So this next set could give us more to work but but at the same time most is likely too high CMC to fit besides the Soulfire Grand Master...
On topic of deck list I'd still like to see another basic or shock in those lists. Anyone who's going to realize that fetches are gonna go out of control is gonna also note that Ghost Quarter or any LD will stop you dead. A Path or two and a GQ suddenly becomes very strong with a Boom//Bust and Molten Rain waiting to just say "No" to any ability to play spells over 3 CMC if even. Also another reason to maybe start packing EotGR as a two of main.
The deck will ways be viable. The question ends up being what changes we have to make. We may have to main deck some larger board removal like Flameslash, the Overload 4 damage, Dismember, and it's like for a field full of Rock variants. IF people till run so tight on their manabases, then Path, Molten Rain, and Ghost Quarter become our friends heavily again. I still feel this will be a strong option no matter what. We run plenty of fetches for Boom//Bust to be strong too!
With Pod gone we have a good plan in maindeck loading 2-3 Thalia(spelling?).
I was actually dropping my count on Figure the other day but we might need the 4/4 body after all now. Rock will be wide open as stated before and the new Delver 4/5 is a little scary... Graveyard hate?
Coming over from Burn to give this archetype a go! I have a lot of cards to acquire for the deck and can't wait to run it. What is most likely going to be the most staple build taking the FTR cards into account? Also, will I be able to get away with running all the KTK fetches (mires, heaths, foothills) instead of buying arid mesas (suspect theyre in the next set and don't want to invest yet) ?
Mesa's are key to pulling the exact lands you need. Can you get by without them? Yes, but you will see the difference in no time.
The white is actually the expensive half of the decks.... Any Walkers you choose, Path to Exile is going to continue to skyrocket, and then the creatures. It's still a far cheaper deck than most at least, but the critical cards are very critical!
FRF; We haven't really gotten any where with discussing them or much testing either... Monestary Montor is powerful but too slow. Soulfire Grand Master is wide open to removal but might see some play for late game reach. The rest? Maybe Temur Battle Rage on a Lynx? IDK. Not exactly like FRF was designed with Modern in the brain.

Mire/Heath/Foothill should be workable. That said I'd expect it to be more painful on average as well as not working well with Blood Moons since that configuration biases towards grabbing Mountains, meaning more often than not converting a fetch into a White source would involve fetch-shocking up a Sacred Foundry.
That is, unless the bulk of your spells are Red anyway.
Hello guys!
I am brand new to the forum and a diehard boros fan. Still dreaming of the day that boros becomes a tier-1 modern deck. After many years as a kitchen table player, i have finally started playing more competitively.
My deck is pretty speedy snd explosive with the abillity to change from beatdown creature deck to pure burn if you have the right hand. Red and White provide excellent coverage, so there is no card type or card mechanic that cannot be dealt with.
Lifegain is the most frustrating thing our opponents can do nevertheless.
I believe Flame Slash is really helpful early game against those pesky Wall of Omens and other early blockers.
My sideboard has no affinity hate because there is no robots player in my group. If i had to be prepared for them, i would put 2 Stony Silence, 2 Shattering Spree and perhaps 1 Electrickery.
Imposing Sovereign comes in against creature based decks such as Pod(R.I.P.), Zoo, Merfolks, Elfs, you get the point.
Harm's Way is my all time favourite white card, and comes in against damage oriented decks such as Burn, aggro match-ups, mirror, etc.
Arc Trail is excellent against speedy decks with low toughness and many mana dorks.
What do you think about my choices?
Skullcrack is a card i want to try as a 3-of in my sideboard to hate lifegain. Also, i think Collateral Damage has potential in boros. Our one drops become dead cards after the fourth turn and card like Keldon will die anyways. Will try it as a 2-of in the future.
Regarding the bans, i am happy for Treasure Cruise saying goodbye, though i liked Dig Through Time. We have a new chance with the changes but to be honest, i have never played against a pure ''The Rock'' deck so i am not sure about this match-up. Perhaps Blood Moon?
Pod was a fair match and one of the few that deciding who would go first played a central role in the final winner.
I am an old school Boros player (aka 2012). I think the deck has some good tools in it from the past and the removal of pod from the format wants to make me explore some older aggro decks. This was the boros deck I 4-0ed a daily with in 2012, what new additions are there to the deck since then? Is Taylor Swiftspear a new good thing now for the deck? Obviously the sideboard needs and main needs some tuning since then, but the idea is still solid.
Bob, o-ring is a bit slow, do you specifically use it as anti-walker in addition to creatures? Journey to Nowhere and now and addition of Chain to the Rocks are excellent choices. May I suggest running back through the last few pages specifically and see what the discussions led to. Do keep in mind most of that was in the Pod and Delver heavy meta. Swords of x and y have been good choices to look at based on what you see for meta to be fighting. If you can't battle hard against Rock or Jund creatures the G and B pro-swords might be a good idea. Delver will still be part of the meta but not as fast, so SoFire&Ice is still a good option as it provides extra draws, creature removal or direct damage, and will still be strong against Jeskai flavored decks like Geist Tempo
In fact storm is even more dominant than delver! So those two were much useful.
I see a lot of relatively ''cheap'' and easy to build tier 1 or 2 decks in my group, mainly because of the card prices. This why i have never played against a true ''The Rock'' and a powerful ''Jund'' deck. The core of those decks is too high for most players.
Ash Zealot was in the deck before i joined my local community. It just happened to be useful. She has never left the deck since then.
Dryad Militant came in after as a better Elite Vanguard. She does not have the power of the other three one-drops, but still she deals four damage at least usually.
Now with the tier hierarchies reevaluated, let's work towards hitting developing competitive. We used to be a stickied arche not too long ago, this is totally within our grasp!
I'm still planning on rocking my Tempo Boros project come February. Shelving the Eidolons because I don't think they'll be as useful as they'd have been back when TC was legal. Along with Grafdigger's Cage getting benched, that leaves a gaping 4 card hole in my sideboard.
Boros Charms 3 and 4 look like they'll be making their way back into the side, so that leaves 2 slots to debate. I'm thinking a third Volcanic Fallout's ok if Delver is still a lingering force (which I expect it to be, assuming people who got hooked on TC recognize that the deck was still pretty solid even before Khans).
#15 should probably be some sort of oops-I-win against niche decks, like RIP for Living End or Celestial Flare for Bogles, but to hell with it I'm just gonna run a second Ajani Vengeant like old times. I dunno, odds are I'm gonna eat copious amounts of dirt over Siege Rhino, but it shouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
I mean, who casts Siege Rhino when there's a Blood Moon out?
Maybe I should up my Blood Moon count to 3 in the main... totally next level those Junk pilots with it...
With your four Lynx are you sure about upping the Bloodmoons? I'm still not sold on Blood Moons worth right now.
Fallout will probably be best for Boggles and Geist UW/URW tempo, as well as against Affinity. If I try to run Fallouts I almost want to give Reckoner a shot...
I'm trying to tool up be ready for a Rock heavy environment. So Pro Green and Pro Black. The likes of Mirrian Crusaders are being pulled up to be Sideboard status again. I might drop my third Caller of the Pride in favor of direct pressure and fitting in Boros Charms which still hasn't happened.
An updated list should be incoming in a bit since I change up my mana base some recently as well having gotten some Tarns which changes my fetches and ability to trigger other things. LD might still be my focus in Sideboarding options. Zo-Zu and Tunnel Ingus are cute but WRECK Scapeshift, Titan Bloom if it doesn't hit it's instant win, and can eek out extra pain on them when I Path and Quarter them.
Eh, they do suffer for it, but I don't usually play Lynxes expecting them to be live by the time Blood Moon is an open line of play.
I expect to face a problem where my trying to be a tempo deck doesn't work so well when real tempo decks are positioned to return. It was one thing when Twin was dead and Delver was being hyper-aggro, it's another when the allure of TC no longer exists.
Mirran Crusader does look pretty appealing as a sideboard option to combat Junk-Rock types, though.
Hmmm, i would also include Mana Tithe dear Seraphinwolf. I was thinking about it lately and had some playtesting against a couple of my friends, and the results well pretty positive. Especially against midrange and tempo decks it can cause a lot of harm. Think playing against Junk or Living End and countering out of the blue their defensive creature, for example Kitchen Finks, or their key spell, Living End itself.
I know it is a niche tactic that can turn out being a double edge sword, but it is the element of suprise that makes it so strong.
I am thinking giving it a try as a 3-of in the sideboard next Friday Night.
Hellrider was a key card of my deck for quite a long time, but i dropped it when i saw that it was actually stronger with only one and two drops. Maybe in a WR token deck i can see it as a 3-of. Grand Abolisher can be included in white centered boros decks quite easily. He can also fit in a more midrange approach.
I have played the deck under different angles for many years, from tempo to pure aggro, and from midrange to synergestic mechanics (Balefire Liege and hybrid WR spells). I tend to believe that we are at our best when we play aggro/burn. Perhaps it is just me.
It is true though, that the deck can have many forms, so i can't wait to see what other people have come up with it.
The 4 CMC cards are just sitting there as leftovers from old versions of Standard decks long disassembled now. Hero of Oxide Ridge and Restoration Angel might be the only ones to have a meritable uses. Even the mighty power of the Hero of Bladehold is just too slow and cumbersome...
Many of those Speculative cards don't gain us anything we actually need. If we are gonna hit and X Spell it is likely to be Bonfire of the Damned which at the VERY least has the chance to help out creatures trade up and/or give a little more reach to out burn spells. At it's best can kill our opponent or wipe their board. Collateral Damage has a shot but we already have so many choices that do the same thing. From and early board state we can Shard Volley and go down a land to keep tempo and damage flowing, but losing a creature or stuck with a deck card is a no go in my book.
DotMatrix or one of the other guys has been championing the use of Mana Tithe for a while and it hold a good standing as a good meta call fairly often. Especially if we run any form of other disruption. At very least we might miss their first spell to catch them on a second that they felt safe to tap out for. There are a few more white and red based counters to consider but Tithe get a good solid thumbs up.
Yeah, Mana Tithe gets my thumbs up.
It's not always the right card to play, but it always gets that priceless look on everyone's face when they realize they walked into White countermagic.
I've been looking at Alesha, Who Smiles at Death closely too, Seraphin. For those long, drawn out games I think it'd be an invaluable card. Question is how many do I run?
The Qhost Quarters are looking very good as even stronger against many of the decks on the ProTour than the Tectonic Edges since it comes on line the turn it comes down. Considering Affinity and Poison are rocking things hard!
I just can't get out of my head that I need an LD heavy board but also like I'm just missing something to put me into the range I need this to be... I keep coming down to the same list just about and can't help feeling like I need to do a lot of "cut this card by 1 and this by 2 to add another card slot" kind of thinking, but at a total loss WHAT to cut or even what I would add.

No Arid Mesa yet, so little lynx does not hit always for 4. I hope Mesa gets reprinted as soon as possible. About the other cards, i know the Marauders are outdated because of Eidolon of the Great Revel but i still prefer them. Dryad Militant is the best Savannah Lions up to date and Ash Zealot hits fast and hates quite a few decks.
Goblin Guide, Steppe Lynx and Monastery Swiftspear are self-explanatory.
I believe Flame Slash is really helpful early game against those pesky Wall of Omens and other early blockers.
