MTG Salvation

Hey guys, I'm still not sure if UWr is back or not. But it seems like that there's still hope. After watching Fabianos list. I also tried to run a 4 Serum Visions version of UWr. There's no more draw-go. But in this kind of meta, I really doubt draw-go is viable. I have also included a variation of the top4 UWrb control list. I playtested this list against twin today. Serum really helped out smoothing our draws, and I really liked it.
the 4C version only have 24 lands (with 2 tec edges), something is telling me that this is way to greedy. But playtesting showed me that it worked out fine. It may be problematic vs. faster decks tho...
I was sold on playing Scapeshift for an upcoming PPTQ. But the 4c control list gave me some hope. So yea, I really dig the Souls, and Teaching. Any thoughts guys? Or is it just plain bad?

Affinity and infect are great match ups for this deck you don't need souls to beat them. I don't see how souls is good versus bogles. You're still drawing dead unless you have main deck hallowed burial, engineered explosives, or cackling doom.

It gives you more game versus liliana, but people are shaving lilianas since she's bad versus everyone playing lingering souls.

The only real thing I see that makes the 4C version better is souls, which isn't particularly relevant except to answer opposing souls, and the ability to play crackling doom in the sideboard which I think could just be celestial flare instead. I'm sticking to straight UWR for now.

I also personally feel like a draw-go list is still viable, which is why I'm trying to make it work. I don't think that we gain enough by playing sorceries like souls to make it worth having the dead card in hand when we have to constantly hold up countermagic or removal against twin and abzan.

I played this 4C control online yesterday. I changed a little between games, mainly in sideboard. Here is some thoughts:
1)Souls are so good, good enough to play the 4th color. They race with colonnades. They borrow time for Wrath. And they bring card advantage by turning PTE \Tarmo\Liliana into bad cards.
2)Flashfreeze is good against almost everything. It counters majoy cards of Twin\Abzan\Little kid\Burn\Moon, which makes it a universal and efficient answer to Meta.
3)Tasigur is a good topdeck in control decks. Once I grind, I summon him in topdecking mode.
4)Since we play the Wrath and Revelation magic, we need 26 lands. Cantrips can't replace lands.
5)Play 4 PTEs, the best removal you have.

Hard to say for sure but I think Telling Time might be better simply because even if we don't want the card on top we can just fetch to shuffle it away. That being said no one plays telling time (except the occasional Scapeshift list) so I doubt Anticipate will be making any waves in modern.

Have been playing WRU geist for years and swapped over to keranos control last season, Just wondering why no Remand? I understand mana leak is better in this deck but is the general agreement that 0 is the best number?
I really like crackling doom as well.
My only lost last IQ were to Boggles (Close game) and WRU geist.
I ran a heavy counter list 3/remand/3leak/2 snare/3 cryptic/3snap along with 1Jace AOT/1 OG Elspeth/Keranos/Ajani V main. Loved the deck but really enjoy the idea of souls and having crackling doom.

26 lands 2 tec edge/1 ghost quarter in board with CoW

I have tried out the 4cc builds and I have found that while nice to have, the extra damage from the extra shock lands has added up, and I hate to tap out early on my turn, so i'm gonna stick with a tradtional UWR control list.

You don't add extra shocklands, you replace ones you already have. I run 7 shocklands. I've done so for a while, sometimes gone to 6, but either works.

I splash black for Tasigur and Lingering Souls, but if Crackling Doom gets better, I can play that.

My counterspells at the moment are 3 Mana Leak, 2 Remand, 2 Spell Snare, 3 Cryptic Command, and you could probably count Shadow of Doubt as a counterspell. I've stepped away from my brother Ajani Vengeant. He wasn't doing enough. Crucible of Worlds is cool, but not that useful.

Something I've never liked about UWR control is that we want to drag the game long, but then play Mana leak (it's especially painful with path). It seems to me that when we're in this situation, it can really ruin our long term advantage--especially since we have to play more lands than other people. I wish we had better counterspells in Modern right now. I think the base of 4 helix/4 path/4 bolt is very strong in the very aggressive meta right now. While UWR uses this core fairly well, I keep feeling like there's a better way to take advantage of the good base.

As for souls, I really wanted to try something like 4 Rune Snag, 4 Lingering Souls alongside 4 Thought Scour, but I think it's pretty bad since thought scour is worthless :/

It just feels to me that mana leak points out a huge fundamental flaw with the deck. Any deck which wants to run the game long and run path shouldn't have to find room for mana leak, yet it shows up in almost every list. I think that illustrates a huge problem with the archetype currently if it has to run a card like mana leak. I almost feel like choosing Negate or Essense Scatter could be viable instead.

Would this deck ever consider biting the bullet and running a couple of Dissolve? Or at least some number of maindeck Counterflux?

I know a 3 mana counter isn't good in the format, but were bending over backwards talking about playing conditional counters over mana leaks. Maybe a 2/2 split so your topdeck counterspells aren't just dead late game. I dunno. I'll probably be roasted for it, but I really hate mana leak and am not unconvinced that 1 more mana wouldn't be worth it.

Honestly, I think Flashfreeze is maindeckable in the current meta and could fill the shoes of mana leak, potentially. Almost every single deck is running red or green right now and has worthwhile targets. It does hurt in some of the blue matchups, but it's pretty solid elsewhere, especially in not dying to burn.

Mana Leak is excellent for the first 4-5 turns. Path is excellent in killing the bigger creatures.

Flashfreeze is definitely something to consider.

I wouldnt go to more than six, I think five(1 steam vents, 1 blood crypt, 1 fountain, 1 godless shrine, 1 foundry) is just fine.

Especially against control, you need at least 6 fetches. Tectonic Edge on the right land really hurts. I run 3 Steam Vents, 2 Watery Grave, 1 Hallowed Fountain and 1 Sacred Foundry. I have 5 white sources, 5 red sources, but only 2 black ones. Tec Edge can really hurt when I want to play Tasigur, so having the 2nd black source which also produces blue is very necessary.

What is everyone's thoughts on running 2 Jace Beleren? Seems like with so much Junk running around, it could be a good source of card advantage (or at least fighting through Liliana). Is it just too vulnerable in the current meta?
