Hello. I have been lurking for a while since I discovered that others besides me have been playing this deck.
I will comment on this as I have been testing it quite a bit. Painful Truth has been an allstar for me as a 1-of.
I do not play any Lilianas as i dont feel she really fits this deck. Our creatures do not have enough staying power (besides ofc the delvers) to run an opp down after his hand is emptied through discard as even a top decked electrolyze wrecks us. So I have cut her entirely and play full sets of snapcasters and abbots still paired with 4 total delvers.
Rise//fall is such an amazing card paired with turn 1 disruption and the painful truths is actually good on turn 3 before snap or abbot really shines.
I am still awaiting my playset of jaces as I want to maindeck 3 to test them out.
I play 3 fastlands to minimize some damage and the games I get these are much faster (or painless) than the ones with only shocks.
Can anyone explain to me why Painful Truths is better than Read the Bones? I feel like the ability to Scry 2 is far more useful that being able to draw an extra card most of the time. Is the chance to draw an extra card really better than guaranteed Scry 2?
The list only has the 20 lands but it has been very good to me. More than 5 lands over an entire game often means im losing. Abbot and cantrips are amazing in finding lands when needed and my curve is LOW.
Sideboard is just what my local meta demands.
I will swap the YP, 1x thought scour and 1x thoughtseize for 3x jace, whenever i get hold of them.

I want both lands and spells. My list runs only 20 lands so getting 2 spells and a land is for me far better than another peek but 1 less card.
Might be different for other versions but i run heavily on card velocity and 1 more card for an abbot is great when racing
I'm testing Abbot Jund and humbly request advice from you expert Abbotees. What are your opinions on the maximum number of mainboard 3CMC spells to play with a full set of Abbot? I'm not sure how badly I want/need to warp my mainboard around Abbot, but on the other hand I don't want Abbot to whiff as a 4-drop too often. Liliana and K's Command are too good cards to give up in significant numbers, and in Jund I have Maelstrom Pulse to shave too. Anyone got a magic number to share?
Edit: To elaborate, I'm torn between these two options:
4 Abbot, 3 Liliana, 1 K's Command, 0 Pulse
3 Abbot, 3 Liliana, 2 K's Command, 0 Pulse
...but both options might be way off and I might have to run something else entirely.
I have 2 Lilis and 2 Kcommands and that's about as much as I want with 3x Abbot. Any more and I think it just pushes Abbot more towards a T5 play rather than a T4 play. If I was maindecking 3x Lili, plus Kcommand, I might go down to 2 Abbots (or just accept that it'll whiff 10%+ of the time).
Same here. I am going to test abbot as a 2-of in Jund and stay with 3x Liliana and 2x Maelstrom Pulse and 2x k.command as I really dont want to give up too much core for building around Abbot.

I keep going back and forth. I figure that you need a high number of Abbots to make it worthwhile to lower the curve and warp the deck around it. If I am to run as little as 2x, it might not be worth cutting back on all the juicy 3CMC cards for just a two-of. On the other hand, whiffing with Abbot is equally bad no matter how many you play, so adding a low number of Abbots with a lot of three drops in the deck might not be a good option either. It drives me crazy. I think I'm leaning towards 4x Abbot 3x LotV 1x Command and just accepting that I'll be running a high number of turn 4 plays.
Edit: Edited out stuff not relevant to this deck, like the mentioning of Huntmaster and Olivia, so that nobody needs to be a prick about it.
Not to be a prick but Jund discussion is not relevant in this thread.
The 3-drop vs Abbot discussion applies here too, though.
Yes of course, but not when huntmaster/olivia are involved in the discussion Jund uses Abbot quite differently I think from how we want to use it because we have some more potential to play EoT or at the opponents combat phase if needed.

My understanding this far of Abbot and potetial decks for him, be it blue Jund og regular, that you need either go low curve and have good spells and creatures with worse staying power OR go more mana heavy, have a bigger curve, better creatures and more impactful spells on their own and not go as much for card velocity. Doing that Abbot itself plays a smaller role as a beater and more of a value creature that draws a card. Here Bob might be better actually.
I am not saying I have the right way to play Abbot or the Blue Jund deck at all, but this is what my testing so far have shown.
For now I haven't had any problems with Abbot and if I do, it hasn't crippled my strategy when playing it either. I run 2x KCommand 1x Liliana and 1x Electrolyze and very rarely do I end up hitting one of those cards. I've even been mainboarding 1x Slagstorm with a fair amount of success, still running Abbot. Admittedly I've considered cutting it just to replace it with 3x Remand but that's just because I'm a bit of a wienie about Remand, and this deck can afford to bounce the spell into their hand because there's a fair amount of discard and our biggest threats are big guys that would be harder to pay for twice than to just pay 3 extra mana for to get through a Mana Leak.
The Abbot discussion is getting a bit cyclical, and I think it's fair to just say it's up to the way you want to build this deck and how O-K you are with potentially exiling a KCommand or a Liliana. Yeah, it's painful, but it's rare when you build around it. On the other hand, if you're not comfortable with a deck that tops out at 3, don't run Abbot and you'll still be in the clear.
Whether or not this is a Jund deck is sort of irrelevant to the Abbot discussion in general. This isn't a "jund thread," and Abbot isn't strictly a "jund card."
Look at the card. Now back to Jace. Now back to that card, now back to Jace! Sadly, it isn't Jace, but if it stopped being a junk rare and became relevant, it could act like it's Jace. Crack some Worldwake. What do you have? You have a Jace, the card you wish this card could be like. Look again. THE CARD IS NOW A $75 BILL. Anything possible when you play Magic with Jace and not junk rares. This is probably spam.
I think this is a sweet list. 2 things I would change: Damnation over EE and a Dimir Charm over one of the Thought Scours. Also possibly I would go down to 2 counters to add 1 more removal but not sure if this is corrcet

Yeah it's pretty sweet, the EE is weird though, and I wouldn't recommend GFTT, since the matchups it's useless in are already bad matchups for us G1. I've been trying to make up my mind on whether to play Murderous Cut or Dismember in that slot (leaning more towards dismember at this point).

I like playing 1 GftT, 1/2 Terminate and 1 Dismember

Oh I do not Run delver of secrets, I meant 4 delve creatures.
Disruption and a turn 3 or 4 fish is most of the time back breaking for an opponent.
As I said my list is still lacking the Jaces as I am waiting for them to arrive through mail, but I am confident that this is the deck for him
My list:
4x snapcaster mage
4x abbot of keral keep
2x tasigur
2x gurmag angler
1x young pyromancer
4x serum visions
4x thought scour
4x bolt
4x terminate
3x rise//fall
3x thoughtseize
3x inquisition
1x k.command
1x painful truths
4x polluted delta
4x scalding tarn
2x blood crypt
1x steam vents
1x watery grave
2x swamp
1x island
1x mountain
1x creeping tar pit
2x blackcleave cliffs
1x darkslick shores

I was interested in running a Tribute to Hunger MB, and after watching his stream I'm pretty sure I'll be testing it out at FNM tonight.
