Anyone been testing with him? At first I did not like him but having been on the wrong side a couple times I decided to try him out. Paired w/ Elspeth he can be a house.
Since I wanted to try out a Cruel build I felt like he might actually be useful since I can get him back with Cruel if he happens to die...not taxing on the mana or manabase. 3 is alot easier to cast then say 6 for wurmcoil.
everything else are instants that interact with Mage.
Speaking of a mage...fulminator mage is a bi**h. How are yall dealing with her? Do I have to land an early extripate?
If living end gets that engine going at all its game.
Another interesting tidbit I faced the other day was

Ghiest is pretty bad by itself. Control does sting together a ton of creatures/planeswalkers that synergize together. It wants a win con that wins soon and efficiently as possible, or one that puts you in a position to where no matter what your opponent plays you can't lose.

Since nobody has suggested what land Preacher and DaGarver are talking about, I'm gonna guess that they're talking about the storage lands. Dreadship Reef particularly absolutely smooths the casting for our win-con and allows you to create enough mana to win the counter war.

In love with Black since I first began playing Avatar of Woe.
In love with Blue since Cryptic Command was printed.
yeah but that is wayyy to slow...adding 2 land cards to an already unstable mana base...plus Boseiju does nothing with Cruel since it doesn't produce color.
Took out Elspeth and Cliques as ultimately I felt they were takin up 2 much room....Wanted to maximize Tiago's value. Swords do that as well. Have really been liking Geist so far.
As an Elves player, I can tell you the things I hate to see on the other side: Firespout/Clasm/etc, PtE (which is needed if you're playing against the combo variant since T2/T3/T4 are all valid combo turns for Elves), and Rule of Law/Canonist for my combo deck version.
I wouldn't run tribal flames mostly because this is a control deck and the mana base you need to make that work is silly. Maybe try using snapcaster with something like bituminous blast. I'm still trying to find a way to break snappy and I can't really find it. We need a way to make snappy provide a +2 card advantage that is cheap, reliable, and universal. Using modal cards increases his versatility, but modal cards are typically over-expensive for what they do.

your not playing any mass removal. Of course you aren't going to beat elves. Also swords = bad in control fyi.

Just looking for some critiques, I really like this deck and would like to keep refining it. Is it worth keeping only two Snapcaster's main deck? or should I add more/cut them? My SB especially could use some work.

Swords are pretty great in some control lists if it's built so that it can control whilst killing face with a guy with a sword. Stone Blade is a major deck in Legacy, and it is certainly control. Just saying

legacy is a different beast. 5cc is also not a tempo deck like stoneblade is. I'm not going to get into semantics, but "control" in legacy is midrange tempo.

Ive been trying this list and i like it. However i think we should make some changes. I don't like Ravenous Trap. For control i feel the only way we are losing is to fall behind in mana. So im trying a Dreadship Reef in place of it.
In the maindeck i don't really like Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Baneslayer Angel isn't really that great either but at least if you untap with it against any deck you win (not happening). By the time you have 6 mana against zoo you either die to burn/overwhelming board advantage that roadblocks can't fix or you are already in a winning position. At that point of the game i'd rather see almost any other spell than Sphinx. Against control it's just unreasonable to tap out for 6 mana and all this card does in the early game is clog your hand and unlike Cruel Ultimatum doesn't win the game on the spot if it resolves.
I am considering to play some number of Calcite Snapper. The UU casting cost can be rough but not unsourmontable but it comes down early enough to matter against zoo while being cheap and hard to remove for control decks.
I loved the Lightning Helixes and im considering a fourth maindeck.
Also while it's nice to 'mise' some games with maindeck extirpate, too much of the time it's just a blank and you can't afford to draw blanks in this format if you play TWENTY SIX lands and several 5+ sorcery speed spells.
yeah, that above deck is awesome. i'm a big fan of it; i hope it gets to see more attention. As I'm putting together my own build of it, I want to find a replacement to Baneslayer Angel; I just feel it's too fragile. I like all the built-in life-gain with the ultimatum and lightning helix playing against a field of aggro and zoo.
What are people's thoughts on the 4 planeswalkers here?
I am also curious to know how that deck measures up against splinter-twin. 3 rune snags, 3 cryptics, 3 paths, and 2 terminates?

How do we win the control mirror? Honestly I think teachings would be a nearly impossible match up.
