Traded away some of the deck to pay for car repairs last month (not something I'd normally do but I'd just bought the car so money was tight & my collection is essentially fluid capital) Now I've just got to pick up 3 thought-knots and 4 smashers to have the deck in paper again.
Let's see how we go. My initial instinct coming back after a break is to want to include chalice in the maindeck somehow. Fast decks can steal game 2s too easily so you want to try and steal game 1 from them and give your self a fighting chance in the sideboard games.
Problem is then, what do we do about expedition map? Do we splash a little green and run sylvan scrying? Hmmmmmmmmm.

Good question, I'm not sure I know the answer. First instinct is to no on the splash, but with a green splash I think Ancient Stirrings may be a better (more flexible) choice that Sylvan Scrying.
@jacememoryloss
The main engines are Mimic + Soulgorger for early kills and Deceiver of Form for mid-late game kills.
Thoughts?
Interesting list but with 9 non Eldrazi you are not fully benefitting from running those 4 Eldrazi Temples. And there are a lot of games where we rely on those Temples for advantage. Good luck.

i was thinking along the lines of wanting to stick chalice on 1 mana.
that's the problem at the moment, it clashes with expedition map.
i swear this deck has one of the most clashing selections of cards that you *really* want to run maindeck, it's absurd.

Yep, I'm not sure that green is the answer. I haven't been running Chalices but will be going +2 in my SB soon. Shutting down playing Map is a big problem, but it may just have to be done until we find something.

I prefer Chalice out of the side as I am running MD O-Stones to combat faster decks. Still tinkering with my SB plan for #GPINDY. Scapeshift and Ad Nauseam still are giving me fits. I think I have a better gameplan vs. Ad Nauseam, but Scapeshift I am unsure if I want to run a Sundering Titan in the SB or just lean on 3 Warping Wail's and 4 Ghost Quarter's.

Thanks for the input. Yes maximising Eldrazi Temple is a good idea. I've found the Thopter Assembly in the main deck to be too slow so I replaced it with another Reality Smasher. I hope that works out.
I still have two Thopter's in the sideboard for when I need more evasion. Except for Reality Smasher, Artisan of Kozilek there isn't a lot of evasion in this deck. Of the remaining non-Eldrazi the Ornithoper cost 0 while being good aggro blockers and food for the Soulgorgers. TheHangerback Walker are almost always cast for 2 colorless. Plus it is really satisfying having two Ornithopters and a Hangerback Walker suddenly turn into 3 Artisan of Kozilek's and smash for 30/anhiliator 6 thanks to Deceiver of Form.
That leaves the Soulgorgers for 3 and I like playing them because most Eldrazi deck do not use them and people don't expect Mimics on turn 2 or 3 to swing in for 8.
I am also trying out the Basilisk Collar mentioned in this thread. It seems like a good item to have especially since I swapped out the 4 Radiant Fountain for 3 Gemstone Caverns and Sanctum of Ugin to help search for Ulamog.
I'm going to straight up swap my expedition maps for chalices. Put the maps in the side.
Here's my reasoning (you'll like it):
- in Fast matchups where we really need to be winning game 1, chalice is the key "I win" card, and once we have the strong disruption it provides, *any* lands will get us there. We don't need to reliably get tron online.
Conversely, we already have such a strong midrange/grindy game with o-stone and fatties that we are generally favoured vs midrange decks. We can still have a decent chance against them game 1, but maximise our potential in games 2/3
My reasoning is that fast aggro or combo decks can steal games if they get the nut draw, midrange decks can't (not in the same way). If we lose game 1 against suicide zoo for example, odds are we lose the match, because they are likely to win one of the following 2 games as well. Against abzan/Jund/whatever, you're favoured to claw it back because they give you time and opportunity to "go bigger". You play against their weaknesses.
Make sense?

It's quite good against Jund (game 1) because of their playsets of bolt and discard. A topdecked chalice in the mid game can be used to shut off goyf, scooze, bob and grim flayer. They run abrupt decay but it's still OK. They really want to be casting decay on your creatures.
Obviously side them out for gane 2.

So.. went to GPIndy, finished 2-4. Didn't realize that by missing all the flooding on our way down from Michigan my deck would accommodate me by flooding out nearly every game all day, was not even funny, to the point when I lost my final match I was a little salty from flooding out for the 5 match of the day and did not agree with my opponent on the goodness of our match and he proceeded to call me an a**hole for it, hence him getting an Unsportsmanlike Conduct Minor. Only things of relevance to report is that Game 1 match 1 vs. Dredge I was almost able to deck my opponent with a solo Endbringer and that Burn really does not like Basilisk Collar. Good news is that I was able to score a full playset of Antiquities Urza's Lands in the arts I wanted.

I use to play bant eldrazi and people use to run mimics in the side to speed up and hopefully race combo decks, not sure if that's where we want to be but ive been using them so far. also i run a full playset of ghost quarters and combined with thought-knot gives some targets for surgical extraction to be of some use. I'm thinking about uping the pithing needle count or trying phyrexian revoker but with school coming up haven't had the time to playtest as much.
Thought-knot seer exiles so you cant use surgical extraction any targets - it does however take combocards.
I play a similar list (but without the chalice) - what do you put them on 2 and 3? against them. Doesnt seem to do much on 0 and 1 where they are good against other decks. Also not sure if i want to keep them in if i have any other card in my sideboard agaisnt them.
I only play 1 spellskite MB but it hasnt really helped much. Dont think 3 does much unless you get multiples out?
I dont run eldrazi mimic - but i kinda see how it could be useful as a SB card to add against combo without disruption. Not sure if i have the space in my SB for that, but i do dislike valakut variants - so i might dedicate some slots for it. What other matchups are they useful?
I play 4-of ghost quarters and 2 surgical SB too - havnt really found them to be that useful - it does break potential scapeshift wins if you draw surgical but usually you dont, and i dont really see myself mulling too one of them, or should I?. Also if i somehow manage to break their combo by saccing lands im too far behind and die to their Titans (primeval and inferno)
Gemstone caverns - i dont run, do they really help you? I usually lose game 1 and they should really accelerate you if you are on the play game 2 (which i also lose)
ahh yes my mistake haven't played to much, little rusty. as for the chalice they always come out if I'm not playing an aggro deck or the decks listed above like ad naseum, same with the spellskites.
the mimics are great for the non interactive decks since we can just go all out aggro and start hitting hard with mimic into reshaper/thought-knot/smasher. again bant lists started to veer away from that strategy so I don't know what other colorless tech we have for those decks.
I agree with the surgical extraction, in my limited testing I found it to be to reactional and a little slow but other than warping wail to counter sorceries I don't know what other tech we can use.
the gemstone caverns are just my flex land spot I have been using this as a gamble to pump out chalice or early creatures on the draw, nothing special.
I mainly playtest against my friends (naya burn, mardu burn, soul sisters, jund, affinity) so don't have much experience with combo except when I hit my lgs where a lot of people run it. would love some suggestions since id like to start taking this deck to more local tournaments.
Gemstone caverns - i dont run, do they really help you? I usually lose game 1 and they should really accelerate you if you are on the play game 2 (which i also lose)
They can. When used in conjunction with Simian Spirit Guide you can sometimes power out a Turn One Reality Smasher on the draw. I've actually pulled it off. Quite fun, a bit inconsistent.

Won another modern FNM (that would be my 4th in row) and I am now more than sure that Endbringer is the most important creature for us. This guy single-handedly wins games.
Also managed to beat burn for the first time I think. Feed the Clan after sideboarding was just too much.

i don't think i've lost many games to burn. Chalice and Thought-Knot are the big cards there. i haven't tried a green splash, although i get the distinct feeling that if we did have a green splash, we'd want ancient stirrings in the main (like no doubt, card is busted with the whole deck being colourless)

i don't think i've lost many games to burn. Chalice and Thought-Knot are the big cards there. i haven't tried a green splash, although i get the distinct feeling that if we did have a green splash, we'd want ancient stirrings in the main (like no doubt, card is busted with the whole deck being colourless)
