I ran harsh mentor yesterday at a Sunday FNM like event as a 4 of to try it. #fail. All afternoon long HM did 2 damage total. While Eidolon shone all day doing well over 20 points damage off his effect; helped I played storm ;-) Anyhow, I was hoping Harsh Mentor would be like Eidolon's little brother when he was more like an infant baby sister. Will run a few in SB for awhile and see if has a place there.
Lavaman used to really shine against infect but that deck has all but disappeared from the format since Gitax Probe was banned. I used to MB two Lavamen, moved them to board now stopped running them altogether.
Hey guys... first post - Played Duels for a few years; got into MTGO just this year with a Dredge deck right after GGT was banned - I was a little naive, then moved to Burn, tried out BGx after that, and now I'm firmly back into Burn as my favourite. Looking forward to my first FNM soon! I'm running a Jund Burn deck, which I know you all think is mad, but it wins.
Anyway, what's everyone think of Soul-scar Mage and Hazoret the Fervent?
I'm really enjoying bringing down 'Goyfs with Soul-scar Mage, and with the Jund deck's lower average CMC thanks to Bump in the Night, Prowess is easy enough to turn on. The lack of haste hasn't been a huge deal.
I've just added Hazoret the Fervent; swapping out Tasigur, the Golden Fang, who is a handy blocker but whose ability I've used a total of once. I feel like Hazoret could be awesome since by the time I have four mana on the table my hand is usually mostly empty anyway; as a top deck he's going to be a killer and more often than not, by the time I'm top decking I'll have four or more mana ready to go. Further to that, if he's alone in my hand waiting for that forth land, it turns a top deck land draw into something awesome!
You might not have lost on the spot if you have 4 lands and no hand, but Burn generally never wants to draw that 4th land unless its hand is clogged with 2-drops. I don't think either of those cards is better than what's currently in the lineup.

Creatures are a horrible topdeck and Hazoret is no exception. When we're in topdeck mode (especially if we're on four lands) the opponent usually have stuff to block with, counterspells, path to exile, or all of those. And if that Hazoret was a burn spell, maybe you wouldn't need to be in topdeck mode to begin with.
Soul-Scar is bad too, we are an aggro deck, we want to bolt our opponents face, not their creatures. Bolting creatures is a necessary evil, so we dont want to run cards that make something not part of our gameplan better that are otherwise worse than other options we have. Especially in a format with a trillion removal spells everywhere, creatures without haste is the last place I want to be at, unless they're named Eidolon of the Great Revel.

Well after all the hype and high starting/prerelease price Harsh Mentor dropped to about half its price and now it can be had for $4 in some places. It still can be a useful card but that says more sideboard then main deck. As each set comes and goes I always wait to see what I can add to the tool box. Main deck stuff is always tough to fit in new stuff and side board stuff is always fluctuating depending on meta/bannings/new decks. One of the great things about Burn is that we have lots of options/variations, few limitations and its not like some decks where getting 1 card banned sinks the deck (knock on wood ).

At that price, I'm going to jump the gun and buy a playset by the end of the week. Who knows how the meta will shift and it's a great toolbox card even if it isn't incredibly relevant currently.

I second that notion boys. Picking up a playset here when they hit 4$ shipped. Who knows what will pop up next that causes a crazy 500% price spike. @ $4 each I'd rather have them and not need them then need them when they are @ 20$ each lol.

Go the extra mile and pack Aura Barbs? And pray for every Destructive Revelry you can draw into games two and three...

Heh, Aura Barbs seems like a fun card even if wayyy to specific. I wouldn't go further than 4 Destructive Revelry, unless you somehow can cut out other sideboard slots that aren't relevant in your meta. Adding sideboard cards to beat only one deck doesn't seem worth it. If the problem is lifegain in enchantress, add more skullcracks. Otherwise I'm not sure what to add, since the times I've faced enchantress decks the matchup has felt fine. Sure, they got stuff like Leyline of Sanctity but they're slow and Destructive Revelry is king.

Did i miss something? I havent faced Leyline of Sanctity for a very long time now. Not only that. Revelry is a great card but i rarely need to destroy Enchantments.
This line of comments stems from someone who regularly faces some kind of enchantress deck that plays Leylines.
Ad Naseaum plays 4 Leylines in the side. Leyline shows up in other decks when Burn gets heavy, so it's important to play DRev over Smash just in case. It's nice to have a versatile answer for when you run into Bogles or something else with enchantments. It also helps against Fish if you can float RG in response to Spreading Seas.

It also kills Blood Moon and Phyrexian Unlife! It has a lot of targets and the fact that it can kill enchantments is relevant far more often than the additional one damage I'd get from Smash.
I play on MTGO and Drev is king. I'd never cut it or even go down to 3. The only time I'd consider cutting it was if I was in a paper meta where no one was running enchantments, which I'm not.

Thank you! I run 4 destructive revelry in the sb. However, there are literally 3 decks that run leyline. 2 of them, run 4 each -_-. I got overwhelmed when there was a turn 2 enchantment that gave all the other ones hexproof.
RE: Oliterarock
As mentioned before it is not advised to warp your sideboard for one specific deck HOWEVER if you have a meta like at my LGS in my home town and its the same decks week after week and you know what everyone is playing THEN you can safely warp your sideboard to hose specific people and their decks. That being said there is also the option of Back to Nature as well.

Leyline like any card can be played around but still can be a pain when it lands. The main anti Burn cards I run into is Leyline, Chalice of the Void and Kor. Ive even seen Leyline in the mirror. Leyline isnt just for Burn anymore as it hits other decks also. Cards like DRev (If running Naya) and Wear // Tear (If running Boros/RW) are better then Smash and Shattering Spree cause of their versatility.
As others have mentioned various Enchantments you may need to remove, I'll add 1 more to the list. If your in a meta that has Blue Moon, RW Prisons or face a Mono Red/RDW that runs Blood Moon you'll also need Enchantment removal. Yes you can get around Blood Moon but it locks out your G and W unless you grab basics (Id run at least 1 or each) making cards like Atarka's, Boros Charm, Lightning Helix and Path to Exile if you need it sit as dead cards in your hand.

Hmm not necessarily. Plenty of games come down to top decking.
