Has anyone considered using Darkblast in the 75 for Abzan Traverse? It's been a pet card of mine for some time and I want to try it in a straight Rock Traverse list.
Haven't specifically tried it in Traverse builds, but I haven't ever really been a fan of it. What do you think you would use it for that Liliana, the last hope doesn't solve?

I feel the same way. It seems like for the matchups where it would be actively good we have more effective cards, and if it's just to fill the yard I would rather do that with Bauble/Flayer.
Question - considering decks for PPTQ this weekend (new to Modern, so I can't play "the deck I have the most experience with") and looking at Abzan. The traverse / delirium versions all run 4x Mishra's Bauble. I don't have any. They seem to be important for delirium (artifact).
If you didn't have any baubles, would you run the Traverse / Grim Flayer version, or just skip trying to hit delirium altogether and run a more traditional Abzan build? If you would run traverse / grim flayer, what would you replace the baubles with?

Dredging seems a reasonable way to help achieve Delirium. In match-ups where Darkblast is good, it's super good. It practically beats Affinity by itself.

The short answer is there isn't another card that does what Bauble does in Modern, which is why it's a $30 card. It's simply the best card for the slot. I have had some success running Architects of Will in that spot, but I only did it when I wanted to also run Stony Silence out of the board and Stony and Baubles are an obvious nonbo. Architects are nice because they put two types in the yard for a single Mana, but they still cost Mana where Bauble doesn't and they don't give you free information about the top of your (or your opponent's) deck. The experts (Willy Edel, et al) will say that if you can't run Bauble don't run Traverse, so that would be the best advice, probably.
There's been a lot of good lists posted here lately of the non-Traverse variety, and honestly that's the route I would take without Baubles.

True, but Lili does very similar things ( killing x/1, feeding the gy ) while being good in more matchups in my opinion. To me it just comes down to only having 15 slots in the board.

Even with baubles it can be difficult to achieve and maintain delirium. I would echo the advice to look in to building a non-traverse variant first.

Fair enough. I've actually run Darkblast main-deck at my LGS with good results but I am a bit of a rebel.
Putting together an abzan list and had a question.
My local meta is:
1 grixis DS
1 titanshift
1 living end
2-3 burn
2-3 affinity
1 mono white humans
1 eldrazi tron
1 merfolk
With my local meta being so aggressive should I avoid putting together a Dark Confidant build? I like the idea of playing with him, but have a feeling it wouldn't be the smartest move. The only build I truly want to avoid is one that includes mishra's baubles.

Thanks, guys.
I guess Dark Confidant is (really) risky against Burn and in a lesser degree Affinity, Humans and Merfolk. But if you run a number of Scavenging Ooze and Collective Brutality main board I guess you would be fine, go with 3-2. Casting CB with 1 or 2 times escalating feels really good! Additionally, run a split of 4 Inquisition of Kozilek and 2 Thoughtseize, so you won't hurt yourself as much. Finally, I'd run 4 Fatal Push. Still some number of Path to Exile, because you want to be able to remove the bigger creatures in Titanshift, Grixis DS and EldraziTron. Lucky for you they're the minority in your local meta! You could also consider running Siege Rhino, I know it's the top end of the curve and whenever you flip it with bob you take 4, but when casting it you only loose 1. On the flip side, when you just draw it naturally you can cast it and basically you play a Lightning Helix.
Also, another Bobzan Midrange took a top 8 spot. This time in SCG Modern IQ Middletown. His list:
Hey, thanks for the reply! I should point out that I am 100% okay with going a different direction than Bob. Something like the GP Vegas list that runs Hierarch. It seems like people are jumping on the Bob train and I want to make sure to buy into the right list to start. I currently only have 1 bob and 1 hierarch, so it's about the same price to go in either direction.

One supposes that a Traverse-style list with Grim Flayer is substantially less expensive that lists with either Dark Confidant or Noble Hierarch. It wouldn't be hard to figure out, I guess, I'm just too lazy and I've got all of it anyway. Hell, I've got three extra Bobs.
Long time Jund player here, been thinking about giving Junk a try. Would anyone be willing to critique this build for me?
The meta changes a lot. Decks people like involve Tron, Eldrazi Tron, Burn, Shadow variants, Aggro decks, and Abzan.
You run 6 removal, while most abzan lists run 9 - 11. I would double check in your deck, if you want low count of removal spells, especially if you played jund and you are used to it ^^
- 4 grim flayer / + 4 dark confidant (since you dont run any artifacts like spellbomb or bauble main)
you could also - 1 hissing quagmire / + 1 shambling vent (for more lifegain cuz confidants or treetop village)
and maybe - 1 canopy / + 1 gavony township
unless you really want flayers in your deck, then i would suggest running 2 nihil spellbombs main too =)
In SB you dont need wrath of god, WW is harder to get than BB so play a second damnation instead or flaying tendrills imo. Also instead of 4 leylines i would play 2 brutalities and 2 finks (if that is your answer against burn) - against combo i wouldn't worry cause you got 6 discard main and you would have 2 brutality SB, but you could always stick another duress in the SB if you are worried about combo.
Now that you have a lot more removal in the main, you could get rid of darkblast and dark betrayal and put in 2 nihil spellbombs against all GY decks plus it will help you increase goyfs or enable delirium if you decide to run flayers.
Also i would consider making a spot in the SB for gideon, ally of zendikar (against shadow, GBx, Control decks and/or 2 Fulminators.

I'll look more at the removal counts, Dredge and other GY decks aren't too popular locally so the Ooze slots are the one I'm looking to cut the most. It's also a Nylea, not a bow. I don't expect to ever turn it on, it's just an enchantment for the GY or an activation and to give Goyf trample. Now that you mentioned it though, the Bow would probably work better.
Something I had noticed in the Hierarch lists was that Grim Flayer+Noble Hierarch have a pretty nice synergy with the exalted giving a boost to a trample creature, it also plays well with Siege Rhino making it into a 5/6 which beats just about everything in combat and also tramples over.
Dark Confidant seems to lend itself more towards a non Hierarch list because of the exalted/flayer interaction, I would honestly rather play something with Flayers though because my Bobs are currently in another deck and I don't want to swap them back and forth.
I think the Hissing Quagmire is required due to my removal count.
I'll rethink the SB a bit, the Leylines are less for Burn and more for all the GB/x mirrors as a way to beat discard, especially when on the draw. Here's the 60 though taking your advice into account.
First of all, i think leylines of sanctity are useless in bgx mirrors. If you played jund, you know that you always board out discard against grindy bgx decks. So why board in 4 leylines? If the opponent leaves the discard in and you dont, you already have the advantage. Dont play their game by trying to capitalize on their mistake and making your own.
4 rhino still seems overkill for me. I would definately cut 2 and replace them with oozes. They are one of the best grinding cards lategame if bgx mirrors trouble you.
I dont see why hissing quagmire is required for the abzan removal count. Most of abzan lands produce black and most of the lists run 2x vents 1x wildwood/treetop. But i dont think its a big deal and any could work.
Even if your meta doesnt have dredge i would still play 2 spellbombs if i played flayers. They shut down death shadow quite a bit, help against any snapcaster and abzan delirium deck etc. All while enabling your delirium. i dont remember what article was it but i read somewhere that its not worth playing flayers in normal abzan unless you run 3 artifacts such as spellbomb or bauble. I think it was reid duke's last article but im not sure. I suppose it comes down to personal preference anyway and what works for you.
Also i would really recommend at least one maelstrom pulse main.. especialy if you said your meta has tron. Traverse listys somstimes skip pulse but traditional abzan decks never do afaik.
I would honestly replace the bow or last hope (or both) with 1-2 pulses, and ur rdy to go!
Im not a pro or anything, so if anyone else has some other advice or think that im wrong, feel free to correct me!
Edit: i foind the article by bgx god reid duke himself:
After a whole lot of testing, I've narrowed it down to 2 lists. Please let me know which one you think is better for the current and upcoming meta, and if you have any criticism / change suggestions on the lists. Thanks!

Thanks for the article link, I wasn't aware of it. I played a few games today with a buddy on Xmage, playing against Affinity, Grixis, and something else (I don't remember what). I made some slight modifications to my list but I was still trying to go for a Flayer/Hierarch build.

4 Rhinos is too many.
Tasigur/Angler are a problem.

Shambling Vents is useful, but requires too much white.
Having one more enabler for Delirium would be nice.
Bow is very strong.
Taking it into account alongside reading Reid Dukes article, this is what I'm going to put together for next weeks FNM I think:
[deck]
Lands 22
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Marsh Flats
2 Overgrown Tomb
1 Godless Shrine
1 Temple Garden
3 Blooming Marsh
1 Forest
1 Swamp
1 Plains
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
1 Shambling Vent
2 Treetop Village
Sideboard 15
3 Stony Silence
2 Nihil Spellbomb
2 Collective Brutality
2 Fulminator Mage
1 Bow of Nylea
1 Dark Betrayal
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Big Game Hunter
2 Tireless Tracker
[/quote]
I like the look of it, but one notable miss in my list is Flaying Tendrils which I see everywhere right now. What does it do that Drown in Sorrow doesn't? From what I remember of the format, your exile removal really needs to hit X/3's.
After a whole lot of testing, I've narrowed it down to 2 lists. Please let me know which one you think is better for the current and upcoming meta, and if you have any criticism / change suggestions on the lists. Thanks!
2 is likely better, 1 is lots of fun though, if you look above you can see I'm trying to make a Noble list. If it weren't for Souls I would probably play straight GB.
Look at the card. Now back to Jace. Now back to that card, now back to Jace! Sadly, it isn't Jace, but if it stopped being a junk rare and became relevant, it could act like it's Jace. Crack some Worldwake. What do you have? You have a Jace, the card you wish this card could be like. Look again. THE CARD IS NOW A $75 BILL. Anything possible when you play Magic with Jace and not junk rares. This is probably spam.
