If budget is a factor then you should definitely go for the traditional stompy. You cannot play collected stompany without 4x Collected Company and a playset of it is 80 dollars nowadays. And for the Noble Hierarchs, on turn 2, it can attack alone with a 1/2 body (actually, you would never be in need of an attack with the hierarch on turn 2 with all these haste creatures.) or might let your Strangleroot Geist survive against a 1/1 blocker, so you can save the undying for later, but the most relevant times of the exalted buff is when the opponent has an Ensnaring Bridge and you have a Birds of Paradise. Other than those, Llanowar Elves do the same thing.
Hey all, don't play a ton of Stompy but built it on a whim a while ago. Looking to tune it up before I start foiling it out so any critique would be appreciated
The mainboard is pretty stock, dunno if lists have evolved past that so if they have let me know, mainly worried about the side because not sure what to do exactly .-.

Been tinkering with this deck since eldrazi has become so large. It seems to me the best way for this deck to combat the menace would be to stay fast and stay linear. Trying to have a stronger late-game presence with CoCo doesn't seem viable when your opponent could be casting Thought-Knot Seer's and Smashing Reality. Also the Talara's Battalion list seems interesting since Bolt isn't very common at the moment. I think it's important to stress though that when bolt becomes popular removal again, the card is bleh. It's a lot of work for a card that dies to most removal in modern. If it was a 4/4, go nuts! I would probably be on that list myself.
It's that terrible matchup it seems to me? I always lose, their creatures just become bigger fast enough, Spreading Seas really screws me up on playing my creatures.
Hey guys, im a casual magic player that is trying to get into tournaments. I decided to go with stompy, as its a cheap deck from a non rotating format.
Right now I have my maindeck complete (which is quite standard)
I want to build my sideboard, but im on a very tight budget and wanted to know what would you recommend as a standard sideboard (I know this depends on my local meta, but as of now, I dont even know where im going to play haha).
Ive been thinking in the following cards: Deglamer, Feed the Clan, Gut Shot, Ground Seal (as a budget replacement for relic of progenitus) and Natural State.
Also, which ratio of these cards would you run? And which of the more expensive cards (like choke and torpor orb) do you think are a must for the deck?
@StompBee Of course exalted is not the most relevant thing about Noble Hierarchs in the stompany but I wanted to point out where the lady would be preferred against Birds of Paradise. And of course attacking into a blocker with a 3/2 exalted Strangleroot Geist is not what makes Noble Hierarch important, it's just I didn't want to examine it case by case, which you have already done perfectly with your post that shows lots of ways to get turn 3-4 kills. It was just the narrow case where having a turn 1 Noble Hierarch would be better than having a Llanowar Elves. (Which should be a part of a case study where you have a 1 land, 1 birds, 1 geist, 1 pump and 4 baloths, which you should mulligan at the first place, so you have to play your geist and attack into a 1 power creature) Basically, Collected Stompany is a super agressive deck where you would want to spend all the mana avaliable to you every turn and kill your opponent as soon as possible, it just doesn't make sense to save Aspect of Hydra defensively, on the other hand you can do it with the traditional stompy. The downside of Collected Stompany is the after-early game, you can draw a dork which is a lot worse than drawing an E1, (Again a case study, a bird, which is a dork, can fly over blockers but I won't get into that) but your goal is to kill the opponent before the game goes into "midrange".
If you ask me, I love the traditional stompy, because it's efficient and budget friendly, especially nowadays that Noble Hierarch has gone up by $10. On the other hand, if I could afford the Collected Stompany list, I would've played it. It comes down to the point of your play style, your budget and your local metagame. Just one suggestion: if you like the goblins deck and somehow looking to play something similar in speed fragility (I'm saying that based on my goblins experience of ~40 matches, which I know is very few) in mono green, or want to have a chance to be faster than the Eldrazi overlords, go for Collected Stompany, if not, go for the traditional stompy. (I'd go for the traditional one just to see the despair on storm players' faces when I leave at least one mana up to protect my Dryad Militant while attacking for just 2 every turn.)
A very good read from Saffron Olive on http://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/the-modern-dilemma about modern being a (non-)rotating format. However, for our deck, there is no risk of getting a ban, so we can see it as a non-rotating format.
If you don't know your meta, first thing I'd suggest is to include Dungrove Elders as a 1 or 2 of, in place of 1 Kalonian Tusker and 1 Prey Upon. And for the remaining prey upons, I'd suggest 2x Dismembers, as they can answer more threats being instant and not having a creature requirement. For the sideboard, I'd suggest 2x Deglamer, 2xGut Shot and 2xFeed the Clan, as they're really good anwers to Wurmcoil Engine, mana dorks and most 1 thoughness problematic creatures (Dark Confidant, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben), and burn, respectively. I'd say a 2xNatural State is also a must but others might object against such a definite suggestion. I'd also include 2xPithing Needle as it is an answer to a large number of problematic cards, and a 1xRelic of Progenitus, just because graveyard hate might be really relevant (especially against Living End). I run 2xAct of Aggression, 1xThrun, the Last Troll and 1xBack to Nature for the remaining slots, and I am quite happy about how they perform, maybe except Thrun, which I plan to change with Choke.
I just went 2-0 in an online 2-man against one of the new eldrazi meta decks.
I was using my 19 land stompy list running 4 young wolf and 4 treetop. My opponent even started a chat with me, asking how my deck usually does against Eldrazi. I told him it was my first time playing against it (have avoided online lately because I figured my deck would get crushed by them). I asked him why he was playing UW Eldrazi; he said its the newest tech for the mirror match; white gives you access to path and worship, with stony silence and disenchant for the affinity matchup.
Anyways, I recorded it live. I'll post it up in a bit. I'm not kidding when I say this, this Eldrazi deck got straight STOMPED! (:

hello this is my list I have recently given up on this deck for mono red kiln fiend but now I'm trying to play stompy again, I could spend 10-20 $ extra for upgrades help is needed

4x Avatar of the Resolute
4x Dryad Militant
4x Experiment One
4x Dungrove Elder
3x Leatherback Baloth
2x Scavenging Ooze
4x Strangleroot Geist
Land (21)

4 Rancor
4 Aspect of Hydra
4 Vines of Vastwood (people say I should cut this now that twin was gone )
1 Dismember
4 Vines of Vastwood (people say I should cut this now that twin was gone )
Don't cut the Vines, way to too useful. It never feels like a dead draw.
Use it early to save one of your own
Use it mid game to mess with their flickerwisp, restoration angel, or Blighted Agent
Use it late to pump out the last bit of damage you need on that rancored out dryad militant or Avatar
It's also good against Infect / aggro to stifle a Become Immense.

Guys ive been thinking about the sideboard suggestions you gave me (list on page 158) and came up with this, do you think its ok? I left 2 free slots to add whatever cards I need for the local meta (like putting 1 or 2 feed the clan if its filled with monored, etc.). I also decided to change prey upon with dismember.
I agree -- the more I see this card, the more I like it. I will be testing this against burn. Especially decks with removal + burn (like Searing Blood and whatnot) it seems like it's nice to be able to return cards from the graveyard and keep up the pressure.

gut shot is great against eldrazi mimic and infect right now. Siding against eldrazi people have been flirting with fog effects, death touch like ambush viper and blanking their eye of ugin or eldrazi temple with lush growth.

For the SB you need to consider the usual suspects: Burn = feed the clan or pulse of murasa, Tron = deglamer their wurmcoil engine or turn their lands off w/ lush growth if you're feeling cheeky, and Affinity = natural state.
In general:
dismember takes down thought-knot seer, siege rhino, tasigur, the golden fang, and reality smasher to name a few. Or dismember is good when you just really need to kill that birds of paradise and you don't have a prey upon...
gut shot deals with dark confidant, eldrazi mimic, and glistener elf (not to mention the play set of vines of vastwood are good against pumped up glistener elfs).
pithing needle is good against griselbrand, ulamog, the ceaseless hunger, and just any planes walker in general but liliana of the veil and karn liberated give me the most trouble.
relic of progenitus makes tarmogoyfs little, stops Living End decks dead, and as well as blanks snapcaster mage if you ever find yourself facing Grixis Control.
Lastly I run at least 1x hunt the hunter (because Elves are popular where I play) to deal with mana dorks and the occasional siege rhino or tarmogoyf if I use my leatherback baloth to fight it.
