How does Jund/Junk beat these valakut ramp decks? Play-tested a few rounds with friends and the games are close, but the ramp decks always somehow pull off a win just in time.
Generally, it's a bad match-up but it's winnable. They usually bring in creatures on games 2 and 3 to catch you off guard, so don't remove your Terminates/Path to Exiles. Jund has access to Slaughter Games and it straight out takes away 1 win conditon giving you plenty of time to beat face with Tarmogoyfs and Raging Ravines. Junk has a more difficult time against Scapeshift because of it's slower clock, just jam in all your discard spells and Fulminator Mages to keep them off 7 lands as long as possible. Liliana of the Veil is awesome in this match-up. Abrupt Decays are bad, they have 0 targets.
Game two I stomp him hard killing all the sisters and casting two goys and turn 2 and three.
Game three was epic. He got the genesis chamber + norin engine going. I managed to kill his sisters and get him down to two life, but he has 5+ myr tokens and I'm dead next turn. Everybody is watching us. TOPDECK SIEGE RHINO FOR THE W!!!! and the crowd goes wild.
4-0
Round 5: Thopter Sword
Game one I crush him with a crash of siege rhinos. I path and decay everything he has.
-2 Lili -3 Inquisition -3 Thoughtseize -2 Siege Rhino +2 Engineered Explosives +2 Loxodon Smiter +2 Wheel of Sun and Moon +2 Stony Silence +2 Anafenza
Game two I cruise to an easy win with sideboard cards that all got countered Lingering souls tokens and and Loxodon Smiter get me there.
5-0
Double draw into top 8 and I'm the number two seed.
Game three we trade blows and I eventually get there with a Stirring Wildwood.
Top 4: GR Tron
Game one I nearly get there with goyf and discard, but I get killed by double Ulamog.
sideboard why bother? I just board in Anafenza and Loxodon Smiter.
Game two my opponent mulls to a no lander.
Game three natural tron and I'm dead to wurmcoil
Anyway that is a brief report of my event. I might go more in depth later.

So it appears to me that Tron seems to be less of a presence in the current format. I havnt played any online since the ban and there are only 2 tron players at my LGS. I think this prompts for a change.
I currently run 2 Ghost Quarter. Should 1 /1 split between GQ and Gavony Township be the correct call? Ghost Quarter still has its uses with manlands, academy ruins, etc. But with tron less prelevent and the meta slowing down, Township has more value now.
What do you guys think? What is your current split?
Hi all!
@gonoree: that is very close to my main deck list. Dark confidant in this deck is awesome!. I propuse to you just play: -1x scavenging ooze, -1x lingering souls, -1x abrupt decay adding +3x noble hierarch. With those changes you can play in turn 2 liliana or lingering (very important vs Robots), and siege rhino in turn 3 (vs Burn) as main deck cards. On the other hand, you will lose less life with dark confidant, and you can attack only with a lingering token (despite de exalted of noble hierarch) using the other token to block.
I also play 3x inquisition and 3x thoughtseize.
Talking about side: I think it is essential playing Choke now that blue is going to be seen in a lot of tables.
There is 2x thropter at my store tonite, Esper and Jeskai(usa) control with combo. Both I have playing and I have landed choke twice before their turn 5. Stops like 4 lands in one build and 6 in other.
Choke CAN be good, but only if U/R decks are uber popular. When Twin was a thing, Choke was fine if you wanted to crush them, but didn't span much past a few archetypes. It's much worse against decks like Thopters that have nonIslands out the wazzoo and plenty to do with less than 4 mana. Twin needed their late lands, and still could often function around a Choke.
Anyway, Here I am, back into BG/x Souls. My friend convinced me this is better than Ancestral Vision decks right now, and it's where I've made my biggest marks anyway. Time to sleeve up Discard into Goyf into Lili into Siege you again. This deck is still one of the filthiest powerhouses in the wrong (correct) hands!
Hell yeah Junk.

Dark Confidant: I played it for a while, it's great if your meta is full of combo decks to keep the discard flowing. But the main issue (besides that we play a pretty high curve) I have with it is that it dies to bolt while no other creature in the deck can be bolted profitably. Bolt is a really bad card against us and if you play confidant this changes. (yes I know there are plenty of decks that play creatures that die to bolt but these are either very cheap or they have so many of them the opponent can't bolt them all) Painful Truths is a better fit for our deck IMO.
Choke I have found not necessary up to now. I'm still beating all those blue decks with relative ease (Jeskai and blue moon are the easiest, grixis is slightly in our favour, esper is usually bad though, but it's not played much). They really struggle with Discard, Goyf, Souls, Lili, Finks. Just play a threat (Goyf is great since it gets under counterspells) and force them to deal with it. This leaves their counterspells, especially remand, rotting in their hand. Anyway I think big control decks (cryptic, wraths, planeswalkers and a tonne of counters), which are bad matchups for us are not very viable in the current meta. They just get thumped by Burn and other hyperaggressive decks.

Welcome back to the bgx community! Abzan is great right now, but it's currently underrepresented especially at my local scene. I'm always the only abzan midrange player there, still sticking to my roots and what I do best as a midrange player.
Dark Confidant is for Jund and Painful Truths is for Junk. We have way too many 3 and 4 drops to use Dark Confidant. Junk is Lightning Bolt proof and playing Dark Confidant changes that. The only compromise to the card draw we're getting is that we will be a lot weaker against Burn and Zoo on game 1.
I do love Bob, but it still appears that he is better placed in Jund right now. Painful Truths is, as I'm told, the actual truth, and with Rhino in the deck we can easily make up the slight loss in life. Even still, Bob generally hurts you more if he sticks for a couple turns, as one 3-drop flip and you're already in the hole deeper.
Anyway, the only change I will make to Craig Krempels list will be swapping in a Slaughter PAct for the maindeck Disfigure, and probably adding a 25th land (Westvale Abbey!) for a discard slot. His board looks good, though I will likely tweak it as well.
Looking forward to getting back into this archetype.

So I have been getting my butt handed to by Living End, Scapeshift, and Ad Nauseum in MTG leagues. I have been consistently going 3-2 and 4-1 but I would like to shore up my matchups vs. Those decks if I could. My current board is this
I was thinking of adding either Scavenging Ooze (I have 2 main) or Nihil Spellbomb but they do nothing vs. Living End and Scapeshift. But is 3 copies of graveyard hate in the board too much? Ooze is good but Spellbomb is better vs LEnd and Grixis but bad against thopter combo. Another option would be a second copy of Damnation that can be brought in vs. Living End, but also something like Elves and Merdolk. But then 3 wraths in the board too much also?
Is there a silver bullet that I am missing? Or should I go for the solid Spellbomb/ Ooze?
I would go with Nihil Spellbomb if you want additional gy hate in the sb. It's the most versatile gy hate you can have for that matter although not always the best against specific matchups. Good thing with it beside what I said is that it's cheap, fast and it also draws you a card. I find Ooze and Nihil Spellbomb (if needed) the best 2 pieces of gy hate and I don't think you need more of that although it seems that gy based decks are bad matchups for BGx no matter what (I'm having troubles recently with Jund against Dredgevine and I assume Junk isn't better). That said I wouldn't go with more gy hate in sb since I rather spend my sb slots elsewhere.
Thanks for the input again buddy. Just to clarify, is 3 slots in the board too much graveyard hate you think? 2 Oozes main with 2 Surgicals and 1 Spellbomb too much in the board?
