Hey guys, I was just looking to see if I could get any criticisms on my deck list. Not completely sure if this is the right place to be posting it or not but it seemed like a good start.
The list isn't super traditional for current Junk with the Birds, Doran, and Sword; but I wanted to try some new things. I haven't play tested much (Only against RDW and UR Delver) and the deck was doing quite well. I was winning about 50% of the time. I haven't put together a sideboard yet either and that is something I could use help with. I'm new to Modern so I'm still learning all the top decks to beat and what to fill my sideboard with.
Has someone played against podless pod? in my meta some players are testing it with great results and it seems very difficult to beat for us
My friend plays Podless Pod/"Wilted"/Little Kid Abzan and it's hard to beat. I haven't actually played it with Abzan Midrange a but with my Jund Midrange list it's super hard to beat.
Multiple copies of Lingering Souls , lots of value creatures that stress our 1 for 1 removal and extreme resilience to discard .
Jund has anger the gods, which is amazing against that deck.
Dragonwaterr, I'd recommend scavenging ooze MB and your sideboard should have stony silence, fulminator mage, burn hate, and cards to bring in against the mirror. Fulminator mage is good against the mirror, but you want to side out all your discard. Cards like the new Sorin are good against burn and the mirror.
I had Scavenging Ooze originally but when I decided to make the deck more aggressive, I decided to run Doran, the Siege Tower over it. A T1 Bird and T2 Doran can really put a decent clock on your opponent. What would I take out of the MB for ooze? Would it be worth running in the SB if I didn't feel he was worth MB?
guess ill post it again since I really want help and I guess I got lost in the active forum lol
so i have recently picked up playing junk/abzan since I was running BGW Death and Taxes and finally just decided to cave and run junk since I had most of it and just bought my 4x goyf lol. Here is my list, please let me know what you think, there is no sideboard because I use my "binder sideboard" and build it based on what people are playing around me since I tend to play with them with my other decks and they use the deck they play in the tourney.
Again any feedback would be great and appreciated. Again just recently picked it up and I did tailor the MB a little more towards my local meta. Batterskull won me a couple games and I was always glad to see it when I drew it. Also not many tokens players near me so that's why I don't main deck Maelstrom Pulse.
I ended my first tournament with the deck 2-1-1, but I lost my match more due to bad play and not having a good feel for the deck yet. The draw im not sure that may have been a draw either way lol.

If you just picked up the deck it might be better to start with something a little more stock. Many of your choices regarding what you are running are meta game items such as running Voice of Resurgence.
Picking on your maindeck I would go -2 Voice of Resurgence, -1 Batterskull, -2 Path to Exile and +1-2 Scavenging Ooze, +1 Siege Rhino, +2 Dismember.
Explanations: Voice has been tried and tested in this deck, if you look... like 20 pages back I even advocated for it at one point. The problem is Voice is not a great top deck unlike our other options like Ooze and Goyf. Batterskull can be good main but you should max out your Rhinos before going for other late game threats. If you are hedging against Burn Bskull is too slow :x. Path goes against our 1-1 strategy so playing 4 is not the greatest plan. Scavenging Ooze is completely underrated by people these days. 2-3 Oozes can dominate late game, far faster than Voice of Resurgence. Rhino is the reason to play this deck right now, it's such a good card. To quote Sony regarding the ps3, it only does... everything. Dismember/Murderous Cut are powerful options that can be cast early just like path to exile without ramping them.
Manabase-wise
6 basics is quite a few too many. Given that your are running Tasigur your fetch setup should approximately be: 9 Fetch, 5 Shock, 4 Basics, 2 Utility lands, 4 Manlands. You can flex on these numbers a bit but manlands give you a ton of late game reach after you can rebuild. Also when you can't slap down dark confidant and draw extra cards to find threats manlands give you some pressure.
Overall, you just need some experience and to tighten up your list a bit. Sideboard is best built just before an event starts so you can get a feel for the room because you have a bazillion options.

@ nightangel: thanks for the help, I ill try to make some of those changes. I only use the batterskull right now because I don't have 4 rhinos currently I only have the 3 so I was using him as a pseudo rhino until a 4th can be located.
So I think what I will try out will be the -2 Voice -1 Path +1 Scavenging Ooze +2 Dismember as well a cutting back -1 basic for +1 manland, I appreciate the feedback and will see how the deck plays out now
Also, would you suggest having the extra 2 Path in my "binder Sideboard" or is there never really a time when we want more than the 2 Path?

The binder sideboard usually enables diversity for your removal spells. I slot stuff like Slaughter Pact, extra pulses and other more expensive removal options into my sideboard. Something I forgot to mention before is I have seen 4 Abrupt Decays before but I usually sit at 3 instead. First time you have two decays in your hand facing down Affinity's manlands you will be a very sad panda.

I have to disagree with only 3 Abrupt decay MB. Abrupt Decay takes out cranial plating, which is their most dangerous card. We have souls tokens to block manlands. Plus we lose game 1 to affinity most of the time, which is I'm going to try out go for the throat MB.
Abrupt decay is very good against all 5 tier 1 decks and with Tron, scapeshift, Storm, and UWR control seeing less play than ever and decks like BW tokens rising in popularity, I want an Abrupt decay in my opening hand nearly every game.
I also agree with 4. Usually we have other methods to get rid of the only non-targets (ink/blinkmoth nexus) like tec edge, GQ or fulminator. There is no reason not to run the full set as it is probably the "best" or most flexible piece of removal in modern.
As I have mentioned before, go for the throat is fantastic to MB. The abrupt decays and tec edge/GQ/fulm take care of all the other creatures, save a metalcraft champion (which targeted removal doesn't hit anyway).

I can't remember where I read this but I recall this for deciding how many copies of a card you want:
1 - something you did for but if you don't see it it's okay
2 - something you see most games after a few rounds
3 - something you see in most opening hands and potentially cast two in a game
4 - something you commonly see in your opening hand and will almost always cast two if not three in a game
I'm not sure why diversifying our options is not more viable. The other side of this is if you keep them low on threats you needn't worry about Cranial Plating (or rather worry less). It really depends on their hand composition for how many dudes vs haymakers (ie Plating or Ravager) they have.
GftT is not an option that we should be playing. Making our g1 versus Affinity even worse to marginally (at best) improve our other matchups seems wierd. If you guys aren't playing Dark Confidant you should really look into Murderous Cut. Coming off 1 mana and fixing the yard for your Tasigur is really helpful. You can also cast it early with fetches and disruption spells in the yard so it really shines.

Find something, Live For it, Fight for it, Die for it. Then it might get passed on the the next generation.
The problem is, how many murderous cuts are you realistically playing for 1 mana every game (against something fast like affinity)? 1? 2? Especially if you're casting Tasigur, the yard just can't support running that many delve cards. That's not even taking into consideration being able to have goyf be reliably over a 2/3--3/4 or if cut gets *shudder* remanded. Blue delver decks could because of the sheer volume of cantrips and card-draw. Jund can do it slightly more easily as they run a full set of bolts and don't need/want to flash back lingering souls.
Decks where GftT is bad: Affinity, Tron.
For affinity, there are options like decay to help in G1. You may not see the 1-of cut for it to matter and with 2 copies its pretty unlikely you're casting both for 1 mana, unless its late game (and your probably winning anyway). It's a really difficult MU G1 anyway. G2/3 is where the SB can help blowout the affinity player.
For tron, yes G1 GffT sucks against wurmcoil. But G2/G3 I want path or Unravel anyway instead of destruction removal.
TBH the removal suite this deck should be running depends largely on the decks you're going to see at your LGS. At a big tourney, look at some lists played at major events and get a feel for the types of decks you're going to see. I'm not saying cut is bad (it is a fine card), I just think there should be MAX 1 copy per deck. GffT can be played in multiples and is broad enough for the tier 1 metagame to warrant its inclusion.

I've noticed recent that all the recent Abzan lists that run the 12 creature package (2x Ooze & Tasigur, 4x Rhino & Goyf) have shifted from 24 to 25 lands. Does anyone know why? Can anyone break it down for me.

My favorite Magic Card of all time is Traumatize. I don't win very often.
I personally run 25 lands because I 3x manland, and 4x utility lands. I like 25 because it cuts my chances of having to play one at the wrong time. I tested both 24 and 25 lands and 25 just feels smoother. No early land drop misses is very important to us

Thanks everyone for the help. I have been trying to build this right. I did think about murderous cut but I also did not like that idea due to having tasigur however I have though about one mb slaughter pact since dismember can be expensive in life also if needed so I think I may try a pact mb.
What do you guys think of the variant that Top 8'd the Maine TCG Modern States? Looks to be an interesting twist on the archetype with the full compliment of Restoration Angels, main deck Thragtusks, and even Cloudshift. Do you think it has any staying power?

Game 1: We trade discard spells early, I manage to land a goyf and a few spirit tokens. I get pretty low on life due to double Liliana's Caress into Blightning I topdeck Sorin, Solemn Visitor and gain too much life for him.
Game 3: He opens with a Leyline of the Void, but I'm not woried because I have double Dromoka's Command in hand. I discard his blightning, play an Ooze. He just cast a waste not and a caress on consecutive turns. I blow out his enchantments with the commands and Abrupt decay, but not before he gets me to 5 life. He is at 3 when Rupert comes to town.
1-0
Round 2 Standard deck?!?!
Game 1 & 2 Complete domination. Kid showed up late and got a bye, paired up against me and GG.
Gave him some rules and deck advice, doing my duty as a judge
2-0
Round 3 Affinity
Game 1: She gets a Vault Skirge equipped with Cranial Plating and hits me for 11 then plays another skirge. I manage to fight the Skirge with Dromoka's command and sacrifice the other Skirge to Liliana. I have two goyfs on board and swing for 10. She has Ensoul Artifact GG. Should have been more conservative
Game 2 & 3 Turn 2 Stony Silence both games get wrecked and locked out of the game
3-0
Round 4 Burn
Game 1: He gets stuck on one land while I drop back to back Rhinos. I actually thoughtseized and dropped Bob down in this game
-4 Bob -3 Thoughtseize +3 Timely Reinforcements +2 Engineered Explosives +1 Dragonlord Dromoka +1 Blood Baron

Game 2: I mull to five finding a lone swamp. It does not work out.
Game 3: I keep an alright hand. I get a goyf down to block his Goblin Guide. I get double Boros Charmed and then Skullcracked.
3-1
Observations: Dromoka's Command is good, I like its versatility and will be keeping it. I threw the Dragonlord Dromoka in for kicks, would not actually run that at a high level event lol. I will add one more stony silence and take out something. I will probably add a pair of Chokes and a Thrun, the Last Troll for states this weekend.

Is there a "best" abzan list right now? I see a lot of list with noble hierachs, or birds of paradise and doran and some list without mana dorks and dorans.
Some jund list playing now with outpost siege. Its time for phyrexian arena in abzan?
Why no bob and leave tasigur out of the list? card advantage wins games. and its only real bad against zoo and burn.
No, there is no 'best' abzan list. Just like there is no 'best' deck in modern. 1/2 of winning a tournament is correctly metagaming and knowing how to build your deck. When you're look at the decklists, make sure you also look at the other decks in the top 8 to help you figure out why that deck did well in that metagame.
Outpost Siege doesnt die to Abrupt Decay, which is the bigger reason its seeing play.
wanna go to my first modern event for month's and plan to play junk, so i check out what is currently played
vs what decks would you want thrun ?
i allways used to play him vs jund, but jund is barely played anymore, since people go junk. and vs junk i think sigarda is the better card
or am i wrong ?
You want Thrun against decks with counterspells and mass removal. You want Sigarda against wrathless fair decks.
The above thread has competitive lists more in line with the cards you have available. Tier 1 requires Goyfs (I kid I kid)

Game 1: We trade discard spells early, I manage to land a goyf and a few spirit tokens. I get pretty low on life due to double Liliana's Caress into Blightning I topdeck Sorin, Solemn Visitor and gain too much life for him.
-4 Bob -3 Liliana +2 Engineered Explosive +2 Maelstrom Pulse +3 Timely Reinforcements
Game 2: Double Waste Not into Blightning into zombie apocalypse GG
-4 Bob -3 Liliana +2 Stony Silence +2 Engineered Explosives +3 Timely Reinforcements -2 Thoughtseize +2 Maelstrom Pulse
(GO BIG or GO HOME )
Game 2: I mull to five finding a lone swamp. It does not work out.
Game 3: I keep an alright hand. I get a goyf down to block his Goblin Guide. I get double Boros Charmed and then Skullcracked.
3-1
Observations: Dromoka's Command is good, I like its versatility and will be keeping it. I threw the Dragonlord Dromoka in for kicks, would not actually run that at a high level event lol. I will add one more stony silence and take out something. I will probably add a pair of Chokes and a Thrun, the Last Troll for states this weekend.

You want Thrun against decks with counterspells and mass removal. You want Sigarda against wrathless fair decks.
This is not the place for budget lists or discussions, sorry.
