He later tells me that he had the combo in hand but actually purposefully boarded out SSG and Lightning Storm to see if I would accept the combo or ask him to play it out. Pretty gutsy but I can't fault his logic.
I'm used to stomping people at my LGS, going 3-0 or 4-0 about every Friday, so this was a good change of pace. Definitely learned some things, and I'm open to criticisms.
Oh my god I have got to try that at the tournaments. Gutsy as hell and very good for the sideboard.
Very, very ballsy, presumably he just replaces it with defensive hate cards then? Not bad at all.
On the subject of ad nauseum, in playing Naya on untap I have found it almost impossible to lose to them if you just hold up deflecting palm all game. Unless they have pact of negation atleast. Anyone else had similar experience?
Are you playing against terrible Ad Nauseam players or something? Ad Nauseam->Angel's Grace->Draw entire deck leads to them drawing every Pact of Negation in their deck. They should always have multiple Pacts to protect Lightning Storm.
Wouldn't it be possible to Deflecting Palm in response to the Ad Nauseam and name Lightning Storm? Or does Palm only work if the card is out in play? It feels like the latter is the more likely effect, but I'm not sure.

Lightning Storm isn't a source that exists for you to choose, so no. You can't until they cast it. To make it more clear, a card isn't a source and picking a source doesn't also choose every source with that name. If you're facing Burn and they have 4 Guides out, you don't get 8 damage in off of choosing Guide. You pick one of the Guide permanents and choose it and you can only Palm away damage from that Guide.
Edit: The rules put restrictions on legal choices, and "a card in a player's library" is not a choice you can make. You can't choose Lighting Storm until it's on the stack, and they've drawn their deck and are holding 3 Pacts.
609.7a If an effect requires a player to choose a source of damage, he or she may choose a permanent; a spell on the stack (including a permanent spell); any object referred to by an object on the stack, by a replacement or prevention effect that’s waiting to apply, or by a delayed triggered ability that’s waiting to trigger (even if that object is no longer in the zone it used to be in); or, for certain casual variant games, a face-up card in the command zone. A source doesn’t need to be capable of dealing damage to be a legal choice. The source is chosen when the effect is created. If the player chooses a permanent, the effect will apply to the next damage dealt by that permanent, regardless of whether it’s combat damage or damage dealt as the result of a spell or ability. If the player chooses a permanent spell, the effect will apply to any damage dealt by that spell and any damage dealt by the permanent that spell becomes when it resolves.
both of those scapeshifts are running bring to light. Another tourney's set for this weekend so I might run a few exquisite firecrafts SB since 5 out of 6 decks I played all have blue in them.

Hey Jund/Mardu burn players, has anybody tested Geth's Verdict and/or Dash Hopes? I was skeptical at first, but both cards have been working very well for me out of the SB. One thing you always hear in this Primer is that "letting your opponent choose is bad", but I haven't found that to be true when it comes to Dash Hopes. Two B gets you a straight up counterspell OR a Lava Axe (essentially) at instant speed. Geth's Verdict hasn't been as pivotal of a play, but I've found it to be an outstanding replacement for Crackling Doom. More folks have started to play Bogles at my LGS, so it's necessary to run some form of Edict-removal.

isn't self inflicted wound eseentially better than geth's verdict? anyway, if you're still worried about creatures, there's always pte and searing blaze.
Welp, I'm going back to my default burn list and selling off my Ensnaring Bridges seeing as Eldrazi is all but banned at this point. I don't mind skipping Modern until the official announcements.
Anything of interest from Shadows? So far I haven't seen anything to either help or hinder us.

It's definitely effective and worth running out of the side. Actually, one of the reasons for trying Geth's was due to the fact that I wanted something which hit the targets that Wound doesn't; not a problem against Bogles, but problematic in other matchups.
Old Innistrad block didn't give us much when it came out besides Vexing Devil (which I almost want to play with again). The most I've seen is the reprint of Fiery Temper, and that's really stretching things. My hope for new Innistrad giving us toys to play with is pretty low, but who knows? I don't think many people expected Deflecting Palm in burn when it was spoiled.
Haven't seen anything for Modern Burn as of yet in the spoilers for SoI. Even though a Fiery Temper reprint is incredibly sweet, there isn't enough warrant for it in the deck.
Once Eldrazi gets banned, I'll be back to a Naya list with Nacatl.

Yeah, and also having no discard outlets, Fiery Temper is always 1RR for 3 damage which is really bad.
Do we really want to kill those birds???
Even if it wasn't, it feels like playing one bad card so we can play another bad card.
Firery Temper is not a new card, btw.
