Wasn't a misplay. Just a place where spell pierce would have been good. He was holding 2 cards (island and twin I believe). If he had a pierce, he would have disrupted the whole line of play and not taken lethal poison, then twin the next turn.
...or Dispel, which is better against Infect.
lol, sure. Point is pierce isn't "completely dead" late game.

After extensive testing I am starting to feel confident with this deck. I went 3-1 yesterday with this list: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/293752#online Please tell me what you think about it. The lack of clique is a direct result of the lack of money.
How much do you guys sideboard against GBx midrange decks, and how big difference does it make? I'm close to giving up the matchup...

I think you run some interesting but very questionable cards.
how has swerve been for you? seems very interesting but a bit loose.
anger of the gods mainboard seems a bit much, but you don't run grim lavamancer so I guess you can.
I usually sideboard ~10 cards for BGx decks

Can Dispel hit Wild Defiance? No it can not.
Can Pierce counter stuff against Infect like Dispel can? Yes it can, but it gets weaker as the game goes longer.
Does Infect go for the long game? No it does not.
Before dismissing a card on general, try to evaluate its ups and downs. Or would you say that a player like Patrick Dickmann is bad because he played some Pierces in one of his latest deckbuilds? There is a reason for every card choice and its not like some guys here are beginners that have never played the deck to make a decision like Pierce over Dispel maindeck.
I agree that the quality in this thread has really gone down after splitting up with Rug/Grixis.
Where can I find the latest deckbuilds that Patrick Dickmann is running? Is there a particular site you are going to or is it a MODO stream?
I can see the uses for it, but isn't Redirect just better than Swerve? Redirect can hit a spell that has multiple targets and change all of them, instead of only being useful against single-target spells. There are very few lands in the deck that produce R but not U, so the casting cost is basically the same.
I also saw someone top8 with a thopter assembly and wurmcoil engine has been passing through my head
EDIT : since the mass amount of UWR players here im gonna be running a teferi. would you bring teferi in for Grixis Delver though. or is Surrak DragonClaw better than teferi

Let me explain my card choices. When I really started tested the deck a month ago (I'm testing for gp Copenhagen), I played a version without spellskite or anger of the gods main, but with 2 blood moon maindecked. My experience was that the meta had evolved around blood moon. Moon was a fantastic card half a year ago, an auto win against many decks. Today the only deck it automatically wins against seems to be bloom-titan. Theres one way to use this to our advantage. Fetch for basic islands game 2 and 3 when you could have gotten the steam vents tapped. Fake it, and get your opponnents to play around it. If you want to have any success with this deck you need to learn to fake the combo. Its basically the same thing with blood moon.
The metas weakness to blood moon was gone. Instead there were some new decks that caught my eye. Especially Anafenzas company and the new elfball-deck. With 2 anger of the gods main, I've never lost to any of them, (3 matches vs anafenza, 6 matches vs elves). I find that anger gives me some free wins, and doesn't hurt all that much against creature-light decks. Most decks in modern has some sort of creature base.
Swerve is a later addition, but I have been very happy with it. Noone sees it coming, and when you resolve it, it really feels dirty. I wanted to try it out because I needed an answer to abrupt decay and rending volley. Can't be countered, but can be redirected. It's hillarious against burn, and in the mirror you can try to steal their splinter twin when they try to go off. You can also swerve thoughtseize, inquisition or any counterspell so it counters itself. It's very versatile, and you guys should try it out. But as TehCheator pointed out, redirect is probably just better.
I have not been impressed with grim lavamancer. I play a controlish game, focusing on the combo. When I have tried lavamancer, I always end up prioritizing what to kill because it takes time for my graveyard to fill up. Also its a nonbo with snapcaster mage and harvest pyre.
I have tried different answers to bigger creatures like goyf, tasigur, rhino and so on, and haven't found the ideal answer yet. They all seem somewhat clunky, but I think pyre is the least clunkiest.
Right now I'm testing Teferi, mage of zhalfir, as a one off in the sidebard and it seems to have some merrit, but I can get back to you later.

Just got back from a modern event. Horrendous draws (7 turns on 2 lands in match one....TWICE). Lost to Collected Abzan (bad draw, play mistakes, not expecting the matchup, all the above) Little Kid Abzan (bad sideboard plan). Beat Bloom (lol like a bye) and a UR control list.
I'll comment on the matches I lost.
For collected Abzan, Game 1 I had the literal perfect progression of bolt your birds, snare your ooze, blood moon t3 (yes I run 2 main), pestermite only green source on next upkeep and twin. Game 2 I screwed up and bolted a birds when I should have held up for snare. He ended up getting a voice in play and man is that card crappy to play against (I used to play Abzan and its a house). Even though I bolted it, kid played ANOTHER next turn. My big mistakes were having a 1:1 split of volcanic fallout and anger of the gods and boarding out the combo completely, as I though he was on regular Junk. Anyway, drew the fallout and not anger. Man I wish I had it though, exiling that grinning moose and all the little value dudes along with it (and your little bird too!). Cool brew by my opponent, using Varolz to scavenge creatures I killed and as an instant-speed sac engine. Game 3 was just crappy draws and having my first anger sin-collected and the fallout doing squat. Never drew my 2-of shackles.
For Little kid abzan I just kept loose hands and got beat down. Got land flooded game 2 (on par for the night) and, once again, drew fallout and not anger, which left a big goofy elemental behind. Had to roast a second voice so I could keep counter magic up, but just ended up getting beat down by 2 elementals and not drawing any spells. Also never drew my shackles.
My general thoughts on playing the matchups are:
1) Blood moon is completely viable MB, as no one fetches basics and you can just steal wins (hey, we're playing Twin right?) Even in decks that play dorks, if you have a bolt or counter magic up on the play, you can lock them out. My opponent said the usual builds are really low on basics and that he was really scared of an early blood moon, even though he had a BoP.
2) Roast=good. I like it much more than slash.
3) Anger, anger, anger. I switched fallout originally because it is an instant, can't be countered and can redirect damage to a planeswalker. Unfortunately, the exile clause is all-too relevant as Voice is insanely difficult to play against.
4) Dispel vs. pierce never really came up as I didn't end up drawing it in any matches and boarded it out against the two Abzan matches.
5) Knowing your matchup is HUGE. Being able to differentiate between Little Kid Abzan, collected company, and regular Junk is very important, as it dictates your side boarding. For example, I thought Collected Junk was normal Junk, so I brought in Keranos, who was WAYYYY too slow. Jace was ok, but there were no souls in that version, so it was a wasted slot. My thoughts are that T1 birds or heirarch, start thinking Collected Company or Little Kid. T1 IOK or TS, think Junk.
6) TBH I wish I had more counter magic. I run 2 spell snare and wish I had a third, but it may not be the correct move in a large meta environment.
7) SoLaS was kind of crap. Might try a wurmcoil engine
I apologize if this was a little rambling, I didn't take notes and tried to recall the details as best I could :/
edit: also, for this matchup anyway, I kind of wish I had an early lavamancer. Would have done a lot of work, but I only run one in the side.

I'm not sure that Magma Spray is a card worth playing. Sure, it's instant speed, but there's so many better cards which impact multiple matchups that you'd need to cut to fit that in.
I agree on Anger though. It's fast becoming one of my favorite sideboard cards just because of how many decks it's just amazing against.
Some of my choices have changed since last time. For the maindeck, I chose to take out a Spell Snare for a Spell Pierce because it improves the Junk (Liliana), Bogles (Coronet/Enchantments/Path), Burn (Any Burn spell), Jund (Terminate/Liliana) matchups. I am playtesting it more today so I can give better feed back on the switch, but Spell Snare is utterly narrow and Spell Pierce did prove to be very useful.
My sideboard is what has changed the most and that is because the meta is shifting. I took out 1 EE, 1 Sower of Temptation, 1 Spellskite for 1 Anger of the Gods, 1 Roast, and 1 Vedalken Shackles. I wanted to have Anger for Collected Company/Elves/Zoo. I wanted to test out Vedalken Shackles because it seemed decently positioned in a meta filled with lower curve creatures and I wanted to test it versus Junk to see if it was worth it. Finally, I added a Roast because earlier Tasigurs, Anglers, and Rhinos are difficult to answer.
I don't have a good report for FNM as I only have life totals but here is what I can tell you:
Round 1 - Mono Green Stompy
Game 1: I keep a hand a decent hand with Deceiver Exarch and a bunch of draw cards. He ends up but a huge amount of pressure on me with rancor on his Dungrove Elder (OUCH). I end up blocking with you Deceiver the turn before I draw a splinter Twin. (lyk dis if u cri evrytim)
Game 2: I am able to slow down his threats with Remands and eventually EoT tap a green source so he cannot Vines/Nature's Claim the combo and I win.
Game 3: This game is INTENSE. We both end up answering each others threats while he is stuck on lands as I burn through 2 Remands plus Snapcaster remand. I land a shackles and he is able to find mana. I slowly beat down after taking his Leatherback Baloth. He eventually destroys it, but the next turn I combo to win.
SB: -2 Electrolyze, -1 Spell Pierce, -1 Grim Lavamancer, -1 Peek, +1 Batterskull, +1 Roast, +1 Anger of the Gods, +1 Dispel, +1 Vedalken Shackles
Explanation:
This deck is pretty fast if they are on curve. Electrolyze is very slow here, Pierce is narrow, Lavamancer is okay, and Peek is meh against fast decks. The add ins are pretty self explanatory except for Dispel. The deck was running 4 Vines of Vastwood and 4 Become Immense with Nature's Claim and Unravel the Aether after SB.
Round 2 - Boggles
Game 1: He mulligans down to 5 with little pressure and no path I combo on turn 4.
Games 2: He mulligans down to 6 and again with little pressure and no mana for path, I combo turn 4.
SB plan: -4 Remand, -2 Electrolyze, +1 EE, +1 Spellskite, +1 Anger of the Gods, +1 Negate, +2 Blood Moon
Explanation: Remand is terrible against this deck and I like to keep bolts/flame slash in for Spellskites/Gaddock Teeg/Spiritdancer.
Round 3 - Boggles
Game 1: He mulligans down to 5 with little pressure and no path, I combo on turn 4 (huh...it's like I typed this before).
Game 2: He mulligans down to 5 again and while he has a bit more pressure, I am able to pierce a coronet and then follow up with a Bloodmoon. The following turn I win via combo.
Explanation: Same as above.
Round 4 - Junk
Game 1: Ugh, this matchup. GO Variance! I keep a decent hand with double serum visions, dispel, snare, and snapcaster with lands as he mulls to 6. He is on the play and does nothing. I end up visions-ing for deceiver and splnter twin on top. He IoK's next turn and takes snappy and follows up with Liliana. I attempt to exarch at the end of his turn and he abrupt decays. The following turn I serum to get deciever in hand and another twin on top. I go for another tap at the end of his turn and it succeeds with Lili on 6 (gotta win nao). I untap and play twin to win the game.
Game 2: This game is a grind to say the least. He has no hand disruption, but has the pressure on with two Lilianas in hand. I am able to bolt and Snap bolt the first one and he plays the second and I am again able to bolt it down. We both end up going lower as I take shots from treetop and he takes shots from a snappy. I end up getting a lighthouse which proves to be my saving grace as well as landing a vendilion as he drew into choke and I took it. In the end, I am able to snap bolt and attack for lethal.
SB: -4 Exarch, -4 Twin, -1 Peek, +1 Roast, +1 Keranos, +1 Jace, +1 EE, +2 Blood Moon, +1 Batterskull, +1 Shackles, +1 Sower
Yes, I got extremely lucky against Junk, but that's how it goes. I am pretty happy with the SB right now and feel free to respond.
Twin is an easy combo and win when everything goes perfect, so I think most players at this point have been beaten by it that way and are bitter about it. I find that it's usually the less experienced players who act this way... Eg the ones who just started modern and are used to standard.
CC and Chord are instants, which work in our favor when we run MD Dispel and usually one SB. Maybe the answer is we run 2 SB. 1 mana to stop their 4cmc spell is pretty good.
Redirect seems kind of awesome and a way to make alot of matchups just a little bit easier, def gonna try one out.
.
EDIT : I haven't gotten twin is easy yet, but one of the many reasons I don't play much burn is how annoying people can be when they lose to it saying stuff about how easy it is when they usually makes tons of misplays and their deck is much easier to play. just ignore it

Twin is like sneak and show in the sense that both decks can say "oh, I have these two cards. I win!" Doesn't make it easy but typically straight forward win cons make decks look easy.
I have been building UR Twin but I do not have Scalding Tarn or Misty Rainforest. I have been running 6 total of Polluted Delta and Flooded Strand. If I do not have the money for the Zendicar fetch is there something better then what I am using that I should try.

Yes, I got extremely lucky against Junk, but that's how it goes. I am pretty happy with the SB right now and feel free to respond.

CC and Chord are instants, which work in our favor when we run MD Dispel and usually one SB. Maybe the answer is we run 2 SB. 1 mana to stop their 4cmc spell is pretty good.
.
EDIT : I haven't gotten twin is easy yet, but one of the many reasons I don't play much burn is how annoying people can be when they lose to it saying stuff about how easy it is when they usually makes tons of misplays and their deck is much easier to play. just ignore it

Nope, keep up with the Blue Khans fetches until you can get Tarns.
Though TBH the first thing I'd get are the rest of the Snapcasters. The card is unreal is will only go up.
