I forgot about this, thanks for the reminder. I found the article he wrote. I know its 7 months ago but he makes some good points.
He has more recent articles (some which includes burn) but you'll need to pay to get past the paywall.

Anyhow I'm all for 2x Shattering Spree since I notice that the Eldrazi-Tron grinders have worked out that we only have Lightning Bolt and Lava Spike in the 1cc slot so unless they have two or if its on turn two its just better to name chalice on 2.
Spree being able to hit chalice at both 1 and 2 is huge imo.

Talking with my play group, we were discussing if Modern had Chain Lightning reprinted in it would it make Mono Red Burn more competitive....add to deck, replace Lava Spike or Rift Bolt or turn Boros into more Mono Red splash . Hmmmm I only wish we had that option to really ponder
My buddy had a great idea since he hates Eldrazi, Eldrazi Tron and RG Tron. Mind you when drunk people come up with card ideas its normally way off base but this would be cool to have
Hot Oven
Enchantment
Indestructible
Players cant play/cast spells from hand, library or graveyard that are 3 or more converted mana cost. If a spell would cause you to discard this card put it onto the battlefield instead. This spell cant be countered.
Chain Lightning would definitely not replace Lava Spike or Rift Bolt in a mono-R deck. It would replace the trash cards you're forced to play in mono-R because there's nothing else, like the couple Magma Jets and Flames of the Blood Hand or other cards that are obviously not that good. It wouldn't replace any Bolt, it would be Bolts 13-16. Even in Boros and Naya, it would replace 2CMC spells rather than replacing Bolts.
It wouldn't even be a hard decision. Drop a couple Blazes and Helices, problem solved.
Each copy is CMC 1. It gets around Chalice because Chalice has a triggered ability that triggers on cast. The copies from Shattering Spree aren't cast, so it only affects the first one and not the Replicated ones.

Thanks, That makes sense. sadly I traded my play set to a Skred player the other day. I'm going to pick up a couple more, this is a good answer for Chalice.
and what decks are doing best in the eldrai tron and deaths shadow meta. i.e. what benefited from them becoming tier 1?
If you don't have any other enchantment hate in your sideboard and it's a blind meta, you really need Wear // Tear. Shattering Spree seems strictly good for Chalice, which is a solid thing to board for. But you really need at least three pieces of enchantment hate in your 75, and really I'd go for all four.

Hey guys! I've been looking at buying into some variation of R/B burn, but I was wondering why those decks don't blay Gonti's Machinations anymke. It seems like a really consistent and good card with all the pain you're taking from lands and your opponents, and could probably be a replacement for helix or Boros Charm. Any thoughts?

People don't play it because it's neither consistent nor good. It's approximately a Rift Bolt speed Lightning Helix. It's a trash topdeck, and in some cases will sit on the battlefield dealing 0 damage while you just lose the game.
Hi there, I'm a relatively new Burn player and am enjoying the deck enormously. I play the Boros variation.
I was wondering, are they any guides on when (not) to mulligan? Also, on sideboard plans on the play and draw against various archetypes including the mirror? Finally, are there any articles on the "trickier" aspects of play? I found these here and there, but have not seen a single collated source...I mean things like using Skullcrack to kill a Kor Firewalker via protection removal, or to negate a possible Deflecting Palm (even if cast first), that kind of thing?
There are some articles linked on the first page of this thread and some are linked on my tappedout list in my signature. Probably one of the best articles to read is the Burn vs. Counters one by Patrick Sullivan. Bottlenecking a control player is how you beat them.
My number one interaction for every new Burn player is one so that you don't get caught by an opponent who doesn't know the rules or one who is malicious: you need 2 targets to cast Searing Blaze (a player and a creature controlled by that player), and the spell will not fizzle due to illegal targets unless both targets become illegal. This means that if they Path their own creature, they still take 3 damage to the face. It's written explicitly in the gatherer rulings for the card, but some people don't know it.
As far as mulligans, I mulligan everything with 4 lands or more. I keep all 2 landers and all 3 landers (though you might mulligan if you're fishing for a key sideboard card, but I tend not to). I keep 1 landers that have a high enough density of 1 drops, though I generally want to see Guide or Swiftspear among them.
Someone posted a google doc of their personal sideboard plan within the last few weeks, though I don't have the link handy.
I'm looking at a Boros build using Inspiring Vantage in place of 4 of the fetches. The list would run 4 vantage, 6 fetches, 4 shocks, and 5 mountain. I feel like it would be much better in mirror or aggro matchups, because it should, at most, fetch into a shock once. But a couple concessions would be made. Searing Blood and Blaze would be swapped, with Blood in the Main, Blaze in the Side. I think that shouldn't hurt. But the other is that, with 6 fetches, even putting in a stomping ground leaves 7 green sources - not enough for D. Rev in the Side. So I'd end up running Wear//Tear. Is the swap worth the significantly less painful mana base?
EDIT: I am currently of the belief that Fatal Push will make hasteless creatures weaker, pushing Nacatal burn aside, whereas mono-red, which can't use PtE to handle Deaths Shadow, will also fall. I currently believe Boros burn will be the best variant going forward.

whats better wear//tear vs shattering spree in a boros build

4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lightning Helix
4 Searing Blaze
4 Skullcrack
3 Arid Mesa
3 Inspiring Vantage
3 Mountain
2 Sacred Foundry
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Wooded Foothills
2 Deflecting Palm
2 Relic of Progenitus
3 Path to Exile
4 Wear // Tear
2 Shattering Spree
2 Ensnaring Bridge
Hitting 3-5 lands really helps with the stock pile plan since you usually want to play 4-5 spells when you pull the trigger.

I like these RW list but it does feel bad to just concede against random hate-cards.
