Hazoret in the main makes sense — she punishes the mirror and improves our clock vs Storm / KCI / Tron while being decent vs Jeskai and helping to hedge against increased grave hate in the meta. Any other reasons I’m overlooking?
What motivates you to run another Molten Rain in the board over the third Moon?
How did you arrive at your 2 Spellbomb / 1 Surgical split?
Went 3-1 at fnm this week with a fairly stock build of Mardu pyro. Pretty happy with the results.
Round 1. 2-0 hardened scales affinity. K command was a house against this deck as was fatal push. Wear/tear out of the board also helped.
Round 2. 2-0 grixis death shadow.
Pretty easy matchup we grind harder than them. I had a very timely dreadbore against a delve threat and back to back bedlams sealed it.
Round 3. 2-0 humans.
An easy matchup. Game 1 removal into removal into blood moon sealed it. Game 2 k command for a 2 for 1 blowing up vial and a creature put it away.
Round 4. 0-2 infect
My luck came to a halt as I feel we are slightly favored here. Game 1 I needed to faithless into a bolt to win and whiffed game 2 my hand did nothing and stalled on land drops. How do you guys feel about the infect matchup it is becoming more popular.

Yeah, Hazoret really shines against most decks atm. You have Tron, KCI and the mirror a lot, where you either need a fast clock or a really good threat. She basically always wins me the game when I see her, I think there is no reason to not play her main atm.
I think Molten Rain over the third Moon is mostly since it helps better with Reveler and I think its stronger vs Control. I also want 3 Moltens since I am running 1 Surgical now for Tron/Valakut. You could play the third Moon over that for sure though.
I had 3 slots for GY hate in general (don't want to invest in 4 slots to run Leyline atm, although this might be a good idea going onwards if KCI and the mirror comes up more often) and since Spellbombs are okay vs KCI but not outstanding, I wanted a Surgical which might be more impactful for the matchup. Plus, with Molten Rains, Surgical is also decent vs Tron/Valakut.
I struggle against big mana and UW decks. If damage is the key here, do you think we could arrange some cards in the SB that can bring the deck close to burn?
DMG is not the key against UW Control in my opinion. You need to handle RIP and their PWs, then you can win through outgrinding them. If a card like Sphinx's Revelation is involved, it gets a lot tougher though. Its a tough matchup, but I would not try to burn them.
Big Mana is generally a bad matchup, we rely on BM and YP spitting out loads of tokens to finish the games fast.
On another hand, we got 2 Top 8s in the banks at the GP, pretty great.
Round 4. 0-2 infect

It happens. I defnetly feel like we're favored vs. infect.
In my list I run 4 bolts, 2 pushes, vs. Infect I'd probably mull most hands that dont have any sort of interaction of the sorts.
You dont need much stuff vs. Infect other than some guaranteed removal to cut them off, its more important to kill their stuff than to make them spend the pumps.
I feel like we're very favored because not only our deck runs A LOT of removal/discard but also we have tons of chumpblockers, some that fly included.

I'm on the Hazoret mainboard train myself.
I really like her.
Yeah the LoTV count seems very random to me. Not sure how many we really want. I am more on the 29 instants and sorcery spells main atm and I really like hazoret main atm, so I don't have much room for Liliana.

Do you have 3 BM in your 75? Also 4 CB seem reasonable in that meta. You can skimp on GY hate in that meta a bit and play some surgical as well, its better vs Valakut and Tron. I think I would play Anger over Bontu.

Luckily for you, I have started to write a Primer on Mardu Pyromancer, since I really want that this deck has a good one available. Stay tuned it should be done soon.
Hey folks, I just wanted to let you all know I recently recorded some MTGO gameplay videos with Mardu Pyromancer. I recorded 4 matches that you can find here: Mardu Pyromancer Mini-Series (Deck Tech + Matches).
This isn't the first time I've recorded with it, so if you're interested in more content, you can check out my channel for many more videos. I can't claim to be anything special when it comes to piloting the deck, but if you're new to the deck and want to see someone else run through a bunch of matches and trying different things, then my videos may be helpful.
For those who are wondering if Liliana of the Veil is worth it, after testing 8 or so matches with her in the main, she has overperformed. I don't think I'm playing less than 1 of her moving forward, but I really have been enjoying her as a 2-of. I'm also not too keen on the basic Plains, but can understand why some run it. Lastly, I'm on 0 Manamorphose, but am interested in starting to experiment with 1 in the maindeck. Anyways, if you watch the videos, I appreciate it! Cheers
