You see lots of decks using the Alara/Tarkir names like Grixis, Jund, Saltai, Mardu etc. However, for two color decks, you see something like RW, UW, GW or BG instead of the Ravnica names Izzet, Rakdos, Boros, Selesnya, etc.
Honestly a big part of it is that a lot if the guild names are kinda long and clumsy to say. Selesnya and Azorious are probably among the worst. I think that Mark Rosewater actually wrote somewhere that they purposefully gave the shards/Khans short, succinct names for exactly this reason.
Yeah, the four syllable names are a bit of a mouthful. But I think for the nerd fest that is the MTG community, we can handle it.
I guess I feel like the names are more flavorful whereas the color designations are kinda bland, plus consistency is always a good thing. Maybe I'll start calling my GW Knights deck Selesnya Knights.
I was wondering why. Any thoughts?

Jund, and Esper, 3 I guess with Mardu. Oh 4, Grixis.
I refuse to use Jeskai, I think it sounds stupid, and UWR is how it must be, forever.
