The reason that I wanted to built this deck was to win from a Elves deck with a umbral mantle infinite mana combo. The problem is, when I get a edge and having a ton of life. I can't win because they just block my giant Ajani's pridemate or champion of the parish. I know the deck isn't perfect but what do cards does this deck need to win? More Serra Ascendant? Brave the elements (creatures can still be blocked by 1/1 myr tokens...)? I play with the deck in a casual environment, so modern restrictions matter less.
He uses umbral mantle, how about just path to exile the darned thing? Otherwise, volcanic fallout should do the trick....

Huh... are you sure those Swords to Plowshares aren't Path to Exile? The deck is supposed to be Modern...
EDIT: never mind that; I failed to read the last sentence.
Anyway, if your problem consists of 1-power chump-blockers, Hero of Oxid Ridge should do the trick; he will render the smaller elves and the opponent's myr useless against your attackers and give them all a power boost as they attack. It also adds a +1/+1 counter to your champion, should you have it out as well.

The card nearly every spoiled Magic player dreams of:
Jace's Trolling ---
Instant
Split Second
Exile target spell, then return Jace's Trolling to its owner's hand.
"Yeah, sure... when pigs fly."
-Mark Rosewater about printing this card
Some tough choices because there are lots of other ways to go about making an annoying deck like this. I could drop some of the lifegain and go keldon marauders and stormblood berserkers, but it then norin starts being less worthwhile and the deck really really changes.
I've also toyed with the following cards, but many of them end up being too cute by half.
(1) Weathered Wayfarer
(2) Genesis Chamber
(3) Cloudstone curio
Some things I should actually try to test
(1) Green soul-warden type leyline
(2) Ajani Vengeant
(3) Ajani's Pridemate
(4) Mayor of Avabruck
(5) Blade Splicer
(6) Mirran Crusader
(7) Hero of Bladehold/Oxid Ridge
(8) Gideon's Avenger (seems good with Glare, but probably too greedy)
For other people really stuck on humans (that might want to drop norin) you should really just consider playing allies since the naya allies are pretty much all human and champion of the parish gives that allies deck another desperately needed aggressive 1 drop.
Ok, so I decided to go back closer to the roots of this deck for last night's Overdrive! I ended up losing my first match on time, which is a definite danger with this deck - I also lost on time in a 1v1 queue earlier that evening (against storm, because he played empty the warrens for about 30, and my Soul Warden kept triggering my searing meditation). Aside from those two losses, the deck is 1 and 1 so far, beating a burn-heavy zoo deck, and losing to an affinity deck that got inkmoths going right away. Anyway, my opponent in Overdrive! was Diamonti, who eventually won the tournament, so I figured it isn't all that shameful a loss
The manabase is a bit messy, because I wanted to be able to cast Leyline if I didn't have it in the opener, and possibly to splash something green if needed.
As for notes - the deck can be really slow, so it would be nice to have some better way to punch through damage. I sided in the students pretty often, but maybe a Serra Ascendant or two would be good.
Disenchant or something similar might be a good idea, but I'm not loving the reactive cards. It might be better to just take out the tutors and bullets and find some way to streamline the plan of Norin + Champion or Norin + Chamber or Norin + Leyline/Warden + Meditation.

Ranger of Eos tutors for Norin, and the deck tends to slow down opposing decks enough to get time to find one. I've rarely had a game where the problem was not finding a Norin - mostly the problem has been that it takes a long time to win when you win, so I run out of time on my clock.

the latter. as soon as path to exile goes on the stack, norin's ability triggers and "poof", he's gone. As path to exile goes to resolve, it sees no target and is countered upon resolution.
This looks like a great deck as I play human tribal for standard. Here's My take. I decided to add the the family cat Ajani Pridemate to the mix instead of Genesis Chamber. The chamber in my opinion creates too many chump blockers for our non-invasive beaters. Volt Charge though, is great for both champion and pridemate
I like searing meditation for this deck. The life gain from soul's attendants/norin/genesis chamber has the potential of taking out multiple x/2 creatures a turn without requiring you to invest additional cards.
Mark of asylum might also help in some heavy burn match ups or enable this deck to include board wipes that will be one sided. Blasphemous act, volcanic fallout, etc. I've found in playing similar decks that if the opponent is restricted to bolting your life total, with your life gain enablers firmly planted on the field, you have a great chance of winning. Not that burn is all that rough, but zoo uses their helix and bolt to open up pathways and eliminate combo pieces. Restricting them to just path would help vs. the biggest section of the meta.
@ SyntaxError Boros Garrison is probably the cheapest you can get.
Looking at the Dark Acension spoilers, the only card I'd consider for this deck is Thraben Doomsayer. Other than beening a constant ETB trigger. He can boost myr tokens and Pandemonium damage, Which could be kinda cool.
Is there a better way to work my sideboard to get an advantage against decks that go big early? I've had this deck both outlast others and win early, even surviving 3 Through the Breached Emrakuls and 1 hardcasted in a single game. Decks that get mana quick though are hard to shut down, especially Green and Blue tron decks that can consistently hardcast Eldrazi. 3 Blood Moon doesn't solve the problem. Ideas I've tossed around so far are Cauldron Haze, *** and Act of Treason but none seem to fit the bill for my problem- any ideas?
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Yes. I for one would like to see some development on the idea.

I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity and boycotting overpriced singles. Sig this to join the cause for a more affordable Magic the Gathering.
I didn't enter this tournament but I did run this in Lantern's first Modern tournament. I'm a big fan of developing this deck if other people are too. Right now my decklist is posted elsewhere. I want to get more feedback but not without testing the suggestions I've already been given. I'm considering going back to Wr right now, even though Wrb has been working for me.
Still there hasn't been much activity in this thread so if it keeps up that way then it's probably safe to say it's run its course. :/
I played this deck all through the modern ptq season, and posted my tournament records on Reddit. You guys were a pretty huge influence on the deck, just wanted to say thanks now that people seemed to have started posting again.
I am currently working on a different style decklist for Norin, and had no idea about this thread. I will begin working anew on a decklist(s) and ideas. I have some ideas, but I want to at least give them a shot against some of my other decks which are lower tier before posting the ideas up here and seeing what I need to tweak. I have gained a lot of different ideas thanks to this thread though. I will have a list posted by friday at the latest with some testing results vs. what I run into on cockatrice.
Thixotropic: Your decklist didn't show up when I clicked the link. :/
Can't wait to see what you're brewing Aerron. Even if they don't work out you should post your thought process so we can get the ideas flowing.
Right now I'm thinking about an RG or Naya build. I don't typically like Green but it gives us some interesting options. I want to explore blue as a splash too but looking around to see what it could add to the deck is making me think there's a good reason blue isn't discussed much.
My original attempt @ Norin was more based around Confusion in the Ranks. I didn't do much testing on Cockatrice w/ it vs. other people, more just vs. my other decks (Bant Aggro, Leveler combo, RU Land control pestertwin, GBW LG) and some other less notable ones). I usually give most of my decks a run thru vs. Bant Aggro before I vs. other ppl to get a feel for the deck and try and figure out if something is missing.
Back when Extended was still moderately played, I had considered running a RB Confusion in the Ranks deck for the PTQ shortly after WWK, but it kept shifting towards a RB Meta-hate deck every time I made adjustments. I ended up running a different deck (RU land control) for that tournament and went 1-5. I dropped the idea until I heard about Modern format. By then I hit my "planeswalker phase", and the 1st 2 decks I tinkered with were Confusion in the Ranks and my RU Land Control. In the first tests, I originally ran Ousts, but I eventually dropped them for Chandra and tutors. I did notice that this variant was too slow to get off the ground vs a lot as I started working on more decks. I also considered running a land destruction variant Confusion, but I never got around to it.
This is what I've started testing since I perused this thread:
Mark of Asylum helps keep our creatures alive vs. burn and Pandemonium. Can't say I haven't liked not having it so far in testing, but I'm thinking 2 would be better. Got face-bashed by faeries, then I realized I should have some sb Wrath/Chain Reaction. Got close on Tron, but didn't draw Dust Drinker, so couldn't stave it off for long and got Iona/mana flooded. Multiple Pandemoniums make for crazy shenanigans, so next test I think may look like this:
Hello Everyone, here is my attempt to build a Norin deck. It works quite well,
if i remember right i just lost one match against Seismic Assault and
won 8 in a row on cockatrice (i know its not very significant)
anyways here my side notes on the deck after a bit of testing. I thinks it is pretty strait
forward, everything good that can be triggered by norin and cost 2 or less is in the deck.
- Glitterfang works as a poors man norin here, it triggers erverything except Champion of the Parish,
and though he is not as close as good(no evasion, costs every round), he brings steady creature drops. absolutly must play imho
- No Serra Ascendant he just sucks here, when we have more then 30 life, we will win anyways!
- No Ranger of Eos i think he is too slow. he brings t5 just 2 cmc1 creatures.
- I am not sure about Searing Meditation it could be good, but not sure, actually i never drew it, and at the moment i think, it does not do alot.
