Overall a very good event for me, though, almost every person asked me why I didn't just play dredge, which I did not know was a deck in the format as I have been away for some time. Is that deck really so much better as to make it so that I shouldn't be playing LE?
If someone saw me playing LE and insinuated that I should be playing Dredge instead, I'd have to suppress the urge to just drop them with a left.
This is mostly my stance as well, but what are the pros/cons of the decks that it would bring up this comparison?
Dredge doesn't really want to interact with their opponent unless they're pointing a lethal Conflagrate at their head.
Living End is more interactive (i.e., wrathing the opponent, blowing up their lands), but isn't nearly as explosive.

the other big thing is we can over come rest in peace better than Dredge!
We are getting some number of these cards in this new set. So far these 2 are the only ones with reasonable costs but the whole point is they can cast LE from hand. Right now the issue is the effects they have are actually counter to what you want to do, as wiping your opponents board BEFORE casting LE is probably not a great idea unless they are creature light or free. that being said just the value of being able to cast LE from hand is tempting enough to make me want to look at all of these. The green one costs 6 and has a mostly useless effect, So I'll assume that's a no go, and we have not seen what the red one does or if it will be 3cmc or less and not 2 or less.
I just hope the red one is reasonable, because casting a sweeper right before LE is a special kind of terrible. And I'm not about to stuff my deck with WW cards in the off chance I draw Living End.

Anyway, a man can dream right?
lets just agree now, they all suck for us!!!!
all we can do is cast living end with them! I don't mean just LE from your hand! I mean our 3ccs spells are too few for them to be effective, 8 of our 3cc violent outburst and demonic dread just lead to living end. the other 8 are fulminator mage and beast within, neither of which feels uber good after casting either one of these Expertise spells.
Cute, but the deck already runs 7 cascades at 3 mana and could run an 8th if it wanted to, or even up to 12 if it wanted to splash for ardent plea. I don't think we are looking for this at all, I think the only missing piece is really the ability to do something with them when they clog up your hand.
new spoiler from aether revolt, kinda hit or miss but probably worth to consider.
this would be perfect if it only hits instant or sorcery.
it kind of has the properties of a wall. if something big comes at us it dies and can flip us most likely into Cascade spell ---> into living end. which pending on the situation, fulminator mage/beast within wouldn't be bad flips either.
its an interesting sequence, it dies, it will trigger allowing for a possible living end and then will be revived, in a block scenario.
like so many things i don't think overall it is adding anything to what we already do....

Guys, I think we are looking at this from wrong angle. I think, this will deserve place or 2 in my SB. I havent had time yet but I have won LCQ for RPTQ in december with LE. The actual RPTQ tournament went worse, mainly because 3 matches with this one deck: i dont know, how its officialy called, but its basically RW hardlock: ensnaring bridge, blood moon, chalice of the void plus any wincondition (planeswalkers or assembly the legion).
I could almost always get rid of chalice or bridge, but sometimes, i got screewed hard by double or triple blood moon with no green or black for cascade spell. this card could save me. but right now I realize, I would need a way to kill it myself....so maybe it wouldn't make that big a difference.
Still, i think its a useful card, like I said, against blood moon (if opponent plays threats that can kill this dude) or maybe against jund/ eldrazi as a advantage against their many discard/thought-not seers hitting you cascade spell. I Imagine this dude can hold the line alone, against army of goyfs or eldrazi, because of the threat of wiping entire board. But then again, these matchups shouldn't really be focus of SB, we have the advantage, right?
Anyway, what do you think of this?
EDIT: only now I realize, it hits 3 or less, no less than 3 is we are used to...so....if I took out fulminators, hitting beast from within could help, to blast that blood moon, or hitting cascade spell or LE directly would work too. So Im not really convinced about this yet...

This is basically like the time we all convinced ourselves that Bloodbraid Elf was worth playing as an "extra cascade spell but it's okay if it hits Fulminator Mage or Beast Within because those are still good too, guys."

I remember that disaster. Mana aside, this card is just worse than BBE. Though I don't think there's been an inclusion-worthy one spoiled yet, casting 3 or less out of hand is much more valuable. Being able to cast a drawn Living End without suspend is a decent upside.

Won't cast anything but living end though since it's 2 cmc or less
The ability is not the worst thing in the world even if you do not have a LE in hand, since it is real possible they have some high value target like an eldrazi or something you can yoink for benefit. I think this card COULD be a 1 of in a list as a way to purge a LE out of your hand, perhaps as a sideboard option for control matches. It being mono red is nice too as it allows you to cast from under a blood moon.
besides everybody's excitement 'bout new spoiler cards, i got a reasonable issue.
In my local Meta (and above that too), the rage is all about this Prowess-Decks nowadays.
You know - Jeskai Aggro, UR Kiln Fiend Combo, Grixis Delver.
It's a bit tough to handle those decks because they run a couple of Counterspells, Burn and don't rely on a huge Boardstate.
I put some thoughts towards sideboarding, which is tough. So i concluded that my best bet is to board into more Midrange-
Threats + Lifegain and dodge the all-in Combo Plan.
Here's my initial idea:
Put in a couple of Brindle Boar (2-3x), Thrun, the Last Troll (uncounterable) and a 2nd Shriekmaw. Therefore i can handle early threats, gain Life / stall-block and develope my Boardstate.
If Temur Battle Rage is on teh line, i'll board Ricochet Trap too because it doubles as an anti-
counter tech and redirecting Temur Battle Rage to my Creatures (they tend to run a whole bunch of Cantrips
anyways).
Do you think this plan will put some serious wins under my belt?
heavy aggro meta = 2 shriekmaw main, 2 sb. also many list feature kitchen finks in the sideboard as a 2 or 3 of for lifegain ricochet trap is always a go to sideboard against counterspell, however they are some times that you dont want to side in too many of this especially if they only run 3-4 counter and dispel that doesn't affect living end. i think there is a section that explain how to fight counter magic in the primer. thrun, the last troll is great against deck that relies on spot removal like jeskai, jund and abzan.
if you concerned against burn you could always add 3 leyline of sanctity. leyline is also great to combat discard.
Won't cast anything but living end though since it's 2 cmc or less

It's almost like they knew we were desperate for a good card out of this cycle, and decided to make it "cmc 2 or less" just to piss us off. lol

I was wondering that myself, they just want to taunt the cascade decks with cards like expertise and treasure keeper.....
If only there were something like jace, vryn's prodigy ability for getting double use out of a living end, that would be an improvement.
I'm new to modern and ive been tolling around with this deck ive noticed its very suicidal, what with all the dual lands and fetches, im usually at 10 life when i go off, how do i get around this

I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

I truly believe you are doing something incorrect if you can say this. What is your list, are you fetching shocks when you should be getting basics, are you cycling wraiths when you should hold, etc.
