Went 3-2 this week at FNM. Beat R/G Aggro (2-1), Affinity (2-1), Naya Superfriends (2-1). Lost to American Control (0-2), Jund (0-2). I feel like I got really unlikely this week with mulligans and dredges. I felt really weak in all of my matches. My losses were due to having everything countered / burned away, which usually isn't a problem. American Control just countered everything viable I played. Jund took my enablers both games with Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek. My Lotleth Troll got countered or burned away both matches, so I couldn't recur my Gravecrawlers and Vines. Even in my wins, I hardly drew anything I brought in from my SB vs the normal aggro decks, especially Affinity. Hopefully, I have better luck this week.

I played a 20 people FNM this week with no good results.
Round 1 - Some kind of ramp monsters deck, with Domri Rade, Primalcrux and things like that. I didn't find Vengevines in the early turns and I was overwhelmed in both matches. Obviously, my removal (Lightning axes, Abrupt Decay and Darkblast) was inefficient against such big creatures. I lost 0-2.
Round 2 - UWR control. First match he could't counter and kill everything so at the end he wasn't able to stop my swarm getting back from the yard. In the second match he didn't find his graveyard hate and lost the same way. I won 2-0.
Round 3 - Soul sisters with Genesis Chamber and Norin. First match he won thanks to an enormous Ajani Pridemate flinged directly to my face. Second match I won thanks to a lot of tokens generated via Genesis Chamber. No time for the final match so 1-1.
Round 4 - Polymorph. First game he polymorphed a Iona with no board presence on my side. Second one I was winning the life race and some removal as backup when suddenly an Elesh Norn appeared from a triggered Windbrisk Heights the same turn I killed the target of a Polymorph (he missplayed -could have been tried to attack first instead of playing Polymorph- but anyways I needed two removal in my hand). Lost 0-2.
Every time I come back to check this thread (the deck interests me some) the lists I see being posted are relying less and less on the Dredge interaction with Faithless Looting, so why not just run a BG "value" ZombieVine? I don't have any testing with this idea, but I'd much rather just be casting Inquisition of Kozileks and Diregraf Ghouls than BoP or Looting, if the heart of my strategy is to make my opponents removal bad and stop combo decks from going off. Something like this:
@b07, don't know if you care, but my latest build changes went: -1 Grim Lavamancer, +1 Stinkweed Imp in the mainboard. I love the dredging with Imp, especially since he's recurring removal versus everything but Thundermaw Hellkite, Mirran Crusader, & Twin combos.
I updated the deck list a few posts back on this page.

Are there any good Jund versions of DredgeVine that have been showing recent tournament results that have been recorded via Modern dailies on MTGO or even PTQs or SCG coverage or GP coverage?
Some number of Cavern of Souls (1 or 2, at most, since I imagine you want red or green on turn one if you're not playin' zombies) could go a long way towards hedging the deck's bets vs. counterspell builds.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

I think this could be the second "Lotleth Troll" I was claiming for this deck some posts ago, although the fact you need to pay mana for it to work is a con.
What do you think, guys? Will it be viable in Dredgevine?
Life's Legacy, the green instant has been recieving my attention. Its very good when its good, but its not very good at all when its not. BTW, I'm not dead

Life's Legacy doesn't seem to do that much. I'd rather choose Hunter's Instinct. If we're on that line, why don't we just play Harmonize? ButAltar's Reap has instant speed, which makes it strictly better than Legacy. Realistically, the only thing we want to sac are Gravecrawler, Stinkweed Imp, and Golgari Thug, but they only have 1/2 power each. Everything else we don't want to sac: Loltroll, Vine, etc.

I know the matchup pretty well and i actualy like it. His gameplan doesn't interact that well with mine, countering and burning out my creatures doesn't help him that much.
The only way how he could win is with a Young Pyromancer getting out of hand for masses of chumpblockers and burning me out.
Boarding: + 2 Rakdos Charm + 2 Darkblast - 4 Bloodghast
I'm up to a fairly slow start but can establish some creatures on the board to pressure him. I drop to 9 with him having a flipped delver and a snapcaster on Board I got 2 Birds a vengevine and a lotleth troll.
Afraid of doublebolt i chump his delver 2 Turns with my Birds and kill him with the groundcreatures. After the game he reveals 2 Bolts.
2nd Round against GW-Hatebears
He's new to our local shop and doesnt know my deck, but pathing my vengevines is pretty good anyway. I made a pretty severe mistake in this game, after him having pathed 2 of my vengevines I get another on board, with Tymaret in graveyard. The next Turn I tap out for a creature that actualy doesn't provide any advantage. If I had left up 2 mana for tymarets ability he would not have been able to path my 3rd Vengeevine. Was still able to beat him with Lotleth troll anyway.
Beeing on the play is a pretty significant advantage here. Needlessly to say I loose the dieroll.
1st game I loose to him beeing on the play. If i recolect the boardstate right I would have won the other way round.
Boarding: + 3 Abrupt Decay + 2 Rakdos Charm + 1 Golgari Charm + 1 Creeping Corrosion - 4 Gravecrawler - 4 Bloodghast
I dont want creatures that cannot play def against him, so I take all 8 "cannot block" out.
The 2nd Game was pretty grindy and with enough dredged Ancient grudges I can win this.
3rd Game. He takes a mulligan to 6. I keep 3 Lands, Bird, Bolt , 2 Ancient Grudge, drawing Lotleth Troll, Stinkweed Imp ....gg
4th Round vs RATs
Okay this one was strange. I know the guy playing the deck and I know he likes to brew.
Cards in his deck
He managed to stall out the board after some turns. The game went pretty grindy and I wasnt able to atack at all after some time.
But I knew that i still had 3 outs for this situation, he was on 6 life with 6 creatures and i was on 13 life with 7 so Rakdos charm was a hit. Tymaret would have been able to end the game as well.
I stopped dredging and flashbacked 2 Faithless Lootings. Found a Rakdos Charm and won.
4-0
I like to play this deck a lot and I would play it more often if there would be more modern events nearby.
I think Bloodghast is the worst creature in the deck against fast decks, he cannot block and is slow as a clock himself.
On the other Hand I don't want to miss him against any control-deck, so I wont replace him.
Okay I think thats enough for know, thanks for reading and I hope you like my list.
Went 3-1 this past weekend myself. My deck list hasn't changed much since my posting earlier on this page. Only change I'm back and forth on is -1 Stinkweed Imp, +1 Golgari Thug. Only reason is for the Avatar of Woe returning it to be used if milled or killed.
I played Zoo (2-0), Twin (1-2), Hatebears (2-1), & American Control (2-0). I don't know how other players consistently beat Twin, but that is my hardest match-up with my build. Against aggro, I block their guys and recur my own which usually kills the field. Abrupt Decay primary targets are Goyf, Liliana, and Reckoner. Other removal in the form of creatures helps clear the way. An aggressive build usually brings control to their knees I notice since countering does absolutely nothing against us.

I currently don't have a decklist to post as I can't get to have a good balance between all my cards since going 4color (UBRG).
I just saw a card in a Wizards article and thought it could be a useful 1-of perhaps;
Would Whispering Madness be of any use? It is card draw and against the right opponent a lot of cards (UBR).
I'll keep testing with my 4color decklist, I might post it down the line should I find a list I feel comfortable with.
EDIT: Doing some random search I came up on this guy; Trusted Advisor - the +2 hand ability is cool but not what we're looking for, on the the other hand, the bounce back one is much more appealing and useful. It could act as a "second gravecrawler" casting it each turn for only 1 blue mana. Opinions?
Both are good finds. The Whispering Madness is a good card for a creature with trample, most likely LolTroll. Perhaps getting him out of Bolt range is a good idea with that. Play test and let us know. I really like the Trusted Advisor option more though. I don't play blue, but if you dropped red, I could see this as a potential 2-3 of. I wouldn't want 4, but definitely a great find.

I haven't been able to test because of being super busy + not having proxies readied :/
Bridge from Below never stays online for more than a turn. Nim Devourer is too slow. You're not casting it. We already have Dregscape Zombie for this purpose. Plus, if you don't have a second creature to sac, you have to sac Devourer. To me, Crypt of Agadeem seems too mana intensive. What exactly are we trying to cast for that kind of mana? A Stinkweed Imp, should be the only thing, seeing as we only play 20-21 lands. If you pay three to activate Crypt, we already have three. You certainly can't cast Vengevine for triple black.
I looked at cards we run. To get Necromancer's Stockpile going, you need at least 14 sources to hit it correctly over 90% of the time. We don't want to be discarding Lotleth Troll, but Gravecrawler certainly. Remember, in a lot of decks, Troll is a secondary win condition. Getting him out of bolt range + Trample wins games pretty fast. You waste a turn casting Stockpile, then another turn discarding to it, then you won't have enough mana to bring back Gravecrawler for another turn. That's three turns. I'm going to say no and that it's too slow.

Hey everyone. This is my first time posting on this thread, but I took Dredgevine to a Modern tourney tonight and wanted to post the results. Sadly though there were only three of us who showed up which means I only got two actual games in along with a bye. Still, I'll share the list here and continue to update as I play in other tourneys. We have a two regular Modern nights a week at our shop and Fridays get a better turnout. Anyway, here's the list:
In playing it tonight I only faced Bogles and Affinity, but in my meta we also have RUG Control, Soul Sisters, UR Delver, Melira Pod and Mono-Green Devotion, so I'm hoping to get some more testing in against the other matchups. I'll keep you posted.
I have always loved the Rites package in the old Dredgevine lists from the older days. I give you props for running it.
But, without any removal with the exception of 2 Darkblast, and cards that are usually sideboard cards, how do you even win? Life from the Loam is good, but as a 2 of with 22 lands, it definitely seems out of place. I can see the Gnaw to the Bone from taking all the damage with fetch and shock lands.
Personally, just from looking at this without testing it, I think that moving the Darkblast to the sideboard and cutting Life from the Loam maybe altogether and replacing them with either Abrupt Decay or Lightning Bolt would do you a lot of good. Even Lightning Axe has potential to work here, but without some decent removal, I find it near impossible to push through all of the necessary damage. Bolt deals the final blow to players, Abrupt Decay deals with Goyf and Lilliana. Getting these out of the way is essential.
Against the decks you said, Darkblast works well vs Soul Sisters, Affinity and Delver. It is terrible vs Pod, Control and Mono-G. Just seems logical to me to be a sideboard card. When I first started playing Dredgevine a year ago, I was gung ho on Darkblast as a 3-4 of because it could dredge. After a few months, I decided to switch it to the SB and replaced it with Bolt. Where I didn't reuse it, I was able to kill the annoying creatures Darkblast couldn't deal with and I started becoming so much more consistent and faster. Just trying to provide some useful suggestions. I'm sure someone from this thread can back me up on this.
Alright, so I have started playing Dredgevine online. It's been relatively successful so far. It is much more resistant to graveyard hate than I was lead to believe, which was nice. (I say this, it may actually be that there is just less hate right now.)
It's a pretty traditional list, I believe. I got bits from the first post of this thread (Outdated, I know,), Frank Lepore's article that he did on it back in February (Also outdated,), and a few comments from skimming this thread. It works fairly well, I think I've won more than I've lost since I started using it. I think that the sideboard needs some work, and I feel like I'm often wanting some more cards like Grisly Salvage. It also can have trouble actually getting Vengevines out of the 'yard sometimes, but that just be the way I play.
