As far as the SB goes, I’m kind of perplexed. Is everyone really condoning Leyline right now?
Leylines has a lot going for it, though probably less than the prior meta of GDS to be fair.
First of all, it's multipurpose which is huge in general sideboarding strategy. Not only do we bring it in against burn, but it hits many other decks. It demands an answer from storm, lantern, valakut in terms of meta decks, and can be situationally sided in against decks running a lot of targeted discard like jund.
Second, it's free and comes down turn 1 which is a big deal. Compared to the more traditional boar/weaver/gnaw, they come down on turn 3 which is a critical turn when we also want to wipe the board to relieve creature pressure and start pressuring ourselves.
Finally, it requires the opponent to recognize we're on leyline and side in the correct card. For burn decks they need destructive revelry and we're very likely to squeak a free win if they don't expect leylines in the first post board game. And if they do have it, they need to have it and play it proactively to start playing their game. With board/gnaw/weaver, we're at the mercy of unknown information and potentially being blown out by anti-lifegain cards like skullcrack and command.
The downsides of leyline of course is that it's a dead card if we draw it and we have to mulligan for it. Luckily, living end does mull quite well and it's certainly not the end of the world to go to 5 or even 4 aggressively searching for it. I remember reading a while back on leyline probability breakdowns of seeing at least 1 at the start of the game and with 4 leyline produces has a ~40% chance of having 1 in the opener and it hops to ~60% if we mull to 6 and increases so on.
Finding my 15th sb slot tricky. Lost legacy, k command and anger all underwhelmed. My current sb is
4 leyline of sanctity
1 faerie Macabre
2 maelstrom pulse
2 ricochet trap
3 chewer
2 shriekmaw
+ 1. Thinking about bow of nyela. Anyone tried it?
Thanks for the responses, guys. I had just started getting comfortable and decently proficient (very proficient for me!) when I put LE down, so I’m excited to start running it again. I think this is where I would like to start, moving forward:
As far as the SB goes, I’m kind of perplexed. Is everyone really condoning Leyline right now? I just recently acquired 4x of them for the Bogles deck I just put together. I wanted a deck I could pilot if I was whisky-drunk on a Friday night. You put the things on your dudes and turn them sideways, unless you have a Coronet and then you don’t have to turn them sideways. All half-joking aside, four slots is quite the commitment for a SB card. Let me take a crack at a SB with Leyline and maybe y’all could help me with it:
Whadaya think? Any advice is greatly appreciated, as always. I’m pretty stoked about running LE again.
Swear i see you everywhere now that i jumped ship off the UR/x bandwagon to come back to jund decks.
I'm personally not a big fan of leylines as people have no way to hard cast them usually in most decks. I would prefer to honestly run some anti burn tech and a few other cards for other match up's.

Alright, this one is a stretch but bear with me. Memorial to War
What if LE just went straight up Ponaz? We have 2 creatures that play well with LE, cyclers to get us there, ramp to keep up with the opponent, and now what is basically a very slow stripmine.
What if the core of the deck looked like:
4 Avalanche riders
4 Fulminator Mage
4 Ceradon (the finisher probably)
4 SSG
X Sowing Salt (sideboard)
x Memorial to War
x Beast within
I could imagine a land destruction variant actually having better matchups against specific metas. This land kinda just pushed me over the edge in thinking about it.
So i've been taking a break from Modern a little, but returning to this format just made me realize how sweet is this deck. I mean, when the deck works is so sweet to cycle your hand. I've been testing 2 Thragtusk in the SB for grindy matchups, and so far it feels great. The value it gives is awesome and it's something most people don't expect.
I also prefer no Combo hate in the SB like Lost legacy even though it's a great card, i feel that we can race most combo decks unless they are some incredibly nasty ***** like Cheerios.
Only two Beast Within in his 75. Must be tough getting rid of Rest in Peace on board or other enchantments (8-rack, bogles).
Otherwise pretty straightforward decklist.
RW Blaze Commando Soldier Swarm BW Edgewalker Clerics i.e. All the prevention R Ogre Menial (Fallen Feromancer) Tunnelin' Infectors GB Shaman of the Pack Elves URReclusive Artificer Artifact Control GBCatacomb Sifter Sac-Attack

you don’t need beast within for da bogs. That matchup is soooooo good for us anyway. The deck folds to a living end
I feel like 2 Beast Within is the right number unless the meta is overloaded with Rest in Peace decks. Chance of drawing one if you play 2 are reasonable with all the cycling.
The 3 Archfiend are far more interesting. I'm also always looking at the third wondering if i want it but everytime i deicide to go for it they clunk up. maybe im just incredibly unfortunate. Also the Dresher list is loaded with spice in the sb. Somebody has any experience with some of these sb cards (eg. Kalitas and Chandra)?
They seem bad. SCG classics are for peasants who scrub out of the open. I never take stock in those lists. SCG open is already iffy enough
I remember a time playing the deck when I had both fulminator mage and avalanche riders in the deck at the same time. designating a few spots to riders for extra land destruction isn't bad.
though you need to be on landcycling creatures to ensure you get to 4/5 mana consistently with this plan.
however we have Faultgrinder which is 1 less mana than memorial to war plus your not losing a land. why bother with memorial when we have grinder?
Interestingly had two main deck Dead//Gone and only one Beast Within.
Third Archfiend was present in every list from this weekend.

I'm not sure I follow why would you waste a cascade on deadgone? are you sure they wrote the cards down right? Sideboard of chalice of the void??? that doesn't seem to follow living end's basic fundamentals.....
still doesn't completely understand on the archfiend of ifnir inclusion on the recent list.
sure it is can be easily hardcasted if necessary but you almost never cast it from hand ever, most people doesn't even use the superior jungle weaver back then.
i think its better to put other one mana cycler on the slot (deadshot minotaur or architects of will)
dead // gone if primarily for aggro decks but i found that it is far more effective just to jam shriekmaw on the slot.
i think living end is picking up steam because people with sub optimized list can still put up good result on scg open and classic.
I thought with the Amonkhet update to split cards you can't cascade into Dead // Gone any more with three mana cascaders. Again it is an SCG classic but it seems like shriekmaw is always the better choice or a side-boarded Anger of the Gods.

You don't cascade into it. The CMC of split cards is now the combined total. It is either a shock or a creature bounce spell for this deck, and I gotta admit I'm gonna try it at some point because the bounce seems very useful in some situations, and having a shock for early Goblin guides may not be a terrible thing.
Is anyone else concerned with playing against Taking Turns? I am specifically worried about the mono-blue builds more than the dual color ones because we cannot attack the mana base and they can gigadrowse/exhaustion us pretty handily if we do go off, plus they run countermagic including remand which is solid against us.
I'm thinking that 3-4 Ricochet traps may have to become standard fare in the sideboard now, not only because it can deal with remand but also because you can ricochet a Timewarp or Walk the Aeons at yourself and hopefully if they have Dictates out you will outdraw them into game.
