Thanks! I'll include that in my testing. Just to be clear you were including surgical mb? I feel like there is a propensity for blanking on targets there.
Thanks for the earlier feedback. I really like the burn variant of the deck but I lack the Goblin Guides. Are there any possible budget replacements or should I just be playing a different version of suicide zoo that doesn't include him?

Could replace with Legion Loyalist? I originally had Atarka's Command as my 2 floater spells (mandrills and QP now) could run that but if so you don't want QP in there, it messes up your optimal 'land acquirement' sequence. Lava Spike could work but I'd rather have a hasty dude or strong splash burn spell, sans Lightning Helix
If you try out AC could drop the pridemage for a 2nd mandrills, this is slower though but he's bolt proof and rolls over token chumps, which is a bigger issue in this. Or you could add TBR or 2 but this would give a more combo feel and also have the combo drawback of pump spells or doublers in your hand with no finishers which was the whole point of my version to avoid this and have reach to finish the game.
I was yeah, it was pretty rare to totally blank and sometimes it stole a game. Most decks are running several 4 ofs that are good to disrupt.
Another thing you could try would be boros charm. The ind helps vs jund and it can also sub for tbr if you arent blocked, or just dome them for 4.
Game 1: He turn 2 Spellskite, turn 3 Engineered Explosives, turn 4 Thought-Knot Seer --- GAME
Game 2: I am aggressive as all sin, playing a Swiftspear into Swiftspear Bolt your face plus Mutagenic. He stabilizes at 5 life with Spellskite, rips EE off the top, and that's game.
Sideboard plan: Out: 2x Mutagenic, 3x Become Immense, 1x TBR. In: 2x PtE, 1x Dismember, 1x Ancient Grudge, 1x Duress, 1x Hooting Mandrills (this plan was probably way wrong)
-- Rd 2 -- vs Jeskai Control (L, 0-2)
Game 1: We trade creatures for removal -- I am conservative with my life total and get him low and he just Nahiri, kills my guy, Snap Path my guy, and takes control
Game 2: We again trade creatures for removal until he burns me out.
------I am feeling rather hungry and annoyed right now, mainly because I get a strong sense that I am playing somewhat loosely, though aggression has led to the most success with this deck, and I want opponents to play afraid (a feeling, perhaps, coming from my Twin days). -----
-- Rd 3 -- vs Dredge (L,1-2)
Game 1: he Turn 4's me. I developed my board but unfortunately ripped a couple of Thoughtseizes which was annoyingly inopportune.
Game 2: He leads with Leyline of the Void, rendering the Become Immense in my hand useless. I lead with Grafdigger's Cage and proceed to beat down.
Game 3: I had him down to 3 life with a bolt in hand and he...he...he, uh... flashes back Gnaw to the Bone for 22 life. 22. Life. I lose.
-----Brutal. I am 0-3 and can't see why. I feel like I'm playing fine, and my draws have been satisfactory. And this point I am considering trading into Suicide Bloo, not because I feel it's better, but dammit what is going on here -----
Rd 4: Kid with a brew. (W, 2-0)
I destroy him. I 2-0 him in probably 7 minutes. He missed a ton of triggers, and in game 2 died to his Bitterblossom.
Sideboard Plan (none)
Rd 5: Dredge (W, 2-0)
Game 1: I get a Death's Shadow out t2, and t3 him (Aggressive as all hell here with my life total -- I was going for it!).
Game 2: He can't seem to locate a Faithless Looting or a Cathartic Reunion. I t1 Grafdigger's cage him and Drew 3x Death's Shadow. Easy win in spite of him Gnawing to the Bone for 12 life.
I dropped. Final tally was 2-3 (1-3 versus real decks).
Overall, the deck felt good. Goyf may be unnecessary, given that it sets up strange situations with Become Immense and also costs a lot of money for middling returns. I am considering trading mine and running this creature build:
For that matter, Nacatl also makes mana kind of wonky. I get that he's great, but given what we are trying to do, I am having faint doubts. If Goblin Guide is reprinted, I would try this build for the hell of it.
Haste seems great in this deck, as does prowess, and honestly I am excited to try to keep messing with it.
Certain facts must be established from my experiences.
1. Death's Shadow is busted.
2. Mutagenic Growth + Death's Shadow is nutty.
3. Thoughtseize is a must.
4. Wild Nacatl can beat down well, but he doesn't excel in any match-up outside of infect. His best work of my night came in trading with Prize Amalgams...
5. Grafdigger's Cage should be in the sideboard if Chord decks persist, and probably should come in against Snapcaster deck.
6. Bolt does good work, too, and coupling bolt with Swiftspears leads to some nice turns.
7. Bant Eldrazi is a horrendous match-up, and I think the sideboard should have many slots geared to combat it, specifically.
8. Deck is fun, but tiring to play. I slept not soon after coming home and my wife was surprised.
Everything in this deck feels absolutely great. The problem comes in what I see as divergent goals of the creatures. Steppe Lynx has landfall. Wild Nacatl necessities 3 colors. Death's Shadow requires lifeloss. Swiftspear requires proactive instants/sorceries. And Goyf requires a diverse graveyard. If the deck can operate on only two of these axis, rather than all 5, I am somewhat optimistic that consistency and resiliency can improve. (Suicide Bloo proves that if you just focus on prowess-type effects, you can wreck face).
I use a 2 of Surgical Extraction as a sb for dredge, you only need to see one and ripping their amalgums neuters the deck completely. For jund/junk I really like Proclamation of Rebirth, even as a 1 of it turns games around quickly and I would much rather not have to keep mana open for protection spells, it makes us less able to do 2-3 creature turns and we can't protect from liliana usually anyways. Another option is Postmortem Lunge, bring back a Death's shadow on an oportune turn for a quick kill.

I slanted the deck to try to beat dredge and other fast matchups since that's what I expected, hence 2 Faith's Shield, which has been phenomenal and will continue to be until people learn to play around it. I ended up being dead wrong - there was a lot of jund/junk in the room and basically no dredge. Knowing that's what the metagame was going to be, I would have cut a Faith's Shield and maybe a Path for Lingering Souls. And added the 4th Nacatl MD for the 3 Lynx. Going forward I like that configuration too - it looks like people are much more afraid of the gy hate than I thought, so dredge will be showing up in smaller numbers leaving the fair decks still reasonably well positioned.
Here's how my rounds went for those interested:
Lose 1-2 vs. Grixis Control. G1 killed him on turn 2 w/ 2 Swiftspears, Mutagenic Growth, and Become Immense. G2 I Thoughtseize an EE and put 2 Death's Shadows into play, but he finds another EE and I die. G3 I put him to 7 with 2 swiftspears and put a goyf into play with only lands in my hand. He has the Damnation. I think I got a fairly unlucky here, but I got lucky later so can't complain too much. He eventually T16ed I believe.
Win 2-1 vs. Affinity. Lost G1, as usual. G3 my opponent decided to play artifacts on turn 2 instead of the Blood Moon in his hand, so I got to cast Death's Shadow and had TBR in play. I could have cast it T1 in retrospect if I realized I could Mutagenic his creature, but opponent punted right back (I knew he had the Moon from a Probe).
Win 2-0 vs. Infect. I think I missed lethal for a couple turns because I didn't think I could do it through the Spell Pierce in his hand. Ate something to clear up the brain fog after this match.
Win 2-0 vs. Bant Eldrazi. My opponent was on tilt after I called a judge when he flipped one of my cards while shuffling. He kept a no lander on 5 against me game 2 because he didn't want me to shuffle his deck anymore (I was doing the standard mash shuffle; *shrug*)
Lose 2-0 vs. UWR Nahiri. Tough matchup, I had mediocre hands, and my SB wasn't built for this matchup. He eventually T8ed and had to play against another Suizoo player there. (Don't know who won, but that player had 2 lingering souls plus forest + Ranger in his board, so it should have been closer).
Win 2-1 vs. Bushwhacker Zoo. G2 came down to him having 2 bolts and a path to kill my Swiftspear and early Shadow through a Muta with TBR + BI in hand. I had another threat but was in chump mode at that point. G3 he mulled to 5 and kept a 1 lander, but eventually hit and was explosive after that, but too late.
Win 2-1 vs. Affinity. Lost game 1 again despite being able to do 18 damage the turn before I died. Plating on Skirge is messed up. G2 I kept 0 land death's shadow, TBR, bauble, probe, swiftspear, muta on the play and missed my first land drop. but he had a slow one and I hit off bauble and in my next draw step.
So 5-2. T8 was a clean cut with only 5-1-1s or better making it.
How did you sideboard against Eldrazi? I'm having some serious trouble against the deck because they always seem to draw all their Paths, EE and Blessed Alliances against me...
It's a bad matchup no matter how you slice it, but IIRC:
That's wrong though. I think you're actually supposed to cut the swiftspears and leave both bolts in, and a few more of the combo-ish pieces I guess. I'd go trawling through the mtgmintcard.com modern archives for some good advice in that matchup. I got really lucky because my opponent mulliganed both games and still kept awful hands. A no lander, even, game 2!
Edited to add: and if you have lingering souls, it definitely comes in here.

Definitely keep in TBR and bolts. First lynxes go and then any other swiftspears. Also dont forget a forest as they only run path to exile. You also have to watch out for Rest in Peace, basically makes tarmogoyfs useless and mandrills uncastable
I understand some people doesn't own goyfs, but there's any reason to run mandrils instead of goyfs in the SB? I mean, the mandrils trample, that is often relevant against tokens and so. But goyf comes on turn 2 all the times. Many times when I tested mandrils some hands become awkward since I couldn't cast them until turn 3 or turn 4. And not to talk when you have 2 in hand. I'm playing 1 tarmo main with 3 SB right now, and with good results. I feel like I can convert to a more traditional zoo build in the second and third game with them, and when they come one after another is too difficult for the opponent to be able to handle them all.
Having trample, as I said, is sometimes relevant, but in the current iteration of the meta I don't think is that good.
Well, if Goyf is typically between a 3/4 and a 5/6 in this deck, Mandrils is like an average of Goyf sizes that always dodges Bolt and Decay and has half a TBR built in. I think both are very good, but I like having at least a couple Mandrils in the side. I think Goyf is more maindeckable, however. I think I'll end up with 1 Goyf main with 1 Goyf and 2 Mandrils side.
Hey guys ! I just build the Death's Shadow deck. I don't have Mishra's Bauble yet and I'm looking for a replacement. I know it has been talk a lot in the topic but I want your advice ! I'm thinking replacing the 4 Mishra's Bauble with : 1x Ghor-Clan Rampager, 2x Apostle's Blessing and a 4th Thoughtseize. In my meta, there is a lot of Grixis control, Jund and Junk. Do you have any better ideas? Thanks

I just built this deck last week and was waiting for my baubles to come in and damn is this deck different without baubles. My replacements were 1 rancor, 2 blossoming defense, and the 4th thoughtseize. Honestly I don't think there's really a direct replacement but it seems like your replacement cards are fine though again I'm new to this deck also so maybe someone with more experience can weigh in.
That being said I have a question about sideboard and noticed some lists run lingering souls instead of hooting mandrills. How effective has lingering souls been for people because it seems like hooting mandrills is the better choice?
You really really need the Baubles. But if you're going to run the deck without them, add another fetchland. Maybe 2. Bauble represents both delve fuel and land drops.
Thanks for your advice. I think I will buy the Misrha Bauble. I wanted to try something else but it look like the deck is not as good without them. Do you think the deck will be good if Become Immense is ban ?
Thanks for your answer. I wonder if the Death's Shadow card could fit in another deck, less based on the combo. In some way, it's like a Goyf (getting bigger as the game goes on). But without Mutagenic or Probe it will be really hard to cast early on and could be a death card for long in your hand against many match up. But I guess we have no way to know yet. We have to wait for the next ban.
