Well one of my pet decks from awhile back was various smallpox variants, featuring Liliana of the Veil and Ensnaring Bridge. And i picked up a set of chalices a long time ago for about $4 apiece. Still Missing Opal and Damnation, but in bridge decks i've usually been able to get by using Mutilate. I think the biggest expenditure for me might be mana base actually.... i have a lot in black and green, but considerably less so in blue.
Is ensnaring bridge fast enough? The drop 2 mimics turn one, which turn into 3/2s next turn, which turn into 5/5's next turn. If you have bridge, and if you can cast enough spells you can slow them down. I think something like echoing decay might be potent against their mimics.
Play your own Simian Spirit Guides! Along opal and cheap artifacts à la Bauble, Chalice, EE and Citadel, turn 2 Bridge definitely happens. Turn it on faster by running Dismember (CMC 1) ... And the apes, which will get you down a card. Thirst and Tezz [/e: and Sea Gate Wreckage, dis good!] allow card advantage to be surgically brought back up once you've stabilized. Faster Damnations / Tezz for card advantage sounds good too. Ok, I'm putting it together.
So, I've been building/sculpting my own version of UB Tezzeret for the last couple weeks now. And through some lengthy play-testing this is what I've come up with:
So here's a general question: why can't control decks win in modern?
It's because they lack multiple win-cons, which this deck has.
This version allows the pilot to attack aggressively with 5/5s, sit back under the bridge and wait for Tezz to Ult, or ping the opponent for a couple each turn with The Rack via Liliana and discard.
In the end, though, this deck seems to be incredibly versatile with each card serving multiple purposes depending upon the board state.
As for the side board, I still haven't quite nailed it down but it's a combination of counterspells and removal.
I'd love to hear some feedback for you guys. Thanks!
Feels slow with no mana rocks. Also the artifact count is really low with makes tezzerator not great. I see where your ideas are headed. It I'm. Not sure this deck will pan our. It just feels really slow to me, but I obviously haven't tested it. This is just at a glance.

tried something like this once with mixed results, but this is along the lines of what i want to try out again. Liliana + Bridge + Rack is a very formidable problem... and a slow painful death for opponents. i swear with this sort of win-con you win more games simply by frustrating your opponent and causing them to make mistakes
Also, relying on Bridge when sometime you end up stuck with a Mana Leak in hand is not optimal deckbuilding.
We've played with 1-2x Leak along a Bridge plan and sometimes only, would it turn out awkward, but the full playset? And when I say awkward, it's Bridge-not-doing-its-job-so-you-die awkward. I think you can find better than that in these slots. What about Mind Wrench as a couple-of? Or some meta-call cards?
@Raystack is the developper that went the farthest in TezzeRack. He should chime-in.
Don't get me wrong, Mana Leak is a VERY POWERFUL CARD, but it's better in a blue-er shell of Tezz. Along Thirst for Knowledge (instant-speed action) and such.

Please post your deck. I've been trying to tweak my Tezz but had terrible luck this past Monday at my lgs.
Had to play against tron twice and got wrecked
I haven't found The Rack to be effective in this archetype: Tezzeret Control. I've been playing that card since Antiquities, and it's often misunderstood. The Rack Decks are, in my opinion, Burn decks....not control decks. Racks are the sharpened sticks at the bottom of the pit, and the discard spells are the 'control'. But, how much control is there really when you are doing sorcery-speed, non-board affecting spells. That's v. shorthand for a different discussion for another time.
First, the win conditions: 5/5s and 6/6s with the outside chance of a Tezz Ultimate for wave motion gun slap to the face. As folks know, protecting a planeswalker with minimal removal or blocking creatures is hard. I'm not holding my 5/5s back, typically, so I essentially get a 1-shot ensoul artifact out of him and a 1 creature fog attack sequence at him...and, a fallen Agent of Bolas.
I originally toyed with the idea of running 2 damnation in the main, but they don't offer any forward progress, so that's why I turned to 2 Wurmcoil Engines: attack/block/lifegain/difficult to remove....pretty much the LeeLoo of Artifact Creatures.
Second, the Acceleration: I added Simian Spirit Guide. I added a Pentad Prism. I swapped the count on the everflowing chalice and astral cornucopia -- this seemed to make the most sense. It's not all that hard to start a chalice off at 1 or 2. It is pretty hard to start a cornucopia off at 1 and damned near impossible to do it at 2. Since the deck is not colored mana hungry (most spells cost a single color of mana), then everflowing seems like a wise choice. As for pentad prism, I have had luck with this before as well. The ideal is to monkey one out on turn one, and start the 2nd turn with 4 mana which - in Tezz Magic Tomorrowland - can produce a T2 Tezz and an attacking Prism with no counters on it. The other consideration on Prism is that it offers a target for coretapper.
Third, the Undoing of Days & Tomorrowland: This deck is a Time Machine. It can send your opponent back to turn 1 (chutes) or it can put you into tomorrow (ladders). An early Day's Undoing is sublime, and not uncommon. You need to be very careful with how you play this card. It's either T1 or T2 or it's T5+. If this deck gets humming, it's entirely probable to, aside from the obvious EoT Overload Cyclonic Rift into a Day's Undoing on my turn, you can boldly play Day's Undoing when seemingly all is lost and hope to draw into a Rift with 7 mana on the board. Like Joker said, the synergies on this deck are straight up silly goose.
Random Musings:
Chalice of the Void - I never want to see this card on '0' or '2'. I can't shut down my cyclonic rift or ensoul artifact. The ideal spot for this is 1. And, game 1...it's possible that a chalice on 1 is useless. Dropping it immediately for metalcraft doesn't work, since I run a lot of 0 cost spells. So, I'm down to 1 in the maindeck.
Sideboard - There is a lot that can be done here. For now, I've designed it against aggro-infect-boggle, but I want to get some more answers to eldrazi. Do you know it's feasible to play, Ugin, The Spirit Dragon. Yeah...Ugin. I wouldn't, but the mana generation of this deck can have your head spinning.
How about playing dark steel I got and stuffy doll? These seem like they would be pretty strong additions to the deck. 4 talismans and 3-4 ingots could ramp quickly and provide great tezzeret targets.
Looks like Hoogland was just trying some stuff out. He's got a lot of cute cards as one off's -it's a total test list to see what he likes and how it wheels before he starts fine tuning I imagine.
edit: I've played cyclonic rift a lot and it is a GREAT sideboard card versus other long control matchups. -It can take out Lantern's triple bridge or UWR's angel/leylines/stony silence etc. Great card when you've both been building up a bit.
I found some time to elaborate on the Astral CornucopiaTezzeret, Agent of Bolas Deck 2 posts above.
I've dubbed it Chutes and Ladders Tezz since the Day's Undoings will ladder you up the board and the Cyclonic Rifts on overload will slide an opponent back to the beginning.
@Tdog, thanks for the thought on Stuffy Doll. I don't have a lot of experience with this guy. If I was looking at adding another 5-CMC artifact (why not?), then I would probably consider a Batterskull first. I think the Doll is best with decks that run sweeper damage, pyroclasm - anger of the gods - fall of the titans, to maximize his ability.
@Painseer - I agree on the roughshod construction of the Tezz deck. He's practicing. I am not going to tear it apart, but simply note that pros don't....hmmmm. Yeah, leave it at that. I'm just glad he shared.
I have been pondering for a while about joker's Coretapper tech and it encouraged me into trying various ideas. Here are some of my thoughts:
1. Death Cloud + Mind Stone has been ridiculously good as an early or late board wipe with heavy integrated hand disruption and mana denial(land sac). Since the deck uses so many mana rocks loosing lands does not hurt us as much. Death Cloud encourages playing as many mana rocks as we want or need. Do not confuse this card as Smallpox, it this build it's even better. It also opens the possibility of playing remand as it synergies well with Death Cloud.
2. I am not sold yet on Day's Undoing as I much prefer Thirst for Knowledge in this kind of deck, and day's undoing it is especially a non-bo with Death Cloud. I can very much see it's appeal as it synergises with our explosive speed, but it also makes aggro opponents, that much more deadly. Can we outrun affinity?
3. I do not currently have the time to post my version of the deck and will do so later on but, I have currently 39 0cc (including lands) cards in my deck and I searched for ways to abuse this feat in a similar way to Day's Undoing until I stumbled upon Ad Nauseam ! I had butterflies in my stomach when I saw the card, and I had to double check that artifacts such as Everflowing Chalice and Astral Cornucopia were considered as 0cc. So here's the thing, with our number or 0cc artifacts Ad Nauseam becomes relatively painless, all that is left is to draw 3/4 of our deck, play a bunch of free artifacts and Tezzeret away at your opponent.
4. I have a bittersweat relationship with Ensoul Artifact, it is so agressively strong it is most often outraging but at the same time, other than adding pressure, it does not "add" to the Coretapper plan. I don't know how to express myself on this one but it almost feels like dead weight sometimes. Thoughts?
5. I also agree with @Raystack on switching the numbers of Everflowing Chalices and Astral Cornucopia, I only find myself sometimes really wanting the :/
6. If you guys have any trouble against Eldrazi, I have a suggestion: Painter's Servant is quite an interesting tech against the eldrazi as it makes Eldrazi Temple not able to tap for 2, it disables Eye of Ugin (it says COLORLESS eldrazi ) and it makes devoid spells colorful again if that even comes to be a problem.. :3 bonus it's an artifact!
Also thanks for the feedback guys, it makes me want to break Tezzeret even more, all hail artifacts! If Ad Nauseam fails my expectations I will definitely try some Simian Spirit Guide, so often I find myself have explosive starts but end up having to delay it all to turn two. Mox Opal + Citadel is the dream.
Finally I will have to do some extended testings between the more traditional Tezzeret builds and the Coretapper tech to compare their potentials and viability. Will edit soon with deck list!
Edit #1: @streetMage I do not think Mindless Automaton synergies with charge counters, if it does it is definitely interesting albeit a little costly. Also just realised that Ad Nauseam let's us play pacts in our decks to assure imminent victory. 1 of Reliquary Tower to keep hand once 90% of the deck is in our hand? so many ideas...
@DuskHorizons : living to cast Ad Nauseam is the challenge, i think. But then, still it's a «fair» Ad Nauseam you're casting. Because the dedicated Ad Nauseam deck will use the card to win on the spot with Lightning Storm. So, why go fair when you can go unfair? Throw a couple of Time Sieve in there, and win on the spot you too, off Tezz. No? Ah, but don't forget a couple Angel's grace. But then, isn't the Ad Nauseam reg deck just better, more streamlined?
All questions that need to be asked!

All good questions. The question of Ensoul Artifact....if you're not running it, how are you winning? My version is 5/5 and 6/6 Beefcakes, and it can break out fast.
Can combo, like time sieve and ad nauseam, work as well? Sure. Lots to think about. Just a question of how much can smushed together to win? Shoosh, I've never even seen Thopter Assembly and I love the write-up of DuskHorizons.....Keep it going, Artificers! Let's get some more deck ideas up on the board to see what can go together. The card I've been toying with a bit more is Serum Visions - cut down on the 4-ofs and streamline my draws more. I may eventually drop Day's Undoing...someday...maybe drop 1 for now as well as a tezz aob for 2 serum visions??

I think the idea would be more it is a utility card, for the Ad Nauseam deck you need to draw the card or you lose, here it would just be another powerful spell.
Not saying it is right or good (despite being cool and interesting), but there is a difference.

@radouf: am i correct in thinking Angel's Grace would NOT save you on the potential life loss from ad nauseum since it causes you to lose life, not take damage?
@radouf like SirPsychoMantis said, I don't need Ad Nauseam to be anything more than a fair card, and to compare it to the combo deck is a mistake because it has a different role in this shell than theirs. They need to set up multiple cards such as Angel's Grace and Phyrexian Unlife and a Lotus Bloom turn 1 to hope to combo off on turn 4 or 5 which makes them fragile and extremely vulnerable to hate. If they get their win cons extracted, discarded, countered or milled it's over for them and they have only so many, hell some lists only play 1 lightning storm and that's all.
My goal is not to deck myself out and drop to 0 life in a desperate attempt to combo off, I mean sure I can combo off, but unlike Ad Nauseam Combo, I can choose not to, gather only a few cards and be content with it, no strings attached. Since I have around 40 cards with no converted mana cost it becomes an extremely powerful utility card that plays right in the Coretapper + Astral Cornucopia + Everflowing Chalice + Mox Opal + Darksteel Citadel shell which is why I'm even giving the card the time of the day, and I realized it may give the build more flexibility by having the ability of playing Pact of Negation and Slaughter Pact since they have a converted mana cost of 0 and are relatively easy to pay with the help of our numerous mana rocks. I could never draw the card in a game and be fine nonetheless.
@Raystack interestingly enough Time Sieve can also simply set you up for a tezzeret ultimate by gaining an extra turn and can be used out of the combo as a way to finish an opponent off with a 5/5 or as an alarm button, also Thopter Assembly is not completely useless on it's own. Also in my train of thought I figured that not only Ensoul Artifact is good at the beggining of the game but with the combo you can set up multiple artifacts into a 5/5 oil fest as another way to "combo" down our opponent. And you are right about their explosiveness, they're like our lil mech goyfs.
Also small note Golem's Heart sounds like a really good sideboard card against burn and affinity (lol). And if you are scarred of Ad Nauseam add a Venser's Journal in your deck . On a more serious note, Tolaria West seems like a good utility land for searching a pact or getting a much needed chalice of the void.

I may eventually drop Day's Undoing...someday...maybe drop 1 for now as well as a tezz aob for 2 serum visions??
Not that I'm actually considering it, but does coretapper work hangarback walker?
I think the idea would be more it is a utility card, for the Ad Nauseam deck you need to draw the card or you lose, here it would just be another powerful spell.
Not saying it is right or good (despite being cool and interesting), but there is a difference.
