I played pat cox at gp Richmond. This deck is under rated and folks play it wrong most of the time when they pick it up. This is not an Aggro deck. It's control. I had a boggles player scoop to me after I played three cards game 2. Mtn, spirit guide, chalice for 1.
I ran three copies of chalice of the void in the side. I didn't run the mind stone. Found it too slow. 4 spirit guides allows you to turn 2 blood moon consistent.
Also I find anger of the gods too painful for me as as it kills a win condition for me as well.
Meta dependent, as is the case with most decks. Wildfire is neat. I think there's already a thread for a Wildfire deck that you can use. Maybe mash some lists together or something. If you're splashing for green, what about Burning-Tree Shamanor Hound of Griselbrand?
Terrible suggestions. This format is choked with efficient removal spells. The only way to maximize WIldfire is to play a control, creatureless deck, or with creatures that you don't care dying because tey have already provided value (Solemn Simulacrum).
Nice primer guys. I notice people mention her and in other places that there are issues with the deck vs boggles and storm.
I would suggest in addition to chalice mentioned above that spellskite should be in the board for boggles, and trinisphere for both (it also hurts cascade decks like living end, as well as the primary storm target)
Ratchet bombs would also be my board card of choice, maybe running relic of progenitus main for pesky graveyard decks and usa control. I think once you go for a white splash you the as well give up on the deck, as eventually you will mutate into usa control or r/w lockdown etc. I think this deck suffers from being cheap, and as such attracts a lot of budget players with budget options.

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
I think Vandalblast is a very powerful card, as it gives me the opportunity to 1 for 1 against affinity early game if need be, and wrath their board without sacrificing my Coldsteel Hearts. I enjoy the versatility of the card.
This is basically the list I ran at GP Richmond, except for one change in the main. I dropped one Relic to the board and brought in one more Simian Spirit Guide.
I've made changes to the board to adjust for the meta around me. Burn just beats my face in, so I've added the dragon's claw to combat it. Local meta choice. In the GP I ran two more Magus of the Moon in the board because in the matchups where I wanted a blood moon affect I really wanted it. It's over kill though. Also I dropped one shatterstorm as I had enough artifact hate coming in +2 BA, +2 Shatterstorm, +2 Shattering Spree so I cut one so I could run two Dragon's claw. Chalice came in as well vs. affinity but only on the play. Chalice for zero was very effective.
Instead of Dragon claw you should try staff of the death magus. Gains life off you lands and when you kill there things. Worse at first but gets better as the game goes on.
I think you meant the red one staff if flame magus. I don't like it bc the purpose is to slow down burn. If I'm only gaining on when I do things it's not as effective. Also it costs 3 vs. 2. Against burn that one turn makes a difference
I have played skred red for the last 3 tournament with changes in each tournament. so far the result had been very good. my only problem is dealing with blue counter deck merfolk and tarmatwin. I have played against affinity, gr tron, scapeshift, infect, bogle, living end America tempo. I am playing with inferno titan and stormbreath in my earlier version without boros reckoner. have changed my build to a similar deck posted earlier, the result is good. this is my current sideboard. feel free to comment on cards I should consider and sideboarding option available.
main deck
3x stormbreath dragon
4x boros reckoner
3x simian spirit guide
2x magus of the moon
1x batterskull
4x koth of the hammer
4x blood moon
3x relic of progenitus
2x volcanic fallout
3x pyroclasm
4x lightning bolts
4x skred
21x snow covered mountain
2x scrying sheet
sideboard
2x sowing salt
3x defense grid
2x spellskite
2x torpor orb
2x ratchet bomb
1x pithing needle
3x chalice of the void
changes in considering is 2x anger of the god mainboard, changing spellskite for 1 more torpor orb and ratchet bomb.
A little late to the party but I just wanted to chime in that I made day 2 with skred at GP Richmond.
Incase some of you didn't see it in the Wizards coverage, I got a deck tech. (I thought I was getting matched lossed or something when they called me to the main stage :/ ) Here's the link with hilarious picture included http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/gprich14/day2#5
The list I played was a bit of a mash up of the modo lists and Durwurd's input. The deck is pretty soft to combo, especially twin, storm and the rise of ad nauseam.
The main changes to the deck were the addition of chalice of the void and dismember to the board. You can mess around with the numbers pending on what you're expecting more of but I must emphasize that twin, storm and ad naus are abysmal match ups. Chalice does have some solid uses outside of combo such as zoo, affinity (0 and 2) and burn just to name a few.
When it comes to which dragon to play I believe both are good options. Of course certain situations can occur where one dragon can be better than the other but I never found myself wanting stormbreath. I lean towards favoring thundermaw moreso since it has a faster clock and some utility against creatures like birds of paradise and lingering souls. I wouldn't fault anyone for playing stormbreath as both have their merits.
Another thing that I would like to address is the use of simian spirit guide and mind stone/coldsteel heart. Simply put, accelerating out powerful threats such as a planeswalker, blood moon or even a dragon is extremely relevant in the current meta. I prefer the option of the mind stone cantrip over the fixing coldsteel heart can provide but either one is fine.
I've had a number of people ask me about the deck and they've all had success with the changes made to the board.
I attest to the use of chalice of the void against affinity, bogle, storm, infect. I recommend ratchet bomb as a catch all. my area have a lot of tron player, thereforethe sowing salt and pithing needle for oblivion stone. I have considered thundermaw hellkite, my area is not heavy with faeries deck, America control is more popular, therefore I go for stormbreath. will consider purchasing thundermaw hellkite if the meta shift towards more faeries.
my previous mainboard are as below
3x inferno titan
3x stormbreath dragon
4x solemn simulacrum
4x koth of the hammer
4x blood moon
4x mind stone
3x relic of progenitus
2x anger of god
3x pyroclasm
4x lightning bolts
4x skred
20x snow covered mountain
2x scrying sheet.
I like this build as the relics, mind stone and solemn simulacrum give me acceleration and cantrip for cards and allow me to dig for solution midgame. the only problem is counterspells and bogles that can get out of hand fast.
normally, I sideboard ratchet bomb and chalice of the void against them.
need more tinkering.
one question, does dragon claw negate grapeshot? since grapeshot is a red spell, it's storm copy is also red, therefore trigger dragon claw life gain anility. as for ad nasuem, chalice for 1 for their angel grace and a spellskite should break their combo since it redirect lightning storm to spellskite. I have 2 spellskite in sideboard against twin, just need to have more luck anti their elimination spells and such to stop their combo. 2x spellskite and 2x torpor orb should do the trick. I still have not meet a storm and ad nasuem matchup. will do further testing on these. personally, I find the dismember, pyrite spellbomb and shatterstorm limited. we have enough targeted spells and sweeper to hose affinity. 2x ratchet bomb might just do the tricks.

Spellskite doesn't do too much against Ad Nauseam, since they can pitch lands to change the target of Lightning Storm.
I have played a few games against storm, and usually a Relic of Progenitus could keep them off an active ascension fairly well.

No it doesn't work like that. The copy isn't 'Played' Card. From the Gatherer on Grapeshot "The copies are put directly onto the stack. They aren't cast and won't be counted by other spells with storm cast later in the turn."
I have thought about mindbreak trap, just find its uses limited to storm matchup. I think relics and chalice with blood moon will have to do to hose storm. what would you guys propose against the ad nasuem matchup? my take is chalice for one and blood moon them followed by quick beatdown.

Is this in reference to Wildfire exclusively? What about Burning-Tree Shaman over Boros Reckoner since the minotaur is mediocre? Snow-Covered Forest. There's also Lord of Shatterskull Pass. All you need do is level it once.

There is a new card in Journey Into Nyx that looks strong against Storm. Eidolon of the Great Revel.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
