If Spell Snare is a thing then could this also have a place? I realize the effect is symmetrical so it kinda screws you too. I was thinking along the lines of a Delver style "one and done" strategy where your goal is to play this guy and ride him to victory. One reason I'd lean towards this strategy is so you don't burn yourself out but cards like Lightning Helix could offset that and still providing removal. Also, if Unearth does not count as being "cast" then it, and similar mechanics, offer ways to circumvent the drawback. Something like Hellapark Elemental would offer you 6 damage and only cost you 3 compared to options that must be cast multiple times like Flashback. The thing is that I seem to be looking towards a burn shell (with Lightning Helix and Hellspark) but you want to cast as few spells of your own as possible while the Eidolon is out so a strategy that requires you to cast 1-3 spells a turn to win is not where you want to be. Thoughts?

You really don't have to try and minimize the drawback in a burn style deck since you should just be going faster, against other burn/aggro decks you side it out on the draw.
If you want to be real fancy with it give it Spirit Link or some form of Lifelink.
Lifelink is a cute idea. I hadn't thought of that. I could also see it in an aggro shell where you don't want to over extend. Could be effective in the mirror punishing your opponent for trying to develop a board presence. Even if they Path it or Bolt it you have traded 2 mana for 3 damage and pulled removal from their hand. If they don't remove it you can continue to punish them for future removal. To me this seems really good but maybe I'm miss evaluating it.

I'd be looking at a red/white hatebears style deck here, using vial to cheat out creatures and prevent the burn. Red/white Death and taxes? It's the least popular variant and I've been meaning to test it out.
