck
Game 1: Pain Seer and a Sword of Fire and Ice was too much
Hidden strings effectively countered his plan to live one more turn by tapping Pain seer and countering thoughtseize.

Game 2: Opened 2 Thoughtseize, 2 Inquisition of Kozilek, 1 Pain Seer, 1 Watery grave, and 1 Swamp
the amount of disruption combined with Card Advantage generated was too much for him he died to a Phyrexian Crusader equiped with a Sword of War and Peace.

I'm not sure about AEther Vials or mainboard Discard. Snapcaster on the other hand actually seems like a nice addition, although he can only Snap back non-Cipher spells (Cipher is exiled).

I'd change the deck to look something like this:


Mutagenic Growth can't be cast normally, which is kind of a bummer, but free spells are excellent with Heroic. Paying 2 life to stop a Lightning Bolt/make them sac a dude when you tap out for Agent of the Fates is good value. It doesn't save Tormented Hero unfortunately.

Yeah after playing with vial I don't really like it in this deck so lets play 4 mutagenic growth instead, as for thoughtseize, and inquisition I have won many games off just being able to make them play the game I want them to play I don't think I want to take out mainboard discard just yet.

Is Invisible Stalker a good choice for cypher target? I've also thought that Trait Doctoring might do real work in the Modern card base.

Stalker seems good, but I'm not sure where I'd want him as I feel we would need to cut some of our 3 drops in order to play him. Trait doctoring seems like it would do work against Zoo.

Isochron Scepter, how does it interact with Cypher spells because it would seem like that could put cypher copies out every turn ?

I was thinking the same thing, but in this deck you can get multiple activations of Pain Seer in the same turn, sometimes the turn he comes into play. Dark Confidant isn't strictly better than Pain Seer, but I thought the same thing as you and I don't think its 100% one way or the other, until someone does a lot of testing.

This deck is based off of Ken Yukihiro's standard deck. I chose Seer over Bob because Seer has a better body and in this deck can be activated multiple times a turn, Bob's smaller body means we cant save him with a mutagenic growth vs bolt or anger of the gods, and Bob is a good deal worse than Seer vs Zoo Im going to try to do more testing today and post results.

Scepter seems a little clunky to me, but I might try it a couple games and see if I like it.
