I have no experience in modern at all. Dont know anything about it. Last week, a friend of mine bought me some cards for my birthday. I think this is a great start for a deck, but I would like some help to give it a direction. I play casual et FNM level. However, I dont mind to put the extra money to make it real good and fun to play. This is the basic cards that I got.
He actually got you some really good stuff. It's a great start to the deck Shaun Mclaren just played (and won a lot) with at GP Minneapolis. Twin's the top deck in the format right now and beats a lot of other decks easily. This is a UWR take on the usually UR or RUG deck. Here's the list, http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=7306&d=241844&f=MO, you already have some of the money cards, but you'll need to dish out some cash for the fetches and the shocks. But you should, because it will most likely perform great at your FNM and it'll be a lot of fun!
You have a fantastic start to a couple great decks. Take a look through the proven twin, kiki pod, and UWR control threads to get some ideas. Make a basic version of one of those decks, go to a couple of local event and see how you do. As you start winning use what you won to try to improve the deck. You've got one seriously cool friend.
Yeah all those cards besides Aether Vial are used in Shaun Mclarens latest version of UWR Control. It's a solid deck and the deck can be heavily customized to your liking and it's one of the mainstays of Modern. But since it's 3-colors you will have to spend a bit on moneny on the manabase.
