I have a friend who's getting into playing modern locally, and while I don't care much for modern (I take the good cards out of my legacy enchantress build and stuff in some random terrible modern things that cost more mana and don't have shroud), he's getting serious about playing UWR control. His biggest problem the last few FNM's has been the other UWR player, losing in the finals in the mirror every time. What is the general consensus for sideboarding for the mirror? I know it's pretty typical to bring in countermagic, relic, and crucible, but has anyone considered running a miser's aetherling and cavern of souls backed up by bringing in rest in peace (and obviously cutting snapcaster mages) to try and next-level your opponent? On paper, it seems relevant since a caverns means the aetherling will resolve and be unanswerable if properly set up, and it seems to me that cutting crucible for an extra land and cutting graveyards hard will leave your opponent with more dead cards (no tec-edge recursion, crucible dead, sub-par snapcaster mage 1 for 1's, etc)? Has this been tested and found wanting, or is it a valid tactic for the mirror to just blank their post-board strategy? I'd do it in legacy in a heartbeat but I really don't have much experience in modern.

Not sure that's the way to go in the mirror...For me, I bring in an extra V. Clique (go to 2), 2 Combusts, and a Timely Reinforcements to go along with the counter magic (Relics too of course). If you're going to try to side into anything in the mirror the best answer is probably Geist of St. Traft, but he is very bad in a lot of the other MU's, so he can be a narrow SB card. Some people may also bring in Teferi, who is probably a better SB option than Geist. YMMV.
I like Elspeth, Kight Errant a lot! But I'm deciding whether to put her in the main or not. What decks does she just hose? I can't seem to think, maybe aggro deck for chumps?

to block and to be a finisher. maindeckable, and doesn't hose anything, since she's not a hoser.
You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
anyone have suggestions for SB against combo? moreso something against ad nauseum than against pyromancer ascension (a few ppl in my meta play it). Some possibilities I've been considering are:
1) Render Silent: more versatile in that it can go in against other decks that want to play a bunch of spells in one turn like Zoo or 8rack and that it can hit an angel's grace and hold off for a turn with the downside of being counterable (unlike counterflux) and combo can go off the next turn.
2) Runed Halo/Nevermore: solid answers that can go in against a lot of decks in the format. can be removed by patrician's scorn, but pyromancer ascension can't really deal with it.
3) Leyline of Sanctity: same deal with #2.
4) Angel's Grace: similar to #1 but has the problem of just letting the player go off a turn later
5) Pithing Needle: versatile SB card (twin, pod) that only affects ad nauseum (combowise). some decks may play Hurkyl's recall and blow past you anyway, but from the lists I've seen there aren't that many copies in their SB.
6) Chalice of the Void (probably one of my top choices right now). amazing against Zoo, good against boggles, can stop suspended lotus blooms or 1CMC cantrip/angel's grace/silence but is a little less strong and can get recalled
7) Spellskite. another fantastic SB card that is good against Twin, burn, boggles, mirror but can get recalled or destroyed easily by creature removal.
I'm sure I've missed a bunch of things, but I was wondering what your guys thoughts were. Are there any cards worth considering that I missed? Any cards mentioned above that are clear YES/NO? thanks!
Against Ad Nauseum, Counterflux would be good. They only run 1 win condition and can only try to go off once before being forced to discard to maximum hand size. Getting around Pact of Negation is huge.
thanks, probably going to maindeck her. I can handle every deck in my meta but just can't beat Bogles. Any suggestions? I main Hallowed burial for them and Pod and in the side I have Spellskite, 2x Temptest of light/Runed Halo, Wear//Tear, and Porphyry Nodes.

Celestial Flare (WW hard to cast though) is an option and also an instant.

Didn't think of that. Will test it. Let's say the have a bogle with rancor on it. Is it right to flash in a snap with two mana to block and trade? Going back in flare, their totem armor will just stop it, right?

Celestial Flare stops them for good since the creature gets sacrificed and not destroyed. Regeneration , indestructible and totem armor are useless against it.
Well, if one plays against the same people every week and a particular matchup is troublesome every time, I'm not opposed to use narrow hate cards. It's a whole different story when you're playing in an open field. In other cases you should metagame accordingly.
celestial flare, even though narrow, still can't be underrated. it's an instant, which is a bonus, even though the bonus is rarely relevant since bogles is a matchup you won't mind tapping out on turn 1.
an engineered explosives also nature claim able. idk, if bogles even played it.

woot. does bogle play leyline anyway? idk sorry lol. then, i'll give my vote to engineered explosives.
Some dummy boarded it in against me the other day. I can't imagine it's common, since it's just such a terrible idea. The same guy also brought in Rule of Law and went on a rampage about "MODO screwing him" after he cast Ethereal Armor onto my Spellskite and it was pumped by his other enchantments...not a very experienced player.

Sorry but do you mind if I ask why is it a bad idea to play Leyline of Sanctity for Bogle? Thank you.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

I'm sure it has some reason to be in the sideboard, but I can't imagine it should be brought in against UWR. That's what I meant.
