This is my current testing platform. I've seen good results against RG versions because of countermagic, but I'm still iffy on subtle plays. It's quite consistent at 4-5 with disruption though.
Maybe it won't actually work out, but Snapcaster Mage seems like it could be pretty insane. Flashing back cantrips/dig, ramp spells (when you need to reach 7/8), and Scapeshift itself all seem like powerful and relevant plays.
This build is more permission heavy, and less ramp oriented than most. So far I've noticed this deck (and a lot of the RUG lists posted so far) is pretty weak to RWU delver and other fast aggro decks. Some Clasms in the main would probably help.
and just for fun, my try at a wargate build (basically just valakut in a UW control shell):
why do all the wargate versions i see only run 1 scapeshift that doesnt make sense to me ill prolly feel like a idiot as soon as its pointed out to me but thanks
The fallouts are main because they help against aggro and deal with GST, in a more balanced meta they would be in board for sure.
I really really like Gifts Ungiven in this list, when you cast Gifts EOT (on 6 or 7 land ofc) 95% of the time you can cast scape shift next turn or at least have an active valakut with land. It just feels broken.
I might tweak the numbers on repeal, cause it seems the weakest but we will see where that goes, and I'm also considering sowing salt for the games against RG tron, but so far it seems like I have the upper hand in the race anyway.

Nice, have you considered using Peer Through the Depths?
I have but I don't know what I would cut, I was looking at the repeals but then I need to slash two more, it seems really good, like better than preordain good here, but I like the raw draw is better because it lets me run less lands.
EDIT: And another treat I just realized is that that RUG versions get access to Izzet charm and and Epic Experiment once the new set comes out, I definitely want to test it out.

scapeshift is 100% dead unless you have prismatic omen in play.
I've always been a Valakut player, and I was glad to hear that this bad boy is back and I can finally dust off my deck and break out the old flaming mountain for some more modern fun. I reconstructed the deck, and I'm currently working with this:
And then a sideboard with general variant hate. I'm still working out a lot of the kinks, but So far I'm 4--0 against a mirror match, won by a boundless realms, against some sliver variant, against Jund, and then against white weenie/Sands/life gain.
If anyone would like to suggest tweaks, we can reshape my deck and start constructing a new "blueprint" build for Valakut.

imo these deck ideas have gotten way out of hand. i just dont like the idea of tainting the deck with snapcasters and what not. its pretty much the same pile of cards as other decks except the combo pieces

That's where I started and added the combo elements.
Standard - Naya Midrange
Issue is we don't do much on turn 2 :|
Also, why doesn't anyone like Lotus Cobra? He was all the rage in the old valakut lists, manaramps like crazy, and combos with scapeshift.

Scape Gifts is definitely an interesting direction to take the deck--reminds me of Gifts Twin.

This makes no sense. Why wouldn't you play Snapcaster? It's a fifth Scapeshift at the least.
