Hi guys. This is my first time in the forums. I went the mono u tron-like path and it seems good. Took it to a couple tournaments and had decent results, but I am new to modern after having been a standard player for a while so I should be doing better I think as I get better.
A bit greedy with Anger of the Gods, Counterflux and other RR cards, but I tested it (4 TP matches - lost to UB Fae, won vs 4c Gifts, GW Hatebears and UWR) and it's okay. The changes I did were, MD: -1 Mountain +1 Stomping Grounds, SB: -1 Shatterstorm +1 Ancient Grudge.
Deck performed quite well, all game losses were close and due to some inferior decision I took. I can see replacing the Shattersmtorm with a Vandalblast here. Shatterstorm is awesome and too slow at the same time. With Vandalblast you can do Gifts piles like Ancient Grudge, Vandalblast, Snapcaster, Pyroclasm and that seems better.
Didn't boarded in Counterflux in any match but still open to play a Dispel (or even Spell Pierce) over it. Another card I would like to play is Threads of Disloyalty, but it's hard to find the slot for it.
Yeah, when you have Breach you can pile 3 Eldrazi + something else (a Wurmcoil or any other thing you might want, even another Breach). There's also the Tron pile (Academy Ruins and Tolaria West can also be involved). It's also a good tutor for specific hate cards (see Affinity above - the SB has a lot of 1-ofs because of that) and awesome as counter bait and bluffing option.
This guys video is so hard to watch, missing on board plays making so many bad plays, can't even know how the deck would fair.

I don't really like to criticize people (especially on the internet), but I must undoubtedly agree with Chapman here.
I'm really sorry for how I'll put it, but...
While I was watching these videos, I was extremely discontent with so many misplays that were made in such a short amount of time - from terrible mulliganing decisions, to awful mana management, including "tempo-disadvantage plays" (i.e., playing backward on this deck's modus operandi) and casting stuff straight into his opponents possible (and expectable) answers!
And in the end he even wonders something like if "this deck is good enough or was it just luck that the original pilot had" in order to do well on a DE ... Quite absurd to me...
Though I understand lucashungaro's reason on linking to it, I'm sorry for the player on the video, and I preemptively apologize for my bitter remarks, but it really made me sleep angry, after watching it - and this comes from someone (me) who didn't even finish his Mono U Tron deck yet, and thus, consider himself a "noob" with this kind of deck...
Nah, it's okay, he made some awful plays. In the article he said he would play the deck for the next week and write about it again, so I expected he would improve a lot... but in the end he wrote about KCI "Tron" and gave up on UR Tron. Well, playing like that you can imagine why.
I'll record some replays from my games with the deck and post here. I'm not a world class player, but I'm already used to this deck, so I can pilot it a bit better (I hope! :D).
Ok, so here we go: a replay of one game from each match during an 8 man I recently finished 3-0. Not as good as a recording of live matches like the linked article above, but should give a better idea of how the deck works.
It's quite different than MonoU Tron. Most games will end pretty quickly. Against slower decks like UWR and 4c Gifts you'll likely play the long game and win by hardcasting Emrakul.
Versus Affinity: http://youtu.be/AuB0wI1derQ (a big misplay here was using Electrolyze only after Battle Cry triggered, so I took more damage than necessary - luckily it didn't matter in the end)
I drew pretty well in these games and also took some risks like keeping a hand with no colored mana against Jund - games in that matchup should go long and with only one source I would be well positioned, so I kept the hand.
I'll try to record some more, maybe some "live" ones (not replays).
Using the "old" client, on the right side there's a tab called "Games". Clicking there you can see a list of games you've played. Double click to watch the replay.
Hi guys. Im a mono u player looking to build into UR. Im just wondering, how different is the gameplan for UR than mono u? and is this deck more difficult to pilot than mono u (Mono u is very skill intensive for me, but ive put up decent results at my lgs)?
So, the early-mid game plan for all Ux Tron decks is the same: stall. Use cards like Remand, Repeal, Condescend, Pyroclasm, Electrolyze and friends to attain card advantage while staying alive, developing your mana and setting up your winning turns.
With UR Ton, plan A is to dig for Through the Breach and an Eldrazi, preferably Emrakul. Plan B is the long game, eventually hardcasting Eldrazi, getting the Mindslaver lock or winning with Wurmcoil Engine.
IMHO, this deck is a bit easier to pilot than Mono U Tron because you have the Breach "combo" to win out of nowhere. On the other hand, sometimes it's tricky to know when to go for it.
UR Tron is still the most fun Modern deck I've played. I stopped playing it because Scalding Tarn's price was ridiculous, so I sold all my copies. Nowadays I have Mono U Tron and Scapeshift, which are fun deck, but nothing compares to Through the Breach + Emrakul.
Thanks for your help, lucashungaro
One more question. I have seen some Ur builds use Compulsive Research. how do the CR builds compare to gifts builds?
Both are fine. Gifts allows you to bluff and force your opponents to make difficult decisions. Sometimes they'll mess up and you'll get some free wins.
In the end I settled on Gifts because it also adds flexibility to your sideboard. On the other hand, you can cast Compulsive Research earlier, which can be very relevant in some games. It's a trade-off.
Hey! Weird, I received no notifications about your post.
Nice modifications! I ran Godo a couple times last year, but I ended up cutting it because I had to play 2 Batterskulls (didn't want to draw one and play Godo for no value) and that watered the deck down, IMHO.
When Ral Zarek was spoiled I wanted to try it, but never did it. Part of me thinks it's diluting from the plan A, while also being to fragile against creature decks and Bolt. Another option is Keranos, probably in the SB.
Yeah, Keranos is an option for the control and grindy matchups. I don't think it's needed if you're already playing Batterskull, since it already provides a hard to remove, resilient wincon. What I like about Keranos is that it can provide massive card advantage.
Not a fan. Remand is freaking awesome when it's good. It's also almost a blank when it's bad, but that's a trade-off I'm willing to accept.
For example, I played against Yasooka's Tezzeret deck (http://www.tcdecks.net/deck.php?id=14453&iddeck=106702) yesterday and Remand was amazing. Lost G1 due to being dumb and not mulliganing and then won G2 and G3 by Remand his planeswalkers and Glen Elendra for a while. G2 I went Breach + Emrakul, G3 hardcast Emrakul. I consider Remand to be part of the immutable core engine of the deck (alongside TfK and the signets).
It's awful against Affinity, Burn, Infect and other decks that will just go under it, but that's fine.
Also, Snapcaster isn't specially good in this deck. It's there to facilitate Gifts piles, but with no cheap spells like Bolt or Path to abuse, it's just average (we have lots of artifacts and expensive spells like Breach/Gifts).
I understand that. But, at the same time, you want to draw multiple Remands early, so playing 4 maximizes the odds. Even late game you can just cycle it, which is fine too.
There seems to be a lot of new tech that can be tried in a more aggro-ish version of UR Tron that still retains the late game madness that all Tron decks have. Ensoul Artifact, Shrapnel Blast and Scuttling Doom Engine can make for an aggro build, that can also use the same cards to protect itself. Ensoul blocks Goyfs, Blast deals with problematic creatures. Connect with the Doom Engine once, then Shrapnel Blast it to deal 17 damage. Thoughts?

Modern:
Bant | U Tron | GW Hatebears | Death and Taxes | Scapeshift | UW Tron | UW Midrange
IMHO, Wurmcoil Engine is miles better than Scuttling Doom Engine. It's super hard to remove (except for Path to Exile) and generates value on every combat phase. Scuttling Doom Engine + Shrapnel Blast is super cute and not really better than anything the deck does already. Breach + Eldrazi is already fragile and expensive enough as a 2 card "combo".
Ensoul Artifact also doesn't help our plan. You get a 5/5 and...? It's one thing in a deck like Affinity that's just trying to get you to 0 ASAP, but turning a Signet into a 5/5 on turn 3 doesn't appear to be that good.
Of course, I believe people should try ideas and find out empirically whether these work or not. Conceptually, I don't like these cards, but who knows.
Has anyone thought of using 1 of Banefire. Alternate win con vs the control decks. I feel like against controlthrough the breach is not really an option unless your hand is stacked with counterspells. So they have to play around that threat the entire time. You can draw, get tons of mana and fire off a huge banefire ftw. I've been running it in place of cyclonic rift and it has won me several games.
Against Control you just play the long game and hardcast Emrakul.
It's hard to "finish" the game with Banefire since we otherwise deal no damage to our opponents. So you would need to cast it for 18+ to win games. Emrakul is cheaper.

Here's his stream channel - www.twitch.tv/joshuaclaytor - let's hope he streams a bit with UR Tron. Here's the video he recorded last week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKVAO59r***&list=UUQnbotFY82WEZAfDylg2tyg
Also, I have updated the primer to better reflect the attributes of the deck and added a more recent list.

The first page of my Cube list also includes my cube workbook for excel, feel free to look at and use it if you would like to.
I decided to post anyway given it's super-rare that someone talks about this deck.

Nice videos/games! Thanks!
These surely give us a better view on this deck in action!
EDIT: Whenever you feel like doing it, it would be great to watch more videos of you playing the deck.
And also, how can one access/record these videos on previously played MOL matches?
