I think u should cut 1 Open, 2 lands and 1 Codex and add 2 Bloom and 2 eggs. Recommend Conjurer's Bauble. Having another option to infinite loop (not only Spellbomb + Codex)is nice against gravehate. And I should play Pact of Negation/Swan Song/Silence in place of Defense Grid. Opponents will side in artifact hate, so Grid won't be so useful 100% of time. It's 1 mana more expensive than countermagic, can be played around and stops our Faith's Reward for value - good option to win through card and mana advantage war.
Playtesting that KCI-less build more has made me realize that it comes up short on mana more often than I'd like. I'm now considering that list but swapping out the elsewhere flasks for KCI's. Thoughts?
I'm not really a fan of hatching plans because it does nothing until the turn we go off and can't be sacrificed to KCI, it just seems too cute to me.
Sooo can the spoiled Alchemist's Vial help by giving another drae effect for the deck? It's ability is useless but I don't know if the added redundancy helps at all.
Unrelated: I'm going to be taking a break from the deck for a while because I got some exciting new pieces for some other decks. Sorry guys. Here's the list I settled on for the past week though:
The one thing I still wanted to do was to find a way to fit sleight of hands back in the deck, because I feel like they added a lot. I'll probably come back to the deck in a few months, but I think for the moment I'm a bit burned out, and my local meta is starting to pack more hate for it than I'd like.
I'm still debating wether I should run 1 Pyrite Spellbomb mainboard as the win condition instead of Blue Sun's Zenith (moving it to the sideboard then). Thoughts guys?
That looks quite like the list I 5-0'd a Modern Festival Prelim with.
Are you playing this on paper? If so, you can run 2x Shredder instead of Zenith and show your opponent the loop. I also board the Emrakul for any matchups I think will possibly have Leyline (and I also board in Glares, obviously). Emmy also plays around GY hate because depending on their clock you can just find a KCI and sac everything to him to win through it anyway.
As for Spellbomb over Shredder - it helps cantrip when you aren't trying to use it as your wincon, so your first few FR you can draw a card to get your engine going vs it sitting dead in your hand.
I've gotten kind of frustrated and not touched the deck in a minute because on MTGO I keep running into stuff like Merfolk with MD relic and a bunch of control decks. But if your meta is full of stuff like Jund or other combo decks I see it still being very strong.

Hey, cool to see you're on this thread; I saw your 5-0 and was inspired to bust out the old list after not touching it for quite a while.
I have a couple questions pertaining to your list, which I've been testing with lately:
Do you not like Banefire as the maindeck wincon? Banefire always seemed easier to me. Is it just that you can Reshape for the spellbomb?
What's with the 4x Glare of Heresy in the board? I feel like Disenchant is better because of the instant speed and ability to hit Relic of Progenitus or Chalice of the Void on 1. The only upside I can see to Glare is that their stuff can't be Snapcaster'd or that you can hit creatures with it. Do those come up often enough to justify it, you think?
Curious what made you decide on 19 lands? I would expect mega flood, but it actually feels really good somehow.
I'm not Leoj, but I the answers I'd give are that you can reshape for spellbomb and it's useful mid-combo as well. Glare is nice because if you disenchant a stony silence and then open the vaults, the stony silence comes back.
Those are the answers I'd give, at least. I'm curious as to how you found Terrarion because I've never been a huge fan of that card. I'm also intrigued by Radiant Fountain, is the 2 life really worth it over not having another blue source for reshape?
Also, did you find you had any problems not being able to find Glare of Heresy or other sideboard cards without serum visions?
Finally, what was your sideboarding plan like? I never know what to take out.
Banefire runs into the same issue I posted above about Zenith. Spellbomb is useful if you are earlier in the cycle, and you can Reshape for Shredder, rebuy and grab Spellbomb if you have multiple recursions in hand.
We tried echoing truth in the glare slot. But truth is only good if you're casting it the turn before you go off, whereas you can just glare something and move on with your life. Glare also hits things you just scoop to if you're running Disenchant, like Teeg. It also hits Thalia which is nice value, and enchantments you hit with it don't recur if you have to cast Open the Vaults.
Terrarion generates you mana with KCI and also let's you Reshape early even off all colorless lands.
With 4 Glares it can be frustrating to not draw one, but with enough other cycling effects in the deck it's not terrible. But you're a fragile combo deck and shouldn't be playing it in a meta full of hate anyway.
For sideboarding the first two to go are the Edges, then usually a Bloom and a Sphere. Emrakul for Spellbomb if they are running GY hate or Leyline.
19 lands felt better than 17. Hitting your early drops to KCI on 3 or 4 is so important. Radiant Fountain is pretty sweet because it buys you a little time against aggro and if you have to discard Emrakul to hand size for whatever reason, you can just blow up their lands and gain 30 life before shipping the turn.
It's hard to understand why newest versions don't play Serum Visions. I was playing eggs befofe and after Sunrise ban, 1 mana cantrip which can see 3 card was always great. And I should play 1 Conjurer's Bauble to have ability to infinite loop with just Codex or Pyrite Spellbomb (in case 1 element would be exiled).
Grixis and BUG seem like really tough matchups. I've switched to silence from defense grid, but the hand rip is still annoying.
I still strongly advocate serum visions (and even sleight of hand, if you can fit it) because they really smooth things out I find. I'm also currently running 1 shredder, 1 bauble and 1 pyrite spellbomb, because you can win with any 2 of those 3 if one gets dealt with.
Recently I've been playing with noxious revival, card seems sweet but I'm just not sure there's room for it.
The Glare of Heresy that people are suggesting seems fairly odd against stony silence. While I think that bounce effects are good enough to get the job done while you are comboing off, if you really want spot exile/removal, use Erase. It costs 1 less, instant speed, and is not limited towards white (Although the main target is Stony Silence, hey you can get rid of a weird Manabarbs if you really want to.)
Also instead of a 1 mana cantrip such as Serum Visions how has Thoughtcast worked out for people? Currently replaced all Visions I had for Thoughtcast and just lets me draw so much more which in turn lets me combo more reliably and drop more eggs before another Faith's Reward or Open the Vaults
But I do think that bounce effects are much more useful on the turn you are comboing off and you can use Echoing Truth or Kiora's Dismissal.
Edit: Kiora's Following -> Kiora's Dismissal
I think the advantage is that it hits thalia and kataki (and gaddock teeg, if anybody plays that, I guess). That said, I'd still advocate echoing truth for its ability to hit other miscellaneous bull***** like witchbane orb (this actually came up in a tournament) or even clearing up a relic of progenitus so I didn't need to generate enough mana to cast a second faith's reward in response to the activation.
Took this deck to a tourney in our LGS and it was fine. I got lost in how to play around during a Hate Bears matchup. So other than that Glare of Heresy, how else can your SB interact with them?
You can't really, other than the pyrite spellbomb, which is why I favour the build with 4 visions and 4 sleights, as it lets you reliably find your sideboarded glares/truths. Hatebears is definitely one of our worse matchups though, along with grixis control.
Been running around with this. Very consistent and seems to get around most stuff. Do keep in mind my meta is fairly disruption light so the only thing to really worry about is mainboard relic of progenitus here and there.
